    Great insight. Sorry to hear about your robbery.
    On the overheating issue, the trick for me is to use the Volta grip, which doubles as an external power source. As others have mentioned, it is the battery under heavy load in the confined space which causes the overheating problem. The Volta has proven to be a very convenient and portable solution (albeit a bit pricey) that gets around the need for a blocky external power bank.
    I run my camera in the media mod case mounted on the Volta but with no battery in the camera. Works great so far. I’ll admit that unless I want to buy multiple grips, I’m limited to the equivalent run-time of about two or three traditional batteries before the grip needs to be charged. It’s proven enough for my use.

    So, I did follow your advice and it worked. I can display now both videos and images.
    Thank you!

    512GB Sandisk Extreme or better will work, I've been using it for 6 months in a row now and no problem. I never had overheating issues since I turn off the settings that I don't need and there's proper air circulation.

    Good video. Thank you. Are you aware that your voiceover is hard panned to the right until 4:15. It corrects itself for about a minute and then goes back to right panned. The voiceover is on both channels during your hands on demo parts. However, your audio effects are in stereo left/right throughout.

    through many months of frustration I found out that you do not have to take out the battery to reset it. All you have to do is hold the power button anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds let go, and then press the power button everything should come back to life. That works on my GoPro 8 and on my GoPro 10. I hope this saves you guys headache and hassle. I am sorry if this was already covered I didn't read all the comments.

    Gopros are very good for stabilization. That's the reason I choose to buy one. I grew up watching 576 X 484 CRT TVs, so 1920 X 1080 30/60fps is just fine with me.

    Maybe I should reformat after every download instead of deleting only. I’m about to throw mine in the bin….it just kept stopping today and the camera is on top of my helmet …normally in front of my chin where I can keep an eye on it…I missed so much footage…in the Austrian countryside ….I’m am pretty angry. This vid was very helpful. Thanks.

      @TrackOurJourney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I am sorry to hear that! It is very frustrating this issue. But reformat after every download may work and also just not using the 4 k and instead do only 1080 might be better.
      Also it works harder when you use mic adapter as well.

    Question; Live in Arizona yesterday was 109 degrees, minor detail, while riding ebike with no air conditioner, Hero 8 on helmet got kinda hot. On Hero 8, I use wifi connection between the Samsung S23 and the Hero 8 which is great so you can actually see what your filming. Question is does the wifi connection contribute to the heating problem. Also when using the voice command feature contribute to the heating. Appreciate your input. First time viewer and sorry about the theft. Time to invest in security cameras, huh? Another review on that?

    GoPro has become a garbage product. When it works, the footage is amazing... But as a reliable action camera, it simply isn't. I and a lot of friends had tons of issues with the Hero 9 and 10... Random lockups requiring the battery to be pulled... overheating... And this is when mounted to a motorcycle, so it's getting 100mph+ air running over the camera... And it STILL overheated numerous times... I had the subscription and replacement plan, and I spent a lot of time with them on the phone, and they told me that overheating is normal, and that I need to drop down to 30fps to reduce overheating...
    I asked them why they market a 4k120 camera that can't even do 60 frames reliably, and how is dropping it to 30 frames considered a "fix" and "working properly"? They said that is how it is designed and if I want to keep it from overheating, I have to limit my video to 30 frames...
    I guess you have to either be in snow, or doing underwater filming to be able to reliably use 60 frames or higher? I switched to the Insta360 One RS and haven't looked back. The Founder and CEO of GoPro using the company as his personal piggy bank and losing investors and almost running the company into the ground, has clearly impacted their product and customer service...

    i just got mine , so i thought i will test it out, i disabled most of the stuff that i dont use ,i put the camera on my desk and start recording at 1080 because i want to live stream while driving mc so i dont need that 4k filming, after 1 hour the battery were 6% and the camera was too hot and it shut the recording off ! im not sure if i plug it to external battery pack while live streaming from my motorcycle would help the heat problem ? since you drive motorcycle what accessories do you use as well ?

    • @TrackOurJourney
      @TrackOurJourney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always use the gopros with batteries, and when moving have not had issues with overheating as long as the setting is 1080 and 60fps. you can use external power and keep the gopro door open to help with heat also theoretically, but I don't do that setup so I cannot attest to how well that works. you will have to use a battery pack strapped to your helmet which adds more weight. I think I covered my helmet set up in this video.
      th-cam.com/video/jMu2ZrC-ptc/w-d-xo.html
      might need to upload an updated helmet set up later on as well.
      hope that helps!

    i have been fighting those bug issues going back to my gopro 7 and really got tired of pulling those batteries from the 7 - 9 and 10 then this summer i saw a blog where it said if it freezes hold the power button in for 15 seconds and it will reset and it does. sometimes when doing time lapse and i want to switch to regular video on the same clip the touch screen wont work and this happens on all my cameras so i try to use the gopro when it really dont matter that much but if there is a speech going on its a good bet it will shut off at the worst time. i got a new iphone 13 thinking it has good stabalization and even with the same video settings the files are smaller but the iphone over heats worse than the gopro but the iphone dont freeze up. it would be a plus if the gopro came with a temperature guage but it dont so you just keep going til it shuts down. sometimes i bring 2 cameras because of this and it would be a plus if the camera and media mod were any other color than black.

    • @TrackOurJourney
      @TrackOurJourney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is really uncertain when the gopro will work 100% or not. I have had a few clips that didn't turn out even when I started the ride checking all the videos. It's almost like you have to stop and pull over here and there to make sure it's still functioning. Which I had been doing. Since I still use these things.

    Thank you for this presentation / 1st time viewer.
    Planning an upcoming trip I've been considering 'finally' getting a GoPro. The "10" looks beautiful, the audio seems great, the daylight visuals striking - but, the problems with the overheating and shutting down and burning one's fingers within minutes are a real set back to my making this purchase.
    People complain, a lot these days, about Apple. But can you imagine an Apple iPhone stop working after 20 minutes? Freezing? Becoming so hot you can't hold it?
    But, to compare, I also can't imagine taping my $1,000+ iPhone to a snowboard, holding it in front of the face of a snarling tiger, or extending it out over some live molten lava flowing from a volcano.
    Should I consider a Pentax? Though bulky, and pricy, they do 'work', and offer beautiful images / video - pro quality.
    I'm sooo sorry to learn of the theft of your equipment. No one deserves that. I hope you recover from that experience soon.

    • @TrackOurJourney
      @TrackOurJourney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      DSLR really is better but for action sports you cannot just mount it and forget it since it's expensive. Older gopros like the hero 5 or 6 are great but if ypu want the stabilization the hero 7/8 also been okay but it just seems like the newer their models get the worse it becomes because they try to make it perform better quality images but it fails so fast anyways. A happy medium gor me would be the hero 7/8 black I only had problems when I rode in cold weather with those like 50F + wind-chill. But maybe of I try the warming up the batteries first it will not freeze anymore

    • @MrModel--CAPTURED-ON-FILM
      @MrModel--CAPTURED-ON-FILM 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrackOurJourney Thank you for your reply, and for taking the time to so openly share your experience and views about your work and the equipment you use. ...again, I am so sorry to hear of the theft of your equipment.
      I wrote my question to you, and, to a photographer in England. His response was that he uses his GoPro 10 outdoors, and, in England, it is generally chilly or cold where he lives. So, he has not experienced the "shutting down" that so many complain about. He also wonders if a firmware update has fixed this problem / that this problem may only have been a challenge with earlier "10" models. (As well, he primarily uses a tripod or a mounting bracket, so does not notice any over-heating that would make the camera too hot to touch)
      There is a lot that is favorable to be said about making a GoPro purchase. Especially if one is planning a trip that is adventurous! Diving with it into the water, etc. Do you concur with this other photographer, that the 'shutting down' can be eliminated? And the 'over heating' can be avoided, and does not adversely affect the camera's use, if you use a mount attachment?
      It's a shame that a 1/2 thousand dollar purchase might simply stop working in 15 minutes. Kind of defeats the purpose of being on an adventure. I hope you can share some info that will be positive....
      Again, thank you for all that you do.

    • @TrackOurJourney
      @TrackOurJourney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear. GoPro is taking a real sh*t in terms of quality control. Because others have problems with hero8 as well. So it's pretty much a crap shoot with GoPro.
      I personally no longer record motorcycle videos on 4K because it just doesn't work. No matter what I do if it's 4k it will not last long because of overheating so I have been only recording on 1080p 60fps with either the hero 8 or hero 10 black and haven't had issues since. I also tried the dji osmo action 2 but I end up also just recording on 1080p 60fps for it because it is even worse with overheating on 4K even on motorcycle rides.

      You should look up a Sony FDR-X3000. Sell the gopro.
      I have two and never overheated. Plus, the X3000 has a mic in jack, trepied mount, HDMI out.
      I put it on my helmet and film the entire ride. 5h straight on a 128GB card. Worked fine in 37°C (98.6F) as it din on 2°C (35.6F).
      Stabilisation is perfect for a helmet mount and also for just walking with the camera.
      Also, X3000 beats Hero10, Pocket 2 and Action 1 and 2 in low light. The evidence is on my channel.
      Keep in mind that on my channel videos are upscaled to 1440p from 1080p @60fps.
      The 1080p@60fps is flawless with the XAVC codec.

      @hayabusaTravels have you tried actually recording in 2.7k or 4k? And how long does the battery last on those settings? Also wow never overheating! that's awesome. Thanks for your suggestion.

    • @hayabusaTravels
      @hayabusaTravels 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrackOurJourney The camera does not have 2.7K. It only has 1080p@60 and 4K@30. Only with the battery you get at least 1.5h @1080p and a little over an hour on 4K.
      I only shoot in 1080p as I travel for at least 3 weeks in a row and HDD space is limited.
      I use 4K only when I'm home and need to do a short video near my moto, single shoot for a 20min video.
      For the rest, only 1080p@60fps, at 60MBit/sec and thats just perfect.
      I'm telling you... jus try it once and you'll never go back.
      Wanted 2.7K@60fps but after researching the available cameras I decided to just keep the Sonys.
      First one I got in March of 2017 and the second one I got in January 2021.
      Action 2 would be more o less perfect but you cannot bouth charge while filming with a mic attached.
      Osmo 1 has focusing isses and a big crop with RockSteady on, and about the gopros ... you know.
      I want to also tell the bad. ;)
      The only issue for the FDR X3000 is the fact that the preamps are pretty bad. The mic is hot and you will clip the audio.
      But I use declipper in editing.
      Using a volume controller will not work as the camera will turn up the gain without your control and the sound will just be a lowered voice with higher and with noise floor.
      You will get very good audio without an external mic but not in the wind. There are solutions for that also.
      Also, if you hard hit the camera, or drop it, you will loose focus forever.
      No camea is perfect but for me, the X3000 comes pretty close.
      Do your research and see if it's the camera for you.

      Short presentation video with the "vlogg rig" I use:
      th-cam.com/video/tPIjfkQKdm4/w-d-xo.html
      This is my english version channel.
      For best results use the XAVC camera codec.
      You will see that the sound does not clip because I used declipper in editing.
      For examples of the XAVC streched to 1440p, watch the videos from the Turkey ride as the new ones posted from Greece are older, captured in mp4 format that is lower quality 1080p and also streched to 1440p to get the VP9 youtube codec.
