    Just a heads up to anyone about to do this - if you do not have the riser installed, you're going to have a tough time getting anything 'underneath' to catch the amazing amount of water that will come rushing out. You're going to want a lot of towels ready - like at least half a dozen full-sheet towels - learn from my mistake.

      Hello. We hate to hear you had some difficulty during this process. We want to make the process of maintaining the pump filter as convenient as possible, and we do have instructions on page 21 of the manual as well; if those may be helpful, that’s linked here: spklr.io/6059mQvb .
      We would normally recommend placing a shallow dish or pan under the door as well as towels on the floor. You can remove the pump filter itself slowly in order to control the flow of draining water. You can also temporarily tighten the filter again to stop the flow, if you need to change the dish before it overflows.
      We hope this is helpful. If you have any other concerns we’re always glad to assist, and we’re confident your Combo will serve your laundry needs well for a long time to come.

      @@geappliances My combo is a couple of inches off the floor and even that is not enough room to keep the water from back flowing - despite the fact I am very careful to open the valve slowly. I put a bin top that goes perhaps a quarter inch under the machine to catch the water that flows out between the open spout and pump opening. But there is an area that opens under the machine where the drain spout is, which appears to allow water to flow under the machine when I drain it. Therefore, I have had to resort to putting a piece of foil around the spout to keep as much water out as possible. So even though I can prevent most of the water from going on the floor now, I suspect water is going under the machine due to back-flow. Even if my foil solution is helping to reduce the back-flow, what has the water that went under the machine before I self-engineered this solution done to the machine?

      I have the same issue with an LG washer/dryer combo, when it decides that it can't pump the water out (often) I used to have to drain it into a baking tray like half a dozen times. What I've ended up doing is taking a wet/dry shopvac and sticking the vacuum hose on the drain hose that goes into the drainspout on the wall. It sucks all the water out through the pump/drain hose and leaves the basin empty. It also does a great job cleaning out accumulated junk in the drain hose path. I'm sure GE will swing in here and say that's bad for the pump, but if you're still under warranty just don't mention it to the repair guy.
      The LG washer at least has a little rubber drain hose I can use to slowly empty the basin if I don't want to use the shopvac.

    My unit is 11 months old and the pump stopped working. I made 3 service calls and all were no shows. The final service call the guy showed up on the forth day and said pump failure is a common problem with these if you have dogs. The dog hair somehow gets back into the pump and stops up from moving and it burns up. They release a firmware update for pet mode but this caused mine to fail since it must have blew hair back into the pump causing the failure. My washer has been out of service for a week now and the tech said the pump comes from Illinois and they can’t come back two swap it for two weeks since they need two guys to do the job because the washer weighs 350lbs. I should have stayed away from a first year run. They obviously didn’t test with real wash loads with pet hair. My wife complains about it taking two hours per load also. A regular set of front loaders can do it in less time. The only convenience of this unit is not having to move from washer to dryer and it having to load detergent every load. I am going to sell mine once’s it’s fixed and go back to a regular set. Very disappointed with GE for selling an untested unit that has design flaws for $3k!

      @geappliances  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As mentioned in the video, we recommend placing a towel and a shallow dish under the access panel to catch the water to protect the floor. You can control the amount of water being released by turning the filter cap counterclockwise slowly.

    Pro Tips for users: (1) Use a $5 plastic boot tray to catch the water (2) before unscrewing the drain pump filter, use a piece of foil or Saran Wrap, like the other customer here said to secure the place between the spout and the back of the unit where the water will flow backward. (3) buy a soft brush for scooping out the matted lint at the back of the lint trap receptacle. Do not let that build up or it will result in being unable to close the lint trap and a service call.
    Feedback for GE: I am a user interface designer, and while overall this machine is great there are some definite user interface challenges to consider addressing in future runs.
    A. There is a severe design flaw in the lint trap. The way it is currently designed, lint will get trapped in the back of the unit where most users cannot access it, resulting in matting and eventually failure, and then a service call which will cost you money.
    B. The drain pump filter, spout and drainage process is very flawed. Right now no matter what you do it will backflow underneath the unit. Samsung sells this by using a hose to first do a pre-drain before draining the actual unit. That system has its flaws because gunk builds up in the hose as well, but the spout design does not fully seal, resulting in water that flows backward underneath the unit.
    C. The heat pump fins are way too exposed next to the lint trap. Just through normal use, they are going to get bent. We have only had our unit for 30 days and the heat pump fins are already bent.

    -.- thanks for flooding my upstairs GE. I like the "if you have the washer door close expect substantially more water" part just casually thrown in there. What he means is this. NEVER do this if the washer is in self clean mode EVER. and keep a hand on the nozzle you turn to let the water out. if you see the flow of water is too strong stop! Do not judge it based on past experiences always have a ton of towels at the ready in case things go south. Also as others have said, if it is upstairs, the riser is MANDATORY

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We do not recommend cleaning the pump filter while the unit is in use, as this will cause all the water in the tub to flush out through the pump filter. We encourage you to keep a bowl under the unit while cleaning out the pump filter, to ensure all excess water is caught. Please check that the unit is hooked up to the drainage area correctly as well, to ensure the unit is operating properly.
      Please note, the riser is not required if the unit is installed on the second floor.

    • @TheOpenForum
      @TheOpenForum 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@geappliances please note the first part should be in bold. NEVER clean the pump filter while the unit is in use. As for the second part this is also false but not for what you think. When the unit is upstairs there is a drain hole on the floor to prevent flooding of the unit. This drain hole requires a bedpan the combo washer literally sits on. The problem is there is humanly no way possible to reach the pump filter while the unit is in the bedpan as the lip of the pan covers the entrance. This is true for ALL bedpans. This goes to show you just how low the cleaning location for the pump really is. Please take this into account on the next iteration of this product. I also made a video of this. Please reach out to me privately if you would like the link.

      @geappliances not required but if you don't have the riser you better have a shop vac. This is a design flaw. Even if the unit is off you still have to be very careful while opening the drain. It's hard to close when the water comes gushing out of that hole.....especially with no riser while on the second floor.

    What happens if you don't have a pedestal and you need a drain pan under the unit? What size drain pan will work in a tight space? Will this inhibit your ability to fully open the drain door?

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You do not need a riser under your Combo unit to be able to drain the pump. The access door to the pump drain is fully removable, so you can use any shallow dish when unclogging the pump.

      Even if you have a pedestal, the water leaks into it, then under the unit. I loved this unit, but it is 6 months old and I can't finish a load without an error. I clean the filter out and it just keeps getting worse. The lint buildup is incredibly bad and I'm sure it's something deep in the unit that I will need to pay $1,000 just to have fixed. Our Combo was robustly designed to be fully capable of handling any lint that may make its way past the lint filter and accumulate on surfaces within the filter compartment while still operating with high efficiency. This is why we confidently offer a 5-year warranty on the heat exchanger. In the Owner’s Manual, we recommend periodic, gentle cleaning of the filter compartment using a vacuum with a slim crevice tool attachment or with our Appliance Brush Set (part number PM14X10056). The Combo provides notifications via the unit’s control panel when cleaning of the lint or foam filter is required. Typically, notification for the lint filter occurs every 5 cycles and notification for the foam filter occurs every 50 cycles. Because of the tech-forward design of our Combo, simply following the regular maintenance and maintenance intervals described in the Owner’s Manual will keep your unit running strong for years to come!

      I've had similar problems. I've found that it takes a certain type of maneuvering - carefully turning and pulling - to get the filter to unscrew slowly enough to prevent a flood. I've finally got this process down after doing it about every two weeks since I got the machine in Aug 2023. Once I get the filter out, I clean it as well as the inside of the drain pipe because it's usually dirty and has chunks of lint in it. It also takes a certain amount of finesse to get the thing to screw back in. I'm still working on mastering that.

    GE, you need to fix this issue and this video. If you don’t have the pedestal, you’re basically screwed. Now I have a sheet pan overflowing with gross water, and it’s impossible to lift it up without spilling. Literally two gallons came out for me. This is an unacceptable design flaw. I have a lip on my floor down to where the washer sits and it’s almost impossible to get something in there.
    I have recommended this product to many people, but will now be referring them elsewhere.

      We're sorry to hear about the trouble you had cleaning the pump filter. We do recommend placing a towel under the dish to absorb any spilled water when cleaning the pump filter. However, we will be sure to share your feedback with the proper teams to see how this can be improved on in the future.

      I have a pedestal, and the water just leaks into it and all over the floor when I open the filter. So disgusted right now.

      I set mine on 2x4's it helped distribute the weight and gave me a little lift to get a cookie sheet under it. Also, when I drain the front I do it slowly with a shop vac at the bottom of the plastic guide to suck up the water as it comes out. The pan basically catches what goes all over under it at that point. Hope it helps you out. DO NOT unscrew that plug all the way if you don't know already! Be patient or the time you saved won't be worth the time it takes to clean up the mess!

    1 pint of water (more than half a liter) is a LOT of water coming from a pump filter housing! Certainly by European standards.
    Besides all other reported problems, It seems to me that the spin cycle does not remove enough water from the washer's tank, which would also explain why the drying cycle gets progressively worse. And an accumulation of water causes scaling, which in turn causes a vicious circle of more accumulation of water (and suds, and gunk) and less efficiency. Is there a descaling product for this machine? There should be.
    As a European, I have been used to seeing washer-dryers in many homes for several years -- they have been made and sold for decades. And they never really do the same job as a real dryer, by admission of the owners themselves, besides being real power-hogs. You can optimize the drying process by using a very fast (1200 rpm) spin cycle, but it cannot be applied to all garments, as some may be ruined by too much spinning.
    Ever since the climate has gotten more humid in Europe in general, washer manufacturers have started making standalone electric-powered dryers. And laundry rooms with stacked appliances have replaced washers in the kitchen or bathroom -- obviously if you can pay the very high electric bill that comes with this.

      When removing the pump filter from the Combo, it is normal to catch anywhere from 1 cup to 1 pint (2 cups) of water. You can read more about this on page 21 of the Use and Care Manual (spklr.io/6054v95E).
      The Combo is equipped with multiple spin cycle speeds. The spin cycle can be set to low, medium, high, and max speeds, as well as the option to turn off the spin cycle entirely. This unit does not have a descale cycle, however, there is a self clean cycle which you can read more about on page 20 of the same Use and Care Manual linked above.
      The Combo's maximum spin speed is 1300 RPM's and is quite energy efficient. You can review the Energy Guide for more information on this (spklr.io/6055v951). The Combo provides a 50% more energy efficient drying experience thanks to the Ventless Inverter Heat Pump. Warm, high-speed air extracts moisture from garments to gently dry even large loads fast with less heat.
      With all this being said, the UltraFast Combo has only been tested for use in the United States and Canada. We do not currently have plans to make this unit available internationally, but we are always exploring opportunities to delight potential owners.

    I had the worst mishap with this stupid design. I don’t have a riser and at some point around 6 months of ownership we randomly saw an alert for cleaning the pump filter. I opened the thing pretty quick and water started flowing. I had towels ready but I couldn’t tighten the thing back due to the amount of clogging. When I tell you at least 5-6 GALLONS of water came out I’m not kidding the water was gushing for AT LEAST 10 minutes as my wife and I kept throwing every piece of clothing in the house on it and then wiped and dried the whole laundry room for the next hour. I wish there would be a way to just attach a tube of some kind to the valve or something that you can drain into a sink.

      We appreciate you reaching out about this and are sorry to hear about your experience with your Combo. Please know we recommend cleaning the Drain Pump Filter every 50 cycles or when you are notified by your Combo unit. Additionally, when opening the access door, place a shallow pan or dish under it as well as towels on the floor in front of the Combo to protect the floor. It is normal to catch about a pint of water when the filter is removed. Since you had so much water come out, we recommend that one of our amazing Bodewell technicians come out to further review. Service can be set up here: spklr.io/6057a5rF.

    Do not buy! I had mine just over a year and have the common fault error code 353 that everyone seems to get! What a big loss of $3k 😢

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We know getting an error with your Combo would be concerning, and we want to help. A 353 error usually means the lint filter is clogged, possibly with fabric softener residue. We recommend cleaning the lint filter by separating the foam filter from the plastic mesh screen, rinsing the foam filter with warm water and cleaning the screen using water and a soft bristled brush. After the lint filter is back in place, you should run a Wash & Dry cycle. More details about cleaning the lint filter are available here: spklr.io/6051tr7V .
      If the error doesn’t disappear afterward, you may want to try disconnecting the unit from power for a couple of minutes; this resets the electrical components and can often resolve a temporary error. If you continue to have trouble, please send us a private message over our social media (such as Facebook or Instagram). We would be happy to review your situation further.
