    Rink hockey (or Roller Hockey) is a cool variation of the other forms of hockey. I think it's pretty interesting and I'm sure I played something like that in school.
    To pre-answer all the haters out there - yes this is real, and yes people choose to play this over ice hockey.
    If I see any disparaging (and rather predictable) hater comments such as 'this is pussy hockey' or 'this is lame' - your comment will swiftly be deleted and you'll be swiftly banned.
    I've given up tolerating narrow-minded haters.

    • @peymickey

      As someone who plays inline hockey, the pussy hockey comments are genuinely the worst. I personally prefer the control you have in inline hockey and it genuinely helps with stick handling for ice players. Hockey is hockey.

      I agree. There's different skill aspects to all these versions of hockey and to say that one is inferior to the other because 'you can't hit them' is sad. Thanks for your comment.

      I would compare ice hockey and inline hockey to rugby union and rugby league. They’re both variations of the same game but there’s a lot of key differences that differentiate the two. I’ve played and watched ice for years and done a little bit of inline (mainly as off ice training) and while skills are transferrable, there’s a lot of rule differences to remember.

    Some further notes about this sport:
    1 - It was invented in England in the late 19 century as an alternative to ice hockey.
    2 - It was quite popular in Europe in the decades before world war II. England was very good in this sport. Charlie Chaplin was a player of this sport.
    3 - After world war II, in 1947, Portugal won its first world championship. From this time, the popularity of this sport would fade away in Northern and Central Europe. In Portugal it would become the second most popular sport after football (soccer),. In some parts of Spain such as Catalonia too.
    4 - In the 1950's and 60's Portugal was the best country in the world in this sport. This sport is for Portugal what rugby is for South Africa or New Zealand, or what ice hockey is for Canada or Czechia.
    6 - In the 1970's the level of rink hockey played by the Spanish (above all the Catalans and the Galicians) improved a lot. Some towns in the center and north of Italy have also important rink hockey teams. In South America, the city of San Juan, Argentina, is crazy about this sport. There are wonderful players coming from there.
    7 - With the advent of private TV channels in the 90's, this sport almost stopped being shown on the Portuguese TV. Because the TV was able to influence peoples minds, the popularity of this sport became seriously diminuished. Portugal was no longer the best country in the world in this sport. Spain was becoming better, and Argentina too. This is because TV does not show what the people want. Thy show what the international business wants them to show. The big advertisers are mostly interested in football. They do not easily sponsor this sport.
    8 - Nowadays the best countries in the world are: Argentina, Spain, Portugal, France and Italy. France is surprisingly producing a number of very good players such as the three Benedetto brothers who all play for Portuguese teams. Chile, Colombia, Angola (the best African team), Germany, England, the USA and Switzerland also play this sport.
    9 - Portugal still boasts the best club championship in the world. All the three major football clubs such as Benfica, Sporting and Porto have major rink hockey teams made up of professional players. Sporting has recently won the European Champions League beating the Portuguese club Oliveirense in Porto.
    10 - Benfica has the oldest rink (quad) hockey team in the world. It plays this sport since 1917.

    I just wanted to say this video is extremely well done! I love how you kept it just long enough, and for someone who’s never seen it played in my case. It was extremely helpful as my company is adding it as a sport and must learn the game of Rink Hockey top to bottom! It’s perfect for me to send to interested players so hopefully you’ll see some new subscribers in the next few months. I played Inline Hockey for 20yrs straight before a unintended 9.5yr hiatus. However, I’m back playing again and loved how you explained quickly that Inline Hockey is similar but not to be confused with “Rink Hockey”. I will be teaching this sport so @Ninh Ly if you have any other videos or suggestions for me to look up I’d greatly appreciate any help you’d be willing to provide me with. If a subscriber has some recommendations I’d be so grateful to get any and all information for Rink Hockey! Like I said I am tasked with learning the game and teaching/coaching as we speak! Keep up the GREAT WORK @Ninh Ly! Thanks 🙏🏼

      I totally understand it if there won’t be a video about it, cause it is still very young and there won‘t be much demand for it or informations/videoclips about it, but it is really fun to play (I think if I wouldn’t play Floorball, I‘d play Smolball).

    It is popular in latin countries, but even more popular in Spain and Portugal. (unless you consider those latin)
    Those are the all time most world cup winners, and latin countries that usually play the sport owe it to being former colonies of either. Italy, together with Argentina complete the 4 most winners historically.

    As I was watching this video (excellent, as always) I was racking my brain to come up with sports you haven't yet covered with a 'rules of' video. I managed to come up with three (apologies if you've already done these):
    1. Real (or royal) tennis;
    2. British indoor court games such as Rugby Fives, Eton Fives, etc.; and...

There is strongman (I like it, even though it's not as old as weightlifting or powerlifting)

      The rest are either niche or obscure, and I have to ascertain whether it's worth my time to do - compared to the returns I'll get.

    Roller hockey/ rink hockey ,
    I have never heard of it before but the goal posts and field of play looks way to small than field hockey and surprisingly there are no outs like soccer/ football like if ball going out of playing area.
    The court resembles basketball court (atleast the floor).

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The goal is significantly smaller than any other version of hockey.
