Their cover of Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones has stayed on my playlist for 30 years.
Same here
yep, same here. well, i love all their songs, truth be told, but their "Wild Horses" is sublime.
Same!
One of the best covers ever along with Echo and the Bunnymen covering People are Strange.
Their version of wild hoses is a must listen i love it better than the original
Her voice is heavenly. Their song Summertime is such a feel good song, and it makes me happier every time I hear it.
I grew up on punk, Led Zep, Van Halen, but I was enchanted when this song came out in 1990 and bought the cassette. That particular cassette is long gone, but I still regularly listen to the Sundays, particularly this album: "Readin, Writin, Arithmetic"- timeless haunting beauty. Although slightly different vibes, they remind me of Mazzy Star, in that I still listen to them decades later, and every song is chill and beautiful.
You stole my comment! However I did find my cassette recently, my adult daughter had it!
ha...she has a player to listen?

Same here, this was the only “soft rock” CD I ever bought. I still have it, over 30 years later.
The album this is from, "Reading, Writing & Arithmetic" was The Sundays' best album, in my opinion and I agree that Harriet Wheeler's voice is angelic. A great song and great reaction, Polo.
I love Static and Silence
@@jenniferambrose5603 I agree that was a great album. "Summertime" is a perennial favorite on my Summer playlist.
Awwww Polo! Now you're getting to the sweet stuff. The Sundays may have only been around for Three albums but, they sure are three of the loveliest albums ever recorded.. Thanks for this sweet reaction. Sent ya, a few buy me a coffee requests. (but I know ya got loads of them) But I'd love to see you react to Cocteau Twins, a band that was a huge influence on groups like The Sundays.
Anyways thanks for this reaction... Made my Sunday 🖤
Her voice is like the the first day of spring. You are walking through a meadow and all the plants, trees, and animals are singing to your soul.
Such an underappreciated band. I love this album so much❤
Underappreciated largely, but properly respected and revered by the people who know.
There's a special place in my mind where I keep my prized collection of pleasant childhood memories, and in the background I can hear Harriet Wheeler's innocent childlike voice.
‘Some people’s voice just makes your heart smile’
Thanks Polo. That’s why you’re legit.
Be proud of it, polo! Harriet's voice is beautiful, ethereal and filled with happiness and sunshine.
Maybe if Karen carpenter had a daughter, it would have been Harriet.
I love the Sundays. Try "cant be sure" from the same album.
ATTENTION. I DO NOT have a telegram there are imposters in the comments, please don't fall for SPAM IN THE COMMENTS.

This song does take me back, too. It reminds me of when I lived in center city and would walk to the local diner on a sunday and have an omlette with toast, coffee and read the sunday paper
I read an interview with Harriet from a few years ago. She said after the group ended, she started working in a bakery, and periodically fans would come in and discuss the music with her.
What article was this in?
@wesleyburton7817 I just did some searching and couldn't find it, but some good articles pop up that are worth a read.
Can't be sure has to be next. Harriet wheeler voice is amazing. I listen to this album regularly
My sister loved Harriet and the Sundays. She is gone now, but this song always brings her back to me. Thanks
Still listening to them almost daily 30 years later.
You’re right, it takes me back every time.
I first heard this song in 1992 or 3 - since that moment Harriet Wheeler has been my absolute favourite vocalist of all time, and still is to this day. They gave us 3 glorious albums, wish there had been many more. Just so beautiful.
You have to listen to Cry by the sundays. Beautiful song. Her voice is lovely. Thanks for the reaction of one of my favorite bands. ❤
Lovely indeed! one of my favorites ever.
Man, if this Viking-looking bearded guy can be seen singing along to Chaka Kahn while driving around, you can be seen singing along to Sundays. Much love. 🧡
I'm a punk rock disney mom who also listens to Broadway musicals and gangster rap. Do you! ❤️
I love this comment!!! Rock on guys!
Great reaction Polo. "I'm embarrassed that I like it", lol. I know exactly what you mean. I played this album loud and proud driving around back in the day. I'd probably roll my windows up for this now, and then enjoy it all the more.
The lyrics are open to wide interpretation - like any good art. They seem profound in an obscure kind of way. They're melancholy but hopeful, and Harriet Wheeler's angelic voice is just so uplifting. According to the hundreds of comments in other forums, people who are trying to recover from a bad experience tend to connect with the lyrics.
Responding to myself, lol. But if you want to check out more Sundays, you can't go wrong with any of these. "On Earth" and "24 hours" are two of my faves. As always with her songwriting, it enhances the listening experience if you have the lyrics.
Skin and Bones
Goodbye
Summertime
You're Not The Only One I Know
My Finest Hour
I Feel
On Earth
Love
24 Hours
Why would he be embarrassed to like this song? It's a great great great great great great song
If you like this song by The Sundays, check out 'Summertime' by the same band. You'll love it!
That's my happy song! 🙂
And if you like The Sundays, check out The Cocteau Twins. Without them as inspiration this band would’ve never sounded like this. The Sundays is sort of what Cocteau Twins would’ve sounded like if they had the instrumentation of The Smiths.
Ohhhh the wonderful concert they put on in the very early 90's in Chicago. It was an old theater with a ground floor and a balcony level with old fashioned "Boxes"....We were so close that we could see the sweat droplets and the pores in their skin! The sound was incredibly beautiful! Thank you for reacting to this. See what else you might like from The Sundays. There is more
The Sundays are a time machine back to the early/mid 90's .. Mazzy Star as well
Literally transports you back to the 90’s. Love your reactions. So spot on.
Have you seen the video for “You’re Not The Only One” (here on TH-cam)? It’s clips from an obscure movie from the 1960’s. I think it’s a bit ironic, because I’ve long thought that The Sundays Could have done well for themselves if their songs had been released in the early 60’s: Their blend of folk and pop music combined with those introspective lyrics would really done well back then 🤔
Song came out in 1990, growing up on 70s music, i had to wait 10 years for talent to return
This is my requested funeral song.
I love this song. It totally takes me back to the '90s, from the first measure. So perfect. And yes, don't pump this with your windows down, but you can totally sing along with your windows up while you're in the car line waiting for your kid to come out. 😊
You're right about this being a great example of 90s pop. The Sundays, The Smith's, REM, 10,000 Maniacs and several others were known for their distinct guitar sound which became known a "jangle pop" primarily because of the use of Rickenbacker 360/12 guitars. If you like REM and The Sundays, you should check out "Hey Jack Kerouac" by 10,000 Maniacs and "How Soon is Now?" by The Smiths.
Harriet Wheeler's voice is magical, and yes, this song takes me back to my adolescence in the mid-'90s. Check out "Summertime" and their cover of "Wild Horses."
First heard Harriet Wheeler in college back in 92, her voice just grabbed me and all three albums have some great tracks featuring her great range of vocals.
I blast all of their music in the car! 😊
The song Can't be Sure saved my life. I saw them twice. The second time was after Can't Be Sure saved my life. The song kept playing on a loop in my head. The high parts saved my life. Her voice kept giving my heart a jolt. I was able to make it downstairs to my parents' room and told them I needed to go to the Hospital. Thanks to the song I didn't go back to sleep. It was so loud in my head and my heart. Gave me the will to keep fighting to save my life. ❤
There is nothing wrong with admitting you like this song. White girl or not, Harriet and the Sundays are amazing! Say it loud and proud that you like them!
I didn’t expect to see The Sundays on your channel! A favourite album of mine that was the soundtrack to my University days. The sound is also so English and so ‘of its time’.
I used to listen to this 1989 song and album all the time. Glad someone requested it. At the time, I thought of the Sundays sounding a little like a mixture of the Smiths and late-period Cocteau Twins.
Again.. fantastic reaction ! The Sundays take me back to good times ! And there’s no shame in that 🤘🏽
The guitarist is obviously a student of Johnny Marr
Absolutely you can hear Johnny’s influence in this, which is so much not a bad thing at all…
I fell in love for the first find in my life in 1991 in Seattle, she loved the Sundays and shared it with me. My heart got broken 6 months later and all I had left were some photos of us and this beautiful music. I had to learn to play and sing it so I could hold on to those feelings these past 30 years. I guess I fell in love with the lead singer too, just through her voice
Can someone's voice be described as gossamer? Because I'd say that Harriet Wheeler is just about there. I think they only did three albums, but they were foundational to me and even though I found them in the dim dusty past I listen to them to this day. Their debut album imo has their most important work on it, but I would say that if you check out the video for "Summertime" you'll get a nice sense of how inner and outer beauty can intersect with a 90s poppy waveform of happiness.
I loved this band so much, headed back to download this onto my playlist! thanks to the person who recommended this! #thanksforthememories
Harriet will change your life. Next thing you know you’re listening to reactions 33 years later. Glad you enjoyed it. Love the channel.
I can agree that the band captures the 99s a transition time from young adulthood to full blown challenges of adulthood. I found this band album at college bookstore! Check out lush a band from that era too! Cheers
Polo, was thinking the same thing when you mentioned that the song is downright 90’s. Remember how this song always reminded me of the 90’s.
Oh my goodness I absolutely loved the Sundays back in the day and I had this entire album. I’m excited to hear your reaction. I haven’t listened to that song in so long.
I love that song! You should listen to Oingo Boingo!! There are so many great songs from them!! When The Lights Go Out, Weird Science, Dead Man’s Party, or Try To Believe. I can go on and on.
Insanity and War Again are great ones too
I drive with my sunroof open blasting this album. No shame in it man.
3 albums, every one a masterpiece. Harriet has one of the most amazing voices in popular music. Personally, their 2nd album Blind is my favorite. The Wild Horses cover is astounding, but there are so many good songs, you really could just randomly pick one from any album and probably like it. From the R,W & A, Skin and Bones is really unique. You're not the only one is probably the catchiest song, and the Finest Hour is another fan favorite song. The lyrics to these songs are fascinating.
Sundays - Folk Song. It's one of those songs that just puts me in a deep reverie immediately.
Great underrated band. I'm a 70s guy but I spend as much time listening to the Sundays music as I do old favorite rock bands.
got a jangly ,shoegaze, chillwave meets judy collins christine mcvie thing going on...had to be hypervigilant by the mid 90s on my alternative radio station ( work day music) cause youd get caught out in no mans land hoping it was this and it would be the cardigans ...lovefool...which may have been the 6th
highest cause of death im the u.s. in 96
Some songs I love by the Sundays : I kicked a Boy, Skin and Bones, Hideous Towns, I Won, The Finest Hour- Reading, Writing and Arithmetic is a haunting, very beautiful album -I return to it often
Such a great song. Got to see them at the Warfield in San Francisco in 1992 or 1993, forget which year as I saw a lot of acts there then.
"On Earth" is a beautiful, underrated one.
Harriet Wheeler!
You summed it up well - voice of an angel! Love that you can own that you like this song - we stand together per friend.
Cry - one of my favorite vocals of all time. It’s sad, you will love it.
Summertime - more poppy! Opposite of sad.
Loved this , great reaction. If you like women who sound like angels, try Eva Cassidy Over the Rainbow better than the original x
Ohhh, wonderful! LOVED The Sundays in the mid-90's. Harriet Wheeler's voice is just so lovely. "Some peoples' voices just make your hears smile." Perfect read. Exactly how it makes me feel. Thanks!
I still have this CD that I bought in the 90's!
Holy shit! 🧡🧡🧡 this band!
Along with Poe, the Sundays are probably the most underrated musical act of the 1990s. How the hell weren't they huge? The sound was perfect then, and it's even better now.
One of the most beautiful and distinctive voices ever. It's the timbre that's so distinct. My favourite song of theirs is Goodbye, from their second album, which adds gloriously jangly electric guitars to the sound.
Love the Sundays!
You could listen to Tubular Bells in your Forerunner at full volume with no problem.
Beautiful Song
Edie Brickell - Once In A Blue Moon would be the song I would choose as one I can't help loving despite how the song gets me all teary eyed and thinking too much. I have played more times than I care to mention and always at times when I am a bit down. It's not necessarily a song I am embarrassed by because it is very simple, beautiful song but it's one that makes me feel vulnerable and sad about some of the choices I've made.
I'm a hard rock fan/metalhead and I just love this band. Always hoping they'll put out a 4th album.
You're beautiful little smiles at the exact spots we all smiled.... Chillz. So sweet & ethereal.
You are right Polo. Her voice does make my heart smile. Still have the CD when it was released and still play it today.
You do some unreal bands!! The Sunday's were incredible!! Harriet's voice impeccable!! I Won, I Kicked a boy (those two off the same album as this one, which by the way all three of their albums are incredible start to finish) Saw them in concert back in the 90's MESMERIZING!! They stopped because they started a family. Kids ae grown up and they have talked about a comeback,,,Lets hope!!
The album is perfect
Love the Sunday's "love""hope" and "i kicked a boy " and i saw them live a they sounded perfect live
it's that "Dawson's Creek" vibe. GD, we're old.
have you ever heard of Mazzy Star? " Fade Into You" would be a great song to react to. It's totally 90s and is one of those songs that just affect you. Back in early 2005, this song came on the radio as I was driving my work van through the farm country outside of Seattle to pick up my crew chief. We're talking 5 am dark, and mist was hanging off the road and there was a full moon, too. One of the sickest musical experiences of my life. Hope Sandoval has a Voice.
I played the crap out of this album when it came out. Every track is solid.
I am a diehard classic rock and blues man, and I love the Sundays. Absolutely love the way they write music, and Harriet Wheeler has a fantastic voice! The songs “I Won” and “You’re Not The Only One I Know”, off this album, are brilliant tunes! This music just makes me happy to be alive!! You should definitely dive a little more into their catalog..
The Only Exception is definitely some great ear candy, especially Haily Williams voice.
Joy+Sundays=Bliss
I LOVE this band. I have all their albums, have loved them since the 80's. They are the best :) I always thought this would be my funeral song :D
When you want to feel peace, rest from it all without a care in the world on a nice day - The Sundays.
When their first album came out I fell in love with Harriet , not only was she beautiful but a voice like an angel . Unfortunately for me she was already married to the guitarist who also wrote the songs . Their three albums are still brilliant to this day . My favourite is the first , Reading Writing and Arithmetic which is one of the best albums of its time . Never understood why they never got played here in Australia except on public radio .
Love this album. Harriet's voice is sublime! I think you should check out the Cowboy Junkies! They have an AMAZING catalog. Anything off the album The Trinity Sessions is FIRE! It is considered one of the best recordings EVER!
Love your eclectic versatility ✊🏽
i love this song since I first heard it however many years ago. havnt heard it in a minute... good stuff. thnx man
Beautiful! My husband liked it before me 😉 This song is on my playlist. Thanks for checking them out. Now I’ll need to check out more by them.
You have to check out 24 Hours or Medicine or Skin & Bones. Harriette Wheeler has an absolutely pristine, pure voice. She looks as sweet & beautiful as she sounds 🥰
Such a sentimental tune
I’m so excited to see someone review The Sundays! I have all of their albums. They’re one of my favorites of all time ❤
I have all three of their albums.... I was so sad when they decided to disband....
Need more reactors loving on Harriet Wheeler's vocals: The Sundays only released three albums, but they really had something special. Thank you for reacting to this (and maybe check out "Goodbye" or their cover of The Rolling Stones' "White Horses")!
I never would have expected this to be on your radar for a reaction...
A song of my late teens! I always loved this❤
Love this song and the album! Man, this brings me back 👍🏻👍🏻
Harriet's voice is angelic, but what I like most is she is holding a lot of power in reserve. You don't hear it much on this song. Just little hints like in the chorus when she sings "It's that little souvenir" and on 'little' she digs in some. Other songs she hits a little harder and more often. It's very effective the way she holds back on using her stronger chest voice and uses her softer head voice most of the time. That's one of the main reasons I like her so much. Plus love Gavurin's guitar work a lot. Lots of jangly tasty guitar accompaniment. Great band: just a shame they've only done 3 albums.
I LOVED that you listened to this song, and I laughed at your admission of not advertising listening to "white girl music.." LOL! Yeah, it's kind of the definition of "white girl music." I would kind of classify this as dream pop - though others might not. I played this years ago for my much younger roommate and she fell in love with this band. It's a beautiful song.. it's dreamy and buzzy. In fact I remember the band and the tune but can't quite place if they were late 80s or early 90s.. such is their hypnotic, enchanted hold on the listener. Funny that the lyrics talk about a terrible year and yet this song has the feeling of new love and wanting to hold it inside and keep it your secret because it makes you happy - a moment you don't want the world to ruin. The song is very good at projecting this kind of feeling. AND YES!!!! It's VERY VERY 90s. You always give a wonderful reaction. Thank you!!!!!
check out Hamstead Girl by The Dream Academy, another UK band that started having hits in the 90's. The track Love is another great by The Sundays!
Totally solid song.
The album this track came from, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, is worth checking out.
You mentioned a fondness for sad or melancholic songs in one of your REM reactions...has anyone suggested you listen to The Smiths? They were an 80s UK band and most definitely had a reputation (amongst the uneducated) for being depressing. I think you'd like their stuff.
Such happy nostalgia for this one
Please do ride around with this up loud. The young ones don't know it. Beauty should be celebrated, and there's nothing to be ashamed of!!! :P
This whole album is really good
Thanks for reacting to the Sundays! Carn’t be sure should be next
Who are the Sundays ? Just a band that came out a day before The Mondays.......Rock on POLO !!!
90's sound and vibes agree
Not necessarily deep, but still one of my favorite songs from the era. And you go rock this from the Forerunner - I do too, the biker-sized grey ponytail in the jeep. :)
