Followed these same steps from another video you made some time ago with our staffy puppy that we got at 8 weeks old, less than 4 weeks ago. She is already fully toilet trained and has been for a couple of weeks bar only a couple of incidents where she got really excited by visitors, which is more our fault than anything. She already sits by the back door when she wants to go outside to use the toilet. Great tips, thanks for this and your other content, it's been a huge help.
If there's one video that would be really helpful from you, it would be a run through of the developmental stages of a puppy and what you can expect at certain ages, when you should start work on obedience, at what age you should expect behaviour - if there's one thing that I think is missing from your videos it's the idea of whether your techniques are age appropriate e.g. you probably wouldn't leash pop an 8 week old puppy, but when would you?

It takes time. I was smug because I trained my 11 week old Border Collie to go on command. The problem was, unless I took her out at the usual likely times and commanded her… she’d just pee and poo anywhere… couldn’t care less about not going inside.
Just keep doing the right things consistently and eventually it does click. Ultimately, pups can hold it in longer as they grow so even if you have a pup that couldn’t care less about doing it in the house, the number of cleanups falls dramatically.

My pup has a dog door. She is still too small for me to want to leave the door open for her. I don’t want her to get out of the yard. So I basically have been doing the puppy pad & take her outside. The 1 hour timer is a great help. I must say there is as much training for me as there is for her. Been 20 years since I had a pup. I forgot some of the training things. Thanks for videos. I love the way you train with rewards and not beating.

Just got a barely 8 weeks old akita inu and even tho he is mostly an angel when it come to basic behavior (for a curious puppy nway) AND already only poop outside (he seem very proud of it somehow 🤣) when it come to number 1 I never tought such small things would need to leak so much. The alarms every hours really seem to have reduced his bad habbit of just doing it randomly but the little bugger just wont ask for the door even tho he LOVE going outside.

Love the videos. Would be interested in your suggestions on how to keep a dog - 1 year old - from chewing on their blanket in their crate. I have tried bones in the cage already. Other than this they are great. Also, suggestions on how to handle having two litter-mates. I - because I am stupid - could not decide between two pups in a litter so I got them both. They are a year old and doing well for the most part, but would love to hear your thoughts on how to handle training litter-mates. Anyway, keep up the great videos!

Will Atherton, how do I train my 8-9 month old dog to be potty trained? Ever since she was a puppy she lived at my grandma's house and has been urinating and excreting her waste in the garden and recently she moved to my house and she's been urinating and excreting her wast in the garden here and has been killing the grass with her urine. We tried using a urine spray to lead her to where we want her to go but it just doesn't seem to be working as she has been doing her business in the grass her whole time at my grandma's house, she doesn't know other places to go except the grass. Can you please make a video on how to make a non potty trained dog to be potty trained at an older age when they have been urinating anywhere they wanted? Thanks! I love your videos!

In the 2 days we have had him we have had some success & he has had 2 wees outside & 4 💩...Will my idea of gradually moving the pad closer to the backdoor, then outside work??

Hi will watches all of your videos and I have a question that none seem to answer not even on your website
I have a 20 week old french bulldog and she is toilet trained to go on puppy pads she will only go on the floor if there’s no puppy pad around
Also I live in an apartment on the top floor no garden or I believe she would of already been trained to go outside in a garden
What do you recommend me to do is my only option to keep her on puppy pads now
Or how can I now change her from puppy pads to go outside I will still go down on the hour every hour if it will work or am I past the point of no return now haha ?
Hope to get a reply mate I’ve taught her how to sit and lay down in french and English after watching your videos thought it was a hilarious idea by yourself 👍😂

I take my dog out every hour on the hour, he doesn’t use the restroom often when I take him out but it will hit late at night and that’s when he will release his bladder, he is scared of the rain and dislikes the cold, so he just straight up will not go while we are outside and after being in a shelter since birth he just feels more comfortable emptying his bladder inside anytime I walk away (in his kennel) but I know he doesn’t like it because he acknowledges and pouts when he does

Hi, has anyone got any advice for a rescue who keeps having accidents in the house even after being taken out? Shes a 3 yr old swiss shepherd, Ive tried the on the hour thing, praise massively after she does something but sometimes if she doesnt want to go, she will cower and lay down and whine for half hour until we decide to go back in. Then will go on the kitchen rug not long after. She will cower and roll over when i notice so i just put her outside while i clean up. She knows its wrong and i dont scold her its just getting abit frustrating as we are always letting her out and as i say, loads of praise when she goes. When we got her about a month ago, she wouldnt even poo unless we were with her in the garden as she just sat at the door whining. Any advice appreciated, thankyou x

If i am using their food as treats throughout the day for training should i be reducing that from their daily intake of two or three times a day so as to avoid over feeding them
In a previous comment i ask about a video for training them to sit and accept cleaning their teeth but have you done a video for introducing them to the car so it is a less traumatic event

Make up a hardwood square if he starts, pick him up and put him on the square. Keep that square, or many squares outside and he will eventually do it in those areas... we have two Tenterfield pups at 14 wks who use a synthetic grass patch with a drain ... one is inside one is out ... it has worked so far

You need not to give him a choice. Watch him and taie him outside. If he won't go after 10 mins. Go back inside. Any sign he wants to go, back outside. Show him outside is where to go. Repeat if necessary. He will go .You need to be patient .

We adopted a 14wk Am Bully and thought he was toilet trained because he always did it outside. Turns out if the external doors are shut he doesn't ask to go out and just does it at a door, any door. We are always home but still have not been able to catch him in the act to correct quickly enough. I'm now setting hourly alarms and will take him to the same spot every time.

    • @claireeesped
      @claireeesped ปีที่แล้ว +1

It means practically no accidents and the only accidents are gonna be more based on their access to the right spots than inability to control themself, perfect toilet training usually means they know how to alert you to be taken outside as well

My 5 month old puppies have been getting really good about toilet training but last night I left them and went for a bath. They had been allowed into the garden beforehand and they are crate trained so have control of their toileting but after my bath, probably an hour after I left them, they had gone to the toilet on the living room carpet. I don't know if it was a mistake or separation anxiety. Any thoughts anyone?

I have a 14yo female golden retriever & a recently owner surrendered adoption of an 18 month female chocolate lab. Golden is great no issues, the lab we are working through videos. She came potty & crate trained along with a few other limited commands which also working on and she is picking up on training quickly. The problem is I have a friend’s house 7mo female husky whom uses a doggy doorbell which I taught her and is housebroken at her home, however EVERY time she comes to my house, she uses potty outside but within 15 minutes and continued through her visit she pees on my GR bed or the floor and also poops in the house. We close the bedroom door so she can’t get in there but she will stop playing walk to a specific spot and potty. No warning and no tells. I’m at a loss how to fix this. The friend whom is here the whole visit as he has none of this from her at his home where he has 3 little designer dogs who do pee in his house. Any suggestions for the husky at my house is greatly appreciated. Recently I cleaned up her accident and put it in a spare crate with her, I’ve cleaned it up and taken all accidents outside and told her the potty command. I’ve told her no when we do catch her and scoop her up to finish outside. Yesterday day in 5 hours she had 6 accidents. We know it’s her bc poop is much smaller than my girls and because she squats and walks/waddles while peeing. I use odor neutralizing spray to clean up the hardwoods. Today out of desperation I cleaned it up. And then wrapped the tied and knotted poop bag on her collar and after that there were no more accidents on Sunday. Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions

My pup is 15 weeks cause when I got him he was paws off ground due to not having all the shots. He learned to go on the wee pad very quickly but now that he can go outside he’s just not wanting to go. I know it’s a process and patience lol. I take him out first thing in the morning and he won’t go. I put him back in his crate and wait another 30min-1hr. I take him back out and still nothing. I don’t want him to keep holding it in so I ended up letting him go again on the wee wee pad.
I really don’t know what else to do - for context I don’t have my own yard or anything. I tried bringing out a wee wee pad (used and new) and still doesn’t want to go. Please help with some advice 🙏🏽

We've trained crate training, but she still does it. I've set an alarm to take her out before she pees, which worked for a while, but she has now worked out a routine where she now pees before my alarm goes off, and now she barks to say "hey, I've had a pee - come clean it up"...every day at 05:30. Potty training can be very frustrating for some people. This video has a lot of useful information. If you'd like to go a bit more in-depth into the behavior behind it, and how to use that for dog potty training, check out this video ❤:

When my wife got our 8 week old shiba puppy, I slept on the couch for a few weeks and took him out almost every 30 minutes, I think I went a little overboard because he sits by the front door now when he doesn’t need to go, I just wait till he whines till I let him out haha

What does "give them the opportunity" mean? I put her in the right spot and she just runs off. How do you keep her there to go toilet?

One of my puppies does the sniffing and circles. One just squats and goes like he has a Chinese bladder.

I would love to see a video about excitement- or submissive peeing, als this is another facet of the toilet training you're treating in this video.

My dog just won’t pee or poop at home anymore after doing his things outside. However, there are times that we don’t want to bring him out, like having a rainy day or a storm. How can we encourage him to go to toilet at home during those days?

I would not do that. Going out on the rain, snow is part of owning a dog. Deal with it. If you don't want to then maybe you are not ready to care for a dog.

mine is doing this haha. im trying taking her in for 5 mins when shes refusing, then bringing her straight back out, so she learns she cant just whine her way out of it. it has resulted in me standing in the rajn at 2am for last the last 3 days tho...

I have one of those! I learned to wait for the extras. Once she peed 7 times within a few minutes!! Just shy of 4 months, she rarely pees even 3x, mostly after a long sleep. I think its a maturity thing.
