  • A Look at my 2005 BMW F650CS. I talk about some of the features, history, and what it's like living with the bike.
    This bike shares the 652cc Rotax Single Cylinder motor with the F650GS and little else. It was the 1st ever belt drive bike made by BMW. The drive train is similar to the one used on the newer F800ST and F800GT models. Like many BMW models it was available in a "low" version with a thinner seat, different rear suspension linkage, and slightly lower profile rear tire.
    I've put over 10,000 miles on this bike since I bought it in late 2010. It's an every day runner and a weekend getaway machine. I've done some light camping on it and some weekend jaunts. I'm looking forward to finding time to make a real trip on it.
    If you have any questions about the bike or want to see something else on it post it in the comments.

    Many thanks for your comments !!! I bought a 2003 second hand F650CS in NY/NY although I live in the Tropics on a 90 square-kilometers island where I can ride my bike 330 days a year. I bought in 2005 & kept it 'till 2017. My lady much preferred, as passenger, my former BMW than my current 2010 Yamaha MT03 660cc single cylinder engine which is more of a fun bike 😄😄😄

    Bought my 2002 CS last week. Rode it back 250 miles (the long way!) from York to Manchester, UK. No problem holding 80mph and overall mileage was 78 per UK gallon which is around 65 per US gallon. That was with massive Krauser panniers fitted, too. This is a super single.

    you can change the headlight in about 3 minutes from under it. no need to take any screws out.

    Best bike and so practical it just did not sell. Sad that there wasn't a large aftermarket for it

    Just got a 2003 single spark. THANKS for all the info! I'm a beginner (at age 60!), and, so far, doesn't appear to daunting or too powerful for a noob.

    Wozza the belt can last as long as the bike as long as it does not get damaged. They last much longer than a chain.

    If you were to hit the highway for a long (1000 mile) ride, how fast would you reasonably push a CS? What kind of mileage do you get? The F650GS is famous for great mileage. Is the CS as good? Great video, thanks!

    Great Review!
    I just picked one up and as I was driving off the lot the side panel blew off. How did you attach the screws to your side panels? My stock headlight is pretty good, but would've liked to see your aftermarket HID light.Thanks for the start procedure.

      +Vince Alton I just used a finishing screw and screwed those side covers onto the main panel, Like this:

    I just got one of these from 2002. Just in case i ever need to, is there an easy way to charge the battery or jump start the bike?

    • @travatron4000
      @travatron4000  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jon doe The battery is kind of tucked away. It's easiest if you get a battery tender and use the connection cable that comes with it. I eventually got the smallest form factor Shorai Lithium battery just so it was easier to get in and out.

    Quick question. I am thinking of buying a 2003 for Los Angeles to get around. I found your video extremely informative. But is it a pain to keep the battery on a trickle charger when I am not there? It feels I have to take apart the bike from your video.

    • @travatron4000
      @travatron4000  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Just hook up the Pig tail with the SAE connector and run it under the seat. You can see the battery tender cable under the seat if you look close in the video about 2:30. If you want to use Jumper Cable style alligator clips it will be difficult as you can't reach the positive terminal with the battery in place.

      Very helpful. Thanks dude. Almost made me go with another bike because I didn't want to deal with the drama of keeping the battery charged.

      All my bikes get one of these and the live on a tender when they're parked at home.

      I used these type of standard hardware store finishing screws:
