I love how you are embracing, in your words, the rambling mess of the clover alongside your beautiful ranunculus bed. I hadn’t thought of eucalyptus as a rarer commodity, currently struggling with the yearly shedding of gums on my property ugh! I’ve not commented before but have followed along now for some time, am loving the beautification of areas, one small bit at a time 🥰
Our ranunculus came on beautifully this season and then we had almost 2 weeks of hot NW winds which blew them out and the tulips. Today I am busy digging up the ranunculus and getting them ready for storage. Last week I got to go to the big dig at Floriade and dug up hundreds of corms which are now drying so that I can increase them next season. My daughter came with me and helped me to cut all of the stems off so that we could bring home all of the flowers and put some into vases around the house. As we went through all of the areas where people had been digging and pulling out the flowers we got an entire bag of the seed pods which I currently have drying. Im hoping that they will have been germinated by the thousands of bees that visited floriade too. Im hoping that we do get fertilised seed from this process as I have some magical plans for these around the blackened trees here on our property from the bushfires. It’s a busy time sowing seed, transplanting our vegetable seedlings and picking strawberries from our strawberry farm. So much to do and just not enough hours in a day at the moment. Your ranunculus are just beautiful keep enjoying those beautiful blooms 🥰
Good morning Phaedra, planter boxes are the best way to go with Ranunculus I have done this for the last three years then I rotate and take out my Ranunculus and plant Zinnias. I bit the bullet and purchased Florets Zinnias which are expensive and have seen comments from American customers that they are disappointed with their performance. I hope we don’t have the same results, we shall see.
Oh zinnias could have been nice in my planters. I’m not sure they would get enough sun in my spot but maybe when I build more. I have some Floret Zinnias too, I’m waiting for the weather to warm up a bit more.. I really hope they grow well for us and are nice!
Mine have grown true to type. It may depend where you get your seed from though. You will see flowers in your second year (sometimes tiny ones in the first year). I leave them in deeper seed trays for their entire first year while they are small so it doesn't take up much room or much effort to see those first flowers and see how they turned out!
💖🌺💖 creating beautiful little spaces

Hello! Thankyou for commenting! In other parts of the world Eucalyptus is grown as an Annual!! For the foliage. It seems crazy to me!

i would love to know how growing from seed went - i've always been a bit concerned that they won't grow true to type
