I recently bought a pair of BF-88e which are like BF-888s but preprogrammed for PMR446 with fixed antennas and supplied with USB chargers. I haven't managed to get the chargers apart (there is one screw but they won't easily come apart even with the screw removed) but I can see that they supply approximately 4.1 volts at the terminals which hunts up and down slightly suggesting an intelligent charge circuit.
I made few chargers and batteries with that charging board, too, but I never seen drop-in charger like that. I like that ventilated bottom. But that charger interior is horrible same as mine was.
If you open up the pack you will find a charge circuit in the battery you likely would have been fine just powering the base with usb5v no need for the charger board
+BillTheBox An interesting theory. I'll test one and see what I can find out. I've another drop in charger to test - but I suspect they can charge at a maximum of 5 volts. I'd hope that using one or two of those resistors and the transistor it could cut off at a more suitable 4.2v.

A small hole in the case above the TP4056 module would allow you to easily check the charge state. I like your videos. Thank you.
+Ray Miller You're welcome and thank you. I have actually added the exact hole you suggest. Works well.
great job on the modified
battery charger

+Radoslav Gulik Its still working well for me - safer I think too!
Yeah, exactly, safer than the original crap...
Perfect. Really a very good modification. Have you changed the LED?
Hi sir how many hours to charge a Baofeng BF 888s
cool modification ! Liked
HOW DO YOU PLUG THE OTHER END OF THE USB IN TO THE SOLAR PANEL OR BATT? What if you wanted to use a 12 volt batt? Use a car Usb charger ?

so they where charging at 5v ?
wouldn't they do that because the battery might have a discrete circuit ?

That's exactly what I was thinking.
now you use a power bank to charge the battery.
whats the point in upgrading shit to shit+? this craps just make noise
I wouldn't trust Baofeng radios to pass RF standards even as paperweights with their batteries removed.
