    I have this set of 888s on MURS, with three NOAA weather channels, and eight FRS channels.
    Make sure you change the antenna to a VHF/UHF antenna (or NAGOYA 701 or 771)

    The latest version of Chirp balked, on my radio. Said it was out of range. Besides, story is, doing this stresses out the processor.
    Output power will be reduced. ;-)
    I note most repeaters in my area are UHF, regardless.
    Worth a try. No matter. These are amazing radios. They reach repeaters, Nice size. Almost impossible to break. Great for morning walks. Shipped, 2 for 20 dollars (amazon)

      They are low powered radios, so you can"t expect much from them. They are fun to play with though! If you do the conversion, ensure that you change the antenna, the one that comes with is ONLY for UHF.

    Do you have, or can you link to a video for how to set these to VHF? I tried following with the program that came with the radio. (which is in Chinese first and then you switch it to english). I couldn't get these to take.
    Did you use Chirp? Are there some 888s' that don't take the VHF, or do they all accept it?

    How did you disable TX on some frequencies? I cannot find such an option in CHIRP or the native Baofeng software. Thanks.

    I programmed a set on 2m ham years ago and they transmitted to each other but tried local repeaters and wasn't able to hit any repeaters. They didn't have enough TX power on VHF to go very far. Also, "Multi-Use Radio Service" is ch.1) 151.820MHz, ch.2) 151.880MHz, ch.3) 151.940MHz, ch.4) 154.570MHz, and ch.5) 154.600MHz.

      @@fittoat9261 almost two watts when operated within specs. :-) PMR falls into UHF. At that level, I doubt you'll cause a lot of chaos. Just Google any frequency you transmit on to check for local use. Turn off duplex in Chirp to disable a channel from transmitting.
      My 888S's transmit on police towing services around here by default, out of the box. I fixed that. Disabling duplex works on NOAA frequencies, also.

    you shouldn't worry about endorsing a radio because of the FCC. 95% of the planet is not under FCC jurisdiction. americans often forget they are not the only country

    • @chrisgullett4332
      @chrisgullett4332 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny thing is that most countries simply copy the FCC laws in their own countries. A lot of countries have even stricter laws on radio frequencies.
