Great tutorial and extremely helpful. Is there a reason you didn't solder new wires on the battery terminals and use those to connect to the board's output so that you can also charge via original charging cradle? Also, did you consider mounting the board at 90 degrees and cut a small USB-C hole in the side of the battery so you can plug a traditional USB-C into the side of the battery to charge it? I didn't see a final shot of the finished product, but I think you have a permanent pigtail coming off the battery, right?
All of those things are totally possible! For my purpose, the radio and battery go into a box that makes the stock cradle useless. The permeant pigtail can be annoying at times however it eliminates the fail point of the USB port breaking inside. It is all designed to be slightly more rugged.
Nice video! Helped me with planning the modification of my batteries. I have some questions thought! 1. Wouldn't you need to connect the output wires to the OUT connections of the charger board to have the device running via USB without battery involved? 2. Could you put the USB charger board into the charging unit of the Baofeng and just modify this charging unit to charge over USB?

No battery eliminator kit for the bf888s?
A battery eliminator is exactly that. This allows you to charge the battery to be cord free for a few hours of moderate use and have USB charging.
@@daneoctane Do you leave it plugged into the USB, all the time?
@@John336NLT you can if you want. The charge board is intelligent and will turn on and off as needed, or you can just plug in when needed to charge.
