This album pulled me through some really tough times, I live 50 miles north of Eau Claire Wi, and was fortunate to meet Justin at a show he played to raise money for his high school jazz band, he signed my guitar and got to chat for a few minutes. It is amazing to see what he has gone on to do.
I love this album, it's just soo good. Love seeing Fleet foxes and Bon Iver so close, they really set a standard back when they came onto the scene. I always took Re: Stacks to be him at the end of his time in the cabin, after all the introspection and isolation and heartache. Him realizing that for all his emotional gains he's made since being there and processing everything, after all the reflection, he's not a new man. He still carries his faults with him, he still has a lot to work on, but he sees it now. He sees where he failed as a partner, and where he failed as a person in general. He recognizes how he can fall into depression and anxiety and the tricks it can play on his mind. He realizes he can't do this all alone. He's finding his way back to a better place, his turmoil hasn't tainted his perspective on his ex and the love their shared. He has hope that whatever comes next, he's able to face it, and while there are relationships he may not be able to recover in some form or another, and that's fine, maybe there can be some re-connection. And she's ready to re-join the world again.
Classic album, good to see it get discussed and appreciated by a younger audience. One of my absolute favourite Bon Iver songs is Wisconsin, kind of an unofficial 10th track on For Emma, Forever Ago (a For Emma 'single' anyway). Doesn't really fit on this album to be honest though, but well worth discussing as it's superb. Likewise for the self titled album, the single Best/Rest (Rare Book Room version) is another lesser known gem worth checking out. Great stuff.
This is crazy but i think we were at the same show last year babby. I was right by the stage and it was such a great concert. Re:stacks live was an experience ill never forget, top 10 song of all time for me
All his albums have a diff vibe for sure, i was 3 when it came out and my parents would play it in the car on the way home from long journeys alot, was a tune of my childhood. Falling asleep during a long car drive with this playing in the back will always be a fond memory of mine. However, my fav bon iver song (towers) is on his self titled album. All his music is so close to perfect its unbelievable though.

Anyone who can come up with that kind of imagery "When your eyes are all painted Sinatra blue" is an f-ing genius.
