In the world of sports particularly bowling their's always going to be grips and complaints about fairness....lefties, two-handers, urethane, handicap, no-thumb, wrist harness/strap, weight block (banned).....even if you were to eliminate one of these, people are still going to complain about the others...2 handers have been around for over 30 yrs now, its nothing new or innovative...being upset because they throw a ball down the lane differently with more success is ridiculous. We bowlers even complained about the fairness of reactive balls when they were introduced in the early 90s...so in short we're never going to become an Olympic sport because we cry and complain about every single thing 😂
But doesn't every sport have its share of complaints about rules, players, the environment, etc.? Maybe bowling should be simpler and more straightforward? One ball, one lane, one pattern, and whoever scores the most without crossing the foul line in ten frames wins? 🤣🤣🤣
1. Since early days of Bowling all bowlers used a plain rubber ball with a non-dynamic label layout. Bowling was about the bowler, not the ball. 2. One of the greatest arts and challenges of bowling is the thumb release. This is one of the main factors that makes bowling hard. By going two-handed or one handed thumbless, this art of the thumb release is eliminated thus reducing the difficulty of bowling. 3. Urethane bowling balls do not get softer. They only measure softer due to oil absorption into their cover which lubricates them causing the durometer needle to more easily penetrate them and show a lower hardness reading. If the same ball that measures softer is resurfaced and deoiled with 100% isopropyl it will measure back to the hardness it had before it was thrown down the lane.
Thank you for the knowledge! So do you support the recent changes proposed by the EBF? Or would you like to see bowling return to its roots with a focus on traditional equipment and techniques?
@@BowlingLife_eu I would like to see Bowling return to its roots with a focus on traditional equipment and techniques. The Bowlers from the "Golden Age of Bowling" mid to late 1960's , used non-dynamic balls on fairly slick and non-reactive lanes which required them to maintain an extremely high level of consistency, accuracy and precision. Creating "area" or "margin of error" was not possible. Bowlers had little to no control over the bowling condition. They could not use oil absorbing balls to break the lane down and make the condition easier and scoring higher. I would like to see a return to this type skill bowling.
Oh boy did this comment age badly. You should maybe check out Joakim Biehl's video ;-) TL;DR Even the "new 78D" balls gets softer. And no, your supposed argument of durometer going haywire because of oil penetrates the outer shell is completely mute and debunked a long time ago. While its true, measurements have been taken after clean and sanding to prove beyond a doubt! The fact is urethanes are getting softer, and hammer is doing a damn good job (better than the competition) with secret sauce to make them so which is whispered and rumoured about behind closed doors ;). Black hammer 72D is the go-to ball 2024 🤣 Fact is this rule is completely trash. If you want a urethane free competition or event, just do what swedes are already doing this year and banning them in certain individual competitions. Not that it will lower the scores because fact is we're still seeing top players cranking 240+ avg over 7-8 series on moderate/semi easy sports patterns. But at least the urethane haters will be happy, maybe... there's always something else to complain about 😂. Slowinski was trying some really interesting specialized anti-urethane and "anti - hold" patterns over in the phillipines... with his comment being it was a great success in its intentions but also really killed angular looks... They're really wacky and basicly force a player to play straight and/or inside and these 45 at dot to 8 at bp lines are killed completely (bye belmo) In the end to actually make this 78D hardness rule apply, you would have to test each ball, for each competition upon entry before competition starts. A player must therefor have a new ball (especially hammer players) for each event as they do get softer, even storms and their sub-owned brands. Its just whack and funny at the same time. This reminds me so much of Formula 1. As a 2hand player myself, i do really respect and applaud a clean 1 hand release/player. Those who do it really well is so smooth like butter. 2 hand players that have the same smooth motion is far and fewer though.
@@TehWin3 Can you please give me a link to the "evidence beyond dispute" that modern urethane balls do get softer from "use" not from chemicals or oil lubricating the durometer? BTW: I have three Hot Cell urethane bowling balls that I have had for years. When I first got them they measured 81 with my durometer. All these years later they still measure 81. Also all my vintage urethane balls, Rhinos and Angles still measure 78 or above and this is after almost 40 years of use.
many tournaments here are useing the 78 rule now and the national league talk about get the 78 rule. thet will make 78rule in 99% all over my country, yes plz
@@BowlingLife_eu Norway, i know the 78 rule have bean used in tournaments in sweeden to. its not in full use yet, but its coming. only this season my center had 4 cups and a second tournament with 78 rule are about start very soon.
PH is one of the greatest balls every created. But is also one of the worst balls ever created just by the fact it forced almost everyone to use it or just take an L. On rule changes, in general they are good thing to have in sports mainly to make things change so the sport can be a sport. Its almost always used as a way to keep the integrity at its purest form as much as possible and about leveling the playing field across multiple factors, in this case sponsors and manufactures.
Urethane balls do get softer with use. More info about the bowling ball hardness research can be found on bowl.com/equipment-specifications/bowling-ball-hardness-research
Banning a ball because it's out performing the competition is just stupid! Like in the states we have a has been on tour diaper rash that complains about urethane. Get with it or get lost pal! In the states we have cry babies that complain about two handers, we'll figure out how to get more revs or figure out your game to match up! Ball bans are stupid. One more thing, bring back weight holes! Make patterns sport and scores will lower
This looks like a bowling alley inside of a commercial building, which is different. The Purple Hammer is a shim wrecker, more than other urethane balls. It also ruined the line for the guy who threw it, the last time I crossed lanes with a guy who had one. 1 hand, 2 hands, it's all bowling. Just because a person is using 2 hands doesn't automatically say they have more revs. Their speed is limited by that shuffle step. ❤ 🎳 Folks who don't like 2 handed bowling haven't tried it and don't understand how fun it is.
Very instructive. I am following you from Mauritius. keep it up
Thank you so much! Glad you found it instructive. Greetings to you in Mauritius!

@@BowlingLife_eu 😂😂😂 you are 200% correct yet I somehow think we'd still complain about fairness unless the lane was re-oiled after every shot
