This is really great stuff - just received my AVM 70 last week but a couple things to notice per Anthem website “bass from your speakers is only redirected to the subwoofer if you select “Send bass to the sub.”” Also based on Anthem high frequency extension also affects LFE “This control only affects the upper limit to which the subwoofer plays and is essential when a sub is reproducing an LFE (0.1) track.” Found this under the ARC genesis website - may have not been available when you made the video - btw really appreciate your videos. They were a big factor in my decision to go with Anthem - thank you!!
Calibration is great but I always tell everyone that's just a starting point...I never get the perfect sound using calibration software...but it definitely sets you in the right path. After calibration, you still need to customize frequency settings to dial it in just right. My current problem is, that my Surround Rear can't go low enough to properly mesh with the subs, I have ordered beefier Speakers and thing that will fix the problem. A little tidbit I can offer: if you use Audyssey XT32 and have the app, you should try to forego using DynEQ and create a custom curve instead. What worked for me was editing the curves for all Speakers so that they rise steeply from 200Hz to 100Hz, resulting in a + of 5db at 100Hz and then a slight rise of another 1-2Hz all the way down to 20 (or wherever your Speaker is crossed over, so in my case it is +6db at 60Hz). Then add about 6-8db to the Subwoofer Volume and you should have a pretty good result. It's a little fiddly, but worth the effort!
Have the Polk LSIM 707 ,706C and 702 surrounds all crossed at 90, 4 small in wall speakers used as atmos- presence speakers crossed at 100. The subs have their own app to make tons of adjustments. I reset those settings before running ARC. most of the settings double up on what anthem already has
Did you end up applying a house curve? If we’re using Marantz, we can’t apply separate crossovers for the speakers, only the subwoofer crossover for that channel. Should we set to Large and apply the roll off using the Audyssey app? Thoughts?
Depending on the level of audessey you have, yes you can. But if you have a lower trim of audessey you'll have to keep it simple and set speak to small, crossover the speakers to what sounds great and then set your subs accordingly.
With Audyssey's recommendation, set your speakers to small. On the Marantz, you only have the one crossover choice for the sub channel (besides LFE (leave at 120 as instructed)) so you can either ear adjust after calibration (if you're not satisfied) or double check the sub output with a sound level meter to double check accuracy from your seating position.
How do you like the pb4000s? Were they difficult to move into your apartment? Maybe you had help....I’ve been considering buying two and don’t have help moving them from the delivery truck to my listening room.
In the box it's easy to slide.. if you have steps, if you wanna do it correctly you'll need a dolly BUT the box is so tightly packaged you could tumble it up the steps. Out of the box you WILL NOT be able to lift it on your own but furniture sliders are good
I ran the sub configurator on SVS’s website and they recommended the pb 6000s for my reference premier surround system lol, obviously those would be way overkill wouldn’t they? In your opinion of course...
It all comes down to room size. If your room isn't very big then you wouldn't need anything bigger than the pb3000s. The only difference I would make if I could go back would be buying the PC4000s instead. Opens up more placement options and makes moving them easier. Also, back then I was far more into home theater but now I'm an even 50/50 music and movies so if I could do it again I'd still buy svs but when I do, do it again I'll definitely be looking elsewhere. Not because the pb4000s aren't Good but because I don't want to be stuck to one brand. With all that being said the pb4000s will stay with me for years and years
@@Kpaceguy right on, thanks for your input! My room is 20’ by 20’ and I’ve been considering the sealed version as well. I’m mostly movies over music right now 70/30, so I’m not sure I guess lol. Keep up the good work man! 👍🏻👍🏻
You have to manually set your distances which will set delays accordingly. Anthem seems to not want to play the guessing game and assumes the average Joe will be more accurate
@@Kpaceguy that’s odd. I guess I’ll run Dirac and write everything down. I know multiple subs with MiniDSPs are very difficult to get proper timing. Once the signal is summed then it’s a “virtual sub” somewhere in the room.
@@Kpaceguy good point. I’m just super surprised. Have you heard Dirac at all? I have an NAD 758v3. It’s really nice but buggy enough to where I can’t trust it. In fact most of the Dirac AVRs are super buggy (no fault of Dirac). It makes the bass anemic but it sounds super clean and has a very wide soundstage. It’s pretty surreal. I’m looking to try ARC but anthem is sold out until May of this year.
Great info. Cascading crossovers I think is the technical term. You can play with this more, in terms of the crossover slope and even the LFE frequency. It is said that whilst the LFE channel does go up to 120hz, it very rarely uses that high a range and reducing that down to 90hz can add more of what you want and has the potential effect of increasing clarity in the center channel for movies. Might be an interesting experiment and video in future.
reducing LPF for LFE will not bring clarity to the center channel. You use the speaker crossover for that, which is acually bass management. If bass muddy up your center speaker then you should really EQ the problematic frequencies. Not by robbing your LFE channel of signal information.
@@droidzhunterz6861that’s what you’d think but in reality, that’s not what happens. The LFE channel will still be playing the very minimal signal info it gets at those frequencies, just at a second order slope so it’s not like it’s a huge loss of information ; it’s gonna be around -3db by 120hz on that slope of a signal that maybe gets about 5% of the actual LFE frequencies. Of course you can tell me all about it without trying it for yourself of course...
OK 👌 I need help! So I have a yamaha nssw300 sub and yamaha NSF51 mains (budget and wife I know) my mains can go down to 43hz my sub down to 20hz. What the he'll should I set my crossovers at? I have mains at 80 and sub set 120 lfe, I watch a lot of movies and TV
This can get frustrating. I set my system up with a decibel meter so it’s at the same volume and matches. Watching a movie it sounds like my local theater. Bass is not flat nor is it overwhelming. I can inly feel it during an explosion. Listening to music it seems kind of flat. Everything is crossed over at 80 hz per THX recommendations.
I'm running klipsch F3 as my fronts with 2 definitive technology prosub 1000's , they are currently crossed over at 80hz being ran by a Yamaha RXA-1040 Aventage receiver. What xover should I set the tower's at and should they be set to large or small? Currently at small. Thanks.
Hi Kpaceguy, I really like your channel, especially the way you explain things.I tried to follow your guidance on setting up my LFE.I have a yamaha aventage A3080 and could not find the subwoofer LFE menu option. Please help. I biamped the FRONT. External amp is ATI 1807. My speakers are older model B&W 603 S3 at FL and FR, are they good to set the crossover at 60hz, LCR60 S3 CENTER at 80hz, and 601 S3 at 80hz? 2 front L, R subs SVS PD12 NSD 400w crossover was set all the way to the right(LFE). What do you think about my setup? Please give comment. I am still trying to to figure things out. BTW, I love your Canton vento, love the way they sound. Nobody carry those here in the US.I would love to get my hands on those.

I purchased the OSD Nero 5.1 based on your recommendation. I am hooking it up with the Sunfire TGP5. I noticed that you have gone with the Anthem processor amp. Which model?

That punch is missing after applying room equalisation. Thanks for the nice Video... You are very fast and upto point.
Oh No Bro...I bought a AVM 70 cause of than MCA 525, you suggested JVC to me , I got that too. I was thinking of these subwoofers. What is the size of your room. Parasound amp as well it is better than Anthem.
Hey man, hoping to get some thoughts on what to do in my situation here. I have a dedicated HT room (12x19) and I am looking to get a 133" diagonal 2:35:1 screen. But that leaves me with only 9.5 inches on either side of the screen. So my options are to either reduce the size of the screen to 125" (not ideal) or to get a narrower set of FR speakers. Originally I wanted to get the SvS Pinnacles but now I am wondering if I get 2 SVS PB3000's as planned do I even need these tower speakers? I could simply pick the SVS ultra bookshelf speakers for Front and Right and be good right? Will I miss not having the towers if I go this route? Appreciate any feedback and thoughts on what to do here..
You won't miss the towers. The choice of subs will far more than fill out the low end. The room isn't big enough that those bookshelves can't handle the space. I'd probably get a 3ch amp for the front 3 speakers though.
I have paradigm studio 80's for mains SVS PB2000 sub a marantz SR7005 AVR. LFE set to 120 Hz, mains crossing at 60, center 80, surrounds 90hz. Can't find a sub crossover in my marantz. I'm only hearing LFE effects no regular bass sounds until major cash or booming explosion !
Thanks for the video, I needed something like this, pretty lost in the ARC settings after the correction is done tbh. I did notice that ARC thinks any base is too much base! I ended up having to crank the knob on the back of the subs after doing the correction in order to get any base at all. It sounds great, but now I have that junkie itch that's telling me it can somehow be better if I can get ARC to play along the way it's supposed to. I'm using Definitive Tech BP8060-ST front towers that have built in powered subs in the towers. Definitive tech tells you NOT to use the LFE port (that it's just there for marketing wank), but if I don't, then my MRX740 thinks there's no sub, and the software doesn't seem to have a place where you can set the speakers to "large" or "small". I ended up just using the LFE port anyway and telling the receiver that I have two subs. What would you do in my shoes?
When ARC Genesis is playing test tones, is there a way to set the volume? I don't see any controls in the software to set it to something like 80 to 90 dB. My sensitive speakers are playing very loud with the default settings. Thanks.
@@Kpaceguy Thanks for confirming... To bad, they have got to change that. I got my AVM 70 yesterday. I noticed an interesting behavior listening to music in multi channel surround I wonder if you can confirm. If I increase my subwoofer distance from 10' to 10'2" some additional signal comes out of the center channel. Going back to 10'4" it goes away, 10'6" nothing, 10'8" the extra signal in the center comes back again. It only happens at 2" and 8". Do you hear that also? I reported it to Anthem, maybe it's a bug? Thanks again!
@@jasoncooper9379 probably not a bug. Probably making up for the distance between one speaker and another. But I don't listen to music in anything but 2ch so I'm not sure
Best way to do that is if your av or processor have multiple preset that you can use separately for both movie and music if not it would be almost impossible to get a good setup on the sub for both movie and music
Is there a reason you have it set to correct to 500Hz only? I'm new to this room correction stuff. I noticed it's defaulted at 5kHz. I thought correction should be along the full spectrum. I pushed mine up to 15k. Also I wonder if mic placement on position 2 and 3 make a difference on how wide the sound stage is. My old onkyo has a nice wide spacious sound that the anthem lacks. I'm kind of frustrated with the sound from the anthem for 2 channel. I do love the simplicity of the anthem though and i hope i can get the sound i'm looking for out of it. It doesn't sound terrible I just think for 3 grand it should sound stellar for both 2 channel and surround.
I've managed to get that stellar sound so far with tons of tweaking. I did 5 listening positions just to help give anthem a much bigger chance of identifying any issues and making sure my entire couch is a sweet spot. I have the correction cut off to 500 because it's really the bass notes that the room plays with. Anything higher changes the color of my speakers and with my cantons that's the exact opposite of what I want.
Bro i need your help.. Can we actually fix audio in movies because when actors talking with each other their dialogue delivery sound very low.. and then sounds effects comin.. boom boom. boom.. need to reduce the sound.. by reducing sound.. vocals are not hearing clearly.. How to fix an Equalizer settings.. Can you make a video on that... much needed video for me or any other person searching for fix with this problem.
Adjusting the subwoofer can be a real PAIN I keep all my speakers at 80hr and the subwoofer at 60hr and sounds great for movies but when listening to two channel music the bass gets to boomy and have to do more adjusting to tone it in right if only i could find a sub that would suit both movies and music.🔧🔧
Nice video... I made some changes... wish I could figure out how to include a photo of my settings, as mine are all individual. Klipsch speakers RF7s@60, RC7@80, RS35s@120, RB35@100, RP500SA@100, RP140SS@150.
Been there. Setting up my Rel T7 I subwoofers, I had the same problem and ended up at the same point with a crossover at 50 Hz. Canton Vento 896.2 speakers
Edit: Ignore this part, just the last paragraph. You had muddy bass from 80hz to 200hz but your crossover is at 50hz ? The idea of a crossover is that if you set it at 50hz (2nd order), the subwoofer will play 50hz at -6db and your speakers will play 50hz at -6db, so when both are playing a 50hz note, its not overpowering. If you can set a different crossover point for both speakers and subs then you have problems, like you describe, both playing the same frequancies overpowering. The same thing LFE + Main does, it creates only problems. It doesn't make any sense to have a different crossover for the LR and a different crossover for the sub. They have to match. I'm super confused how you subwoofer is actually playing 180hz when you set the crossover to be at 50hz. 9:55 accoustic treatment won't help under 200hz. wavelengths are soo long, you need panels the size of a fridge. 10:40. Wait, did you EQ each speaker first ? If those graphs are after EQ, holy moly. Your LR have a 10-15 peek at 50hz which the auto EQ should remove, also your subs both have really strong gain from 50hz and up which EQ should be able to bring down to level it. I think your problem is no the crossover, but everything is not EQed.
I think you missed the beginning of this video..I was getting bad bass because anthem had it set at 170hz. I'm not showing you what I've changed it to, to fix that
Movie settings and music settings need to be completely separated and it can only happen if your have multiple presets then you can fine turn from there
@@Kpaceguy how does it compare to the Marantz processor you had? I’m thinking of getting the AVM90, but before I go all out I need to know how it compares to Marantz. I currently own the Marantz SR6014.
Ok I tried it but where I'm listening from the sound is better when I don't use the PB 4000. When I use the klipsch RP 8000F the sound is great . But when I used the sub the bass is lost and you hear the doors etc but I don't really hear the bass .. Sub turned of the bass is back I set the denon in L/r bypass and the sound is great.. What the fluck is going here ..
Room is 4.5 meter by 5 meter .. When I had the couch against the wall the sound was perfect . Now the couch is in the middle of the room and I can't find the bass anymore
Means you're having phase issues and your seating position is sitting in a null meaning it's not an ideal spot for bass. Sitting in the middle of a room is typically a bad idea
Why crossovers are so hard for some of us. Take a musician he or she knows how to tune there instrument. Because they know their instruments they know about music. But when it comes to setting crossovers we really don't know what is the right settings because we are not experts in this field. I've had my crossovers everywhere and nothing seems right🤷🏻♂️

Does the Anthem set the time alignments too? Audessy and Dirac set the delays (distances). I didn’t see that on the anthem
@@joek6207 that and subs with wireless adapters like Both of mine
@@Kpaceguy good point. I’m just super surprised. Have you heard Dirac at all? I have an NAD 758v3. It’s really nice but buggy enough to where I can’t trust it. In fact most of the Dirac AVRs are super buggy (no fault of Dirac). It makes the bass anemic but it sounds super clean and has a very wide soundstage. It’s pretty surreal. I’m looking to try ARC but anthem is sold out until May of this year.

Tried, worked for me thanks.
It is better to have 2x10” or 1x12”?

Sub at 120hz speakers at 60
This can get frustrating.
Thanks.

I purchased the OSD Nero 5.1 based on your recommendation. I am hooking it up with the Sunfire TGP5. I noticed that you have gone with the Anthem processor amp. Which model?
AVM70
I am also considering one at eBay. Can you review it, please! Also, did you hook it up with the OSD?

Gotta send it in for an episode of subscriber showcase!
Setting the crossover on our front speakers to off or none and Setting the curve to flat is the same as setting them "large"
@@Kpaceguy Oooh, okay, thanks, I'll give that a try!
My crossover settings on my subs are around 95hz to little or to much bass is not ideal for me,I'm in a small bedroom 12 by 15 ish
When ARC Genesis is playing test tones, is there a way to set the volume? I don't see any controls in the software to set it to something like 80 to 90 dB. My sensitive speakers are playing very loud with the default settings. Thanks.
No. It's just loud

Been there. Setting up my Rel T7 I subwoofers, I had the same problem and ended up at the same point with a crossover at 50 Hz. Canton Vento 896.2 speakers
Wow haha that's pretty cool
I’m going to try different crossover and here if it makes a difference, , thanks for the advice
I'm not showing you what I've changed it to, to fix that
Subwoofer calibration is a serious pain in the ars. I run three subs in my home theater and I have spent countless hours integrating them.
It's a battle for sure

Ok I tried it but where I'm listening from the sound is better when I don't use the PB 4000.
When I use the klipsch RP 8000F the sound is great . But when I used the sub the bass is lost and you hear the doors etc but I don't really hear the bass ..

How did you find ARC handled multiple subs?
It did very well. Crossover was far too high but the sound is excellent

Why crossovers are so hard for some of us. Take a musician he or she knows how to tune there instrument. Because they know their instruments they know about music. But when it comes to setting crossovers we really don't know what is the right settings because we are not experts in this field. I've had my crossovers everywhere and nothing seems right🤷🏻♂️
Okay so the starting point would be the Denon 2400 running on Klipsch with the subwoofer of the same name 10 in.
The tower speakers are Klipsch F 200.
No way the Cantons have usable output to 25hz,I'm sure they play something down there, but it would be way down in output
