That's a really good point and great idea. I'm just so used to my kawis which have to be installed from the inside , so I always do them early. Thanks for the tip!
that's the difference between pros and amateurs. also there's alot better ways to install a seal than at 5:10 or so. your engine is always treated better than this at our shop guaranteed.
A decently experienced mechanic with no distractions could do this in a half day. If you're a normal guy that doesn't do it often taking your time, set aside a weekend for good measure.
Hi I’m rebuilding a yz250, I replaced the bearings along with the bearing cap/seals and the crank as well. When I went to put the casing back together, it didn’t want to fully seet down. I ended up getting it about a quarter inch away from being fully flush but it won’t go the rest of the way down. When i tried putting a few screws in the block and lightly torquing them down to see if it would help, it caused the crank to freeze up and also made no difference in the gap in the block. Any ideas?
The cases should not be bolted to close, that will cause tension in the crankcase and everything will freeze up, make sure the cases fully seat before torque is applied by bolts
Thanks for the info this is my first time attepting this lol im guessing you had the bearings in the freezer or something? And was the crank frozen too?
I like one minute with regular propane. MAP is nice, but most only have a propane set up. You want to get the area about 250-300 F. Lick your finger and quickly touch the area. When it sizzles you're probably good.
wow a claw hammer?! and you junked the seal out by prying it up with a screw driver after you drove it in crooked!!!!!!!!!! I guess your shop shoes tell the story..........
Agreed, if the tapping is on the outer race or both, its usually okay. Additionally, I'm not hitting that hard but the audio from the video makes it seem that way. This bike still runs.
Due to risk of damage, myself wouldn't install the crank seals until the crank was pressed in and the cases mated.

@@mxgryan hey I got a question how do I remove the seals on my kx85 crank with the bearings in? Do I tap it all out from the outside in?

Hi mate, rock on indeed, and I love the replies. 😂 Had a right chuckle keep it up lad!
Bikes still running lol
@@mxgryan that's actually great to hear 😂💯
How long do you recommend freezing the bearings for and do you freeze the crank ??
Hammering the crank into its bearings will ruin the cranks true!!
Thanks for watching Andy!
I'm sure a little tap with a nylon hammer will do no harm....
Did you freeze the Crank?

Beating on that crank isn't doing you any favors. You can knock one out of true in two ways.

About how long did the whole process take? Like taking everything off and back together

The MX Guru ok I’m building an 85
Got another question the bearing oil seal do you pack any kind of grease in them?
I never have, no. I do lightly coal the seal on the inside and outside edges before install, but thats been it.

When you dropped crankshaft into the right main crank bearing was there a little side to side place when fully seated ??
Was there a little bit of side to side play when you filled seated that crank into that bearing?
Not that I remember...but this has been years lol
Whats the red stuff you were putting on the bearings and when putting in the seals?
Maxima assembly lube!

Are you freezing the bearings and walking the casing?
I have no idea what walking is
Was that a claw or a rip hammer?
Doesnt matter, they both do the job fantastically!
About how long do you heat up the case when you put the bearings in?
Maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute it about all you need with a map gas torch. If not, keep heating!

How do you take the bearings out?
Heat and gently tap, or heat and gently press
Sorry to say but your being pretty harsh on fitting the bearings !how long you Been building engines for?
This one is still running great to this day, thanks for asking Keith!
Takes alot more than that to hurt a bearing. As long as youbdont bash the living shit out of the boss part "the middle" its fine.
