steve, just watching you eat it, fulfills me. it's almost like I can taste how good it is. thx for the awesome catch and cook, and eat videos. keep up the good work. And be safe.
Hey Steve great video as usual. You who have access to fresh coconut should soak the fish in some warm coconut water for just a bit before using it in the spring roll. It gives it this slightly sweet flavor that really works well with the fresh veggies in the spring roll. Tight lines!
Outstanding, Steve. I love that kind of food. I also like a dipping sauce made of fish sauce, light soy, sliced serranos, garlic and a little sugar. Your catch & cooks are getting pretty advanced.
Great video. Those spring rolls look awesome. I love sashimi and also Vietnamese food. The cero sashimi in the spring roll is a great idea and will have to try it. I've caught many ceros on my trips to the Keys, but never tried them raw. Definitely will try in the future. I'm new to your channel and am enjoying the videos.
Welcome to the channel Tim. Cero's are a great fish. Not a lot of people know about them as they are really only found in South Florida and the Keys (the Caribbean to). Right up there with Wahoo. Totally sashimi quality fish.
Aloha Steve, @ 4:03 you can see the long yellow egg sack. Have you tried eating egg sacks? They're good fried, and also simmered in a Nitsuke sauce combining shoyu, sugar, sake' and ginger. Great with hot steamed rice and ice cold beer. Mahalo nui for sharing your recipes, looks delicious. I wish we had mackerels here in Hawai'i but for some reason no more. I bet that Cero makes a killer cerviche.
You need to open up a food truck, featuring fresh catch and whatever you want to sell/make that day. I think you would be quite a big hit. And you can still do catch and cook and food truck lunch.
Man that was outstanding! Those spring rolls were really cool. Never had a spring roll even remotely close to that. I have got to give that a try. Too bad your feet are hidden by that table.
Man, you are a "bon vivant"!!!! Look at you at the table!!! (Wine is missing..)LOL I NEVEr ...heard about that rice paper rolls...I will give them a try!! I like the video!!
Don't get too much of that around here. Some blue crabs and shrimp but not as much as on the mainland as we don't have a lot of wetland style breeding area. At least in the lower Keys.
Steve, just go to Publix and special order Nori or what ever else you need that isn't sold normally. The store manager will know what to do in case the clerk's don't. dammit! now I'm hungry for Japanese food. Tight lines and keep'em coming!
Damn, should have called me up, could of sent ya some sea weed wraps from Tims. I even have 5 packs of the stuff in the pantry...Sandra eats them like chips. lol. Awesome cook and catch Chef Steve. ; )
King Mackerels are pretty much plain silver. Spanish and Cero have spots. Both have random spots, but Cero has a line of spots along the lateral line that are similar to the line on a Snook. It goes straight along the body one solid line.
This is the fish you cut trying to catch that Hammerhead huh? I see the chunk missing from the one side lol.... Also yet another fantastic video brother!
They are year round. For some reason, I have not been getting very many on the Atlantic side. The Gulf plenty. Lots have been on the flats as well. Just chum and if they don't show up in 15 minutes move to another spot.
Damn Steve, I can't wait for the winds to die down so you can go back to making some bad a$$ fishing videos. That being said...BAM!! Mad props on the Asian cuisine.
I really love this dish!!! Im half korean so my mom makes spicy chicken (i gotta have my spice) and she has a secret dipping sauce. I was wondering if smoking the mackerel makes it less fishy? if that makes sense. I can eat tuna and mahi mahi and I tried cero mackerel but it was wayyyy too fishy for me. I want to transition into a fish diet since its healthier but Im limited.
You probably had Spanish Mackerel or King Mackerel. Those are oily/fishy. Cero's are like Wahoo and have no fishy taste to them. Highly regarded. Only found in the Caribbean. People often smoke the Kings and Spanish because of the oily flavor and it holds the smoke taste really well. Down here making dip out of it is really popular. Outside of Cero, the Tunas, and the Snappers are really good and non-fishy. Grouper, Cobia, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, are also excellent from down here.
lol, went fishing and a six year old Costa boy on a jet ski ran straight into my two balloons drifting for sharks. Should have threw on a bunker snagger; taken his head for bait.
Need to be a lot more specific in regards to what you are going to use it for, what species, what type of bait, what kind of conditions, what reel, etc.
what I'm fishing is channel cats and bass, what I'm using for bait are live minnows or nightcrawlers. I guess what I was asking is what type of reel I already have the rod it's a uglystick gx2 8 ft casting rod.
No problem - Anytime you want to take a break from paddling I have my 16' CC at Garrison Bight and we can go do some flats fishing or something. IDK if you remember me - I'm Jay's son, we went fishing with Fred out by Boca Grande last year
Ah, what's up andres. Yea, I remember you. Just fished with your dad the other day. I'm pretty good on the boat fishing. Finding it hard enough to get time for my kayak. I will let you know though.
Yeah same, I'd like to think that if I lived somewhere where you can actually catch nice tasting fish fairly easily that I would just eat nothing but fish.
Yea, it is so thin. Generally, I throw it in the freezer and it will pull off fairly easy. It takes a while to set-up for filming so it thawed out too much.
The Weather Guy It is a tropical reef Mackerel that looks exactly like Spanish mackerel and kingfish but has bars on the side instead of spots or nothing, and is far far better to eat than Spanish or King. Called poor man's lobster in some areas. Delicious as sushi, sashimi, and basically any other way you want to prepare it.
Việt Nam hometown of rolls mackerel...👀👀👍👍 thank
Vietnam is great. Spent a lot of time there.
loved the music it brought me back to my moms house for a moment!
Yea, there was only three "asian" music choices. This was definitely the best one.
steve, just watching you eat it, fulfills me. it's almost like I can taste how good it is. thx for the awesome catch and cook, and eat videos. keep up the good work. And be safe.
Thanks for watching Kue. They are super fun to make.
Dude, really love what your doing and love your recipes on the catch and cooks, keep it up!

Those spring rolls had me wishing I was back in Nha Trang. Great job.
I did time there. Beautiful area.
Great Video! Once again you have inspired me to try your recipes. Keep making the catch and cook vids.
Definitely would on this one. Very easy and fun to make.
Here in France Vietnamese restaurants are everywhere it's so much better than Chinese . Clean and super healthy love it .
Nice!
Great angler and chef! Perfect combo!
Appreciate it Steve.
Hey Steve great video as usual. You who have access to fresh coconut should soak the fish in some warm coconut water for just a bit before using it in the spring roll. It gives it this slightly sweet flavor that really works well with the fresh veggies in the spring roll. Tight lines!
Great tip. Coconuts I do have. All over.
Wonderfull!
Great video man please don't stop making videos
Much love!
Appreciate it. It's been really fun so will keep up with it.
Mouthwatering ! Thanks. Love taste tests too!
Thanks for checking it out Bob.
grate vids and love seeing you do these catch and cooks vids and especially the fishing part, keep that rod bending and don't let up.
Outstanding, Steve. I love that kind of food. I also like a dipping sauce made of fish sauce, light soy, sliced serranos, garlic and a little sugar. Your catch & cooks are getting pretty advanced.
Sweet, salty, and spicy. Covers all the bases.
Looks freaking amazing and delicious !
It was. Ate it three different times. LOL.
great ideas!!!
Definitely recommend.
Steve you gotta do a Catch and Cook and Ship! To us lol this looks amazing
Wow, looks yummy. How long did u smoke the fish? Another great video.
LOL. that would be too much like a job. Plus, I would eat it all.
Nice Cero Mack Steve, enjoyed the catch and cook!
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Man I gain 5 lbs every time I watch "catch and cook". Keep up the good work!
At least this was a healthy one.
Looks amazing. Thumbs up!
Appreciate it Ceasar.
You always make me so dang hungry. Awesome video you a favorite
Thanks Pam. That is how I know I did a good job.
It looks so good. You should have a restaurant
That would cut into my fishing time.
Damn that's looks good, spot on catch and cook again
Yea, that was an excellent one. And healthy too.
Well done
Appreciate it Dorkacxi.
Another great one, make me hungry
Appreciate it John. That is how I know it works.

It definitely was. Ate it three different times. LOL.
Great video
Thanks for checking it out Mario.
They say presentation is important and you did a nice job on this one. As usual.
Thanks rich. I'm getting better.

Delicious!
Yes it was. Thanks for watching.
I love how every Asian style dish has the SAME Chinesey background music to accompany it.
Bro your making my mouth water! Those springrolls look bangin!! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jack. THat lets me know that I am doing it right.
now im hungry lol awesome video buddy!
great mukbang Steve...
Thanks. I figured some of my food freaks would like it.
Aloha Steve, @ 4:03 you can see the long yellow egg sack. Have you tried eating egg sacks? They're good fried, and also simmered in a Nitsuke sauce combining shoyu, sugar, sake' and ginger. I bet that Cero makes a killer cerviche.
Not so much. I've had salmon roe with raw egg. Not my flavors. Yea, Cero is great across the board like Tuna.
The music is lit 🔥 af
It matched pretty well.
Good vid! With shades of the 'Galloping Gourmet' . All that left out was a little wine drinking, 🤣
THanks Will. I am non alcoholic.
Well done!
Appreciate it.
Dang those were some big fillets!
Awsome.would like to try that.was waiting for Bruce Lee to kick down the door with that music playing. Lol
You need to open up a food truck, featuring fresh catch and whatever you want to sell/make that day. I think you would be quite a big hit. And you can still do catch and cook and food truck lunch.
Anything that takes away from me going fishing is not a good idea. LOL.
tasty Monday...👍
I would like to do it that way but I never know what and when I am going to catch something.
Looks good
My healthiest catch and cook yet.
Key West Kayak Fishing if it tasty it can't be healthy lol jk
it looks awesome!!! great job :)
Thanks Jake. Healthy too. Not too often that happens.
It's disturbing to me that I like to watch you eat more than I like to eat my self. And I love food
Awesome clip. I'm telling you... you need to startup a byo restaurant.
It would detract from my fishing time. LOL.
If I ever get to Key West, I'm stopping by for dinner.
It will most likely by frozen pizza though.
LOL.
Keep up the great vids
"Got the old chum bag out"... lol
If you chum, they will come.
looks all good to me , Wish I were there to sample . hay tight lines my friend.
One of my healthiest ones so far.
yes on food
OMG i want this NOW
It was great. Just go fishing and your set.
A great channel, I wish I could be your pal. Keep doing what you do
Man that was outstanding! Those spring rolls were really cool. Never had a spring roll even remotely close to that. I have got to give that a try. Too bad your feet are hidden by that table.
They were amazing tasting as well. Love the peanut sauce. I ate it for three meals. Yea, only on special occassions. LOL.
Steve, that looks delicious. I am back in KW, call me to share some of that delicious food..lol
Burger King is on the menu today.
Like your music choice...
Thanks. It fit well.
Man, you are a "bon vivant"!!!! Look at you at the table!!! (Wine is missing..)LOL
I NEVEr ...heard about that rice paper rolls...I will give them a try!!
I like the video!!
Ah yea, the spring roll. It is a great way to eat healthy. Non-alcoholic, no sugar drinks, so tap water it is.
Man , I’m Vietnamese but that dish you made is way better than my lol
Would love to see a squid catch video or some odd shellfish around the area. Or a blue crab style red sauce pasta mix.
Don't get too much of that around here. Some blue crabs and shrimp but not as much as on the mainland as we don't have a lot of wetland style breeding area. At least in the lower Keys.
Nice Cero
Thanks Huck. Tasty one.
Steve, just go to Publix and special order Nori or what ever else you need that isn't sold normally. The store manager will know what to do in case the clerk's don't. dammit! now I'm hungry for Japanese food. Tight lines and keep'em coming!
Then the fish would go bad. Don't have a lot of time for these so have to be creative on the fly depending on what I catch.
Peanut sauce goes good on everything
I should not of watched this right now lol, I'm so damn hungry now. Great catch and good video!
Thanks Jup. You always have McDonalds McFish Sandwich. LOL.
Damn, should have called me up, could of sent ya some sea weed wraps from Tims. I even have 5 packs of the stuff in the pantry...Sandra eats them like chips. lol. Awesome cook and catch Chef Steve. ; )
Thanks Icey. Yea, threw a wrench in the plans, but just like fishing you just have to adapt. Came out pretty good rather than another Sushi video.
I hear ya.
sweet
Appreciate it.
Hello Steve, great vid sir👍 nice size zero tho🤙
Thanks Diego. Perfect eater size.
Do a multispecies shark fishing and a taste test of a shark!
Yea, planning on it.
lmao at that eat freak part then the orgasmic sounds you are killing me I can't stop lmao
Glad you liked it. I have my pack of eating freaks.
I wish this guy was my dad
I wish he were my mom
Looks great!! I luv smoked fish. How can you tell the difference ,between mackerels? Great vid again Steve.
King Mackerels are pretty much plain silver. Spanish and Cero have spots. Both have random spots, but Cero has a line of spots along the lateral line that are similar to the line on a Snook. It goes straight along the body one solid line.
have you tried sushi wrap using sweet Korean red pepper paste? or just plain hot paste it's really good.
Never have. Sounds interesting.
Yum.
Thanks man.
This is the fish you cut trying to catch that Hammerhead huh? I see the chunk missing from the one side lol.... Also yet another fantastic video brother!
Yea, paying my taxes.
Bro this looks so delicious and it is good to see you eating healthy. Do you have a tuna recipe or even shark
Yea, it was definitely both. th-cam.com/video/4Szp95F7uh8/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/fF8HcLcEMmw/w-d-xo.html Shark will be coming.
Curious: how do cero taste compared to the ole king mackerel?
Totally different fish. Non-oily/fishy tasting. Extremely good for sashimi and any type of raw based foods.
like this
Thanks.
Are the ballyhoo seasonal or there all year round. Is the gulf side best place to catch them? Thanks.
They are year round. For some reason, I have not been getting very many on the Atlantic side. The Gulf plenty. Lots have been on the flats as well. Just chum and if they don't show up in 15 minutes move to another spot.
luv watching ur videos and u no homo
Thanks. LOL. Appreciate that.
Damn Steve, I can't wait for the winds to die down so you can go back to making some bad a$$ fishing videos. That being said...BAM!! Mad props on the Asian cuisine.
Thanks Peter. March is our windiest month down here.
First time I've seen these made with raw fish, interesting.
That's what happens when Publix fails on their ordering.
Even Koreans in Korea eat beef
finger lickin good! looks delicious.
Thanks Snook. Yea, I ate it three different times it was so good.
Also, how many years did it take you to master all of this?!
Dude I'm coming down there to fish
Come on down. Lots of fish and water.
nice vid >>>the music lol
It was the only thing that i could find that matched.
lol its good stuff
Any ballyhoo on Atlantic side?
I have not been seeing that many of them. On the Gulf they are stacked up. Might be the reason the Sail fishing has sucked.
lol, went fishing and a six year old Costa boy on a jet ski ran straight into my two balloons drifting for sharks. Should have threw on a bunker snagger; taken his head for bait.
what would you recommend for a good pole that sub 100
Need to be a lot more specific in regards to what you are going to use it for, what species, what type of bait, what kind of conditions, what reel, etc.
what I'm fishing is channel cats and bass, what I'm using for bait are live minnows or nightcrawlers. I guess what I was asking is what type of reel I already have the rod it's a uglystick gx2 8 ft casting rod.
Shimano Sedona or Penn Battle II are solid budget reels. Daiwa BG are popular down here.
gotta try that after I seen the rice on your face lmao
lol gotcha...I meant for the future.
When they come back in stock that will be my sign to do a catch and cook sushi style.
Did you make the peanut sauce??
No, out of a bottle. Seems pretty easy to make though.
Not even Sugar Apple had Nori? This town, I swear
Ah, didn't even think about them. My next go around and if the big box places don't have it I will hit them.
Thanks.
No worries, man. I'm sure ill run into you not too far in the future
All of the stuff you cook on video is healthy compared to what I eat... I mean I'm eating pizza as I watch this...
Outside of these, fast food is my go to.
Yeah same, I'd like to think that if I lived somewhere where you can actually catch nice tasting fish fairly easily that I would just eat nothing but fish.
Retz where do u live that u can't?
not sure that would be healthy either. I'm concerned with the amount of fish he's consuming with all those toxins in predatory fish.
🎣
Thanks for watching NORTH.
if I come to florda will u take me fishing
Depends on the wind.
I'm king again
On the ball.
REPRESENT
Will do.
I hate taking the skin off of Mackerel. Always the last thing I want to do after a long day of fishing.
Yea, it is so thin. Generally, I throw it in the freezer and it will pull off fairly easy. It takes a while to set-up for filming so it thawed out too much.
thanks Steve for the video.. just wondering is your parent Korean? you have very typical Korean face...
No problem. I am African.
hard to believe but I will take your word for it..
the hell is a cero mackerel I'm from North Carolina by the way
The Weather Guy It is a tropical reef Mackerel that looks exactly like Spanish mackerel and kingfish but has bars on the side instead of spots or nothing, and is far far better to eat than Spanish or King. Called poor man's lobster in some areas. Delicious as sushi, sashimi, and basically any other way you want to prepare it.
RikkiTikkiTavi, Thanks.
Yea, what Rikki said. Not a oily fish like the other Macs. Primarily find them around the Keys and occassionally south Florida and to the Bahamas.
