Can't feel your chest during pushups?

  • Pushups are one of the best bodyweight exercises to work our chest, but some people just don't "feel it" there.
    This may help!
I mention during the video that having a large chest might be more of an aesthetic goal as opposed to an athletic one. ALL of our muscles are important, but things like bulging biceps and plate armor chest MAY be over-emphasized simply because they look cool. Feel free to discuss!

How do you all feel about these extra-short videos (30 seconds or so?)
I know they annoy some people, but they're a great way for me to answer VERY common questions with simple answers.
I mean, I can expand this into a 15-minute video with 5 ads, but it's really something I can answer in 30 seconds. 5 seconds if you asked me on the street.

No need to pointlessly stretch something out in my opinion. If you can do it in 30 seconds, do a 30 second video. If you need a minute, do a minute long video, etc.

I usually only do push ups for my chest and occasionally dumbells exercises and ring dips which is really good for your chest/shoulders/triceps. What works for me is rolling my shoulders back and doing full range of motion, basically touch your chest to the floor and lock out your elbows at the top. Keep your hands at an angle just like how Hampton. Just make sure your elbows arent flared out or at an obscure angle. Also control the speed and dont rush your reps, best is to keep the muscle under tension

For more effect on the chest, have your hands further down closer to your belly button. The other direction for more effect on the triceps.

yeah, my no1 cue is to try and "crush" the floor beneath you by trying and bringing your hands together during the whole movement. does wonders for the mind muscle connection

Please make a video on how to strengthen the digestive system. My mom recently hit menopause and her digestion has become very sluggish. Doctors just give her antacids and they are making her feel worse.

    Hint: DON'T PUSH AT ALL.
Squeeze your pec muscle and your body will rise up like you're pushing. It looks the same, but feels very different.

Do you maybe have any advice on how to get over the more metaphysical boundaries of exercise? Like major depression and anxiety and body issues? It's so difficult to get past them sometimes and knowing these tricks and such you show makes me want to but it all seems so Sisyphean right now and impossible to get over.

Very good video! Imo chest, back, and biceps were the trickiest groups to avoid “cheating” on form. I have rounded shoulders so this video made me realize that affected my chest activation.

    Hi Hampton,
Will you ever do a video focusing on Scapulars?
I find twisting the spine, and lying on the floor, very relaxing, but I'm in my late 20s, and shouldn't need to relieve the pressure every 3-4 hours.
