This is so the valuable oppotunity for everyone. I have never imagined that I will have a chance to learn with the renowned world class professors like this. Thank you for your sharing.
I'm a student from Germany and I really love Coursera. It does not only improve my knowledge in sciences, maths etc. but also my English.Very big Thanks to the Coursera-Team and everyone who participates in this awesome opportunity to make the world a better place :)
Coursera is awesome, remember -- don't enroll to more than one course initially. It is better to check the pace for yourself than drop from the course because you didn't manage to follow the schedule.
It all depends on how persuasive you are. bringing in a portfolio of projects you are working is more valuable than some college diploma. To be honest it depends on the type of company and people you are trying to present your self to and your attitude as well.
i am loving coursera (just finished my first couple lectures and quiz). this is a great opportunity for me because the country where i live in doesn't really offer much education and incompetent staff for some of the courses i need most. thank you coursera :)
Straight from the website: "Does Princeton award credentials or reports regarding my work in this course? Princeton does not award credentials or issue reports for student work in this course. However, Coursera could maintain a record of your score on the assessments and, with your permission, verify that score for authorized parties."
I don't know what you're talking about - I've completed two courses on coursera and the "original" course by Andrew Ng that started the project. The sentence you quoted was taken entirely out of context as it appeared on a brainstorming list by the participating universities and coursera concerning future revenue making; I deem it rather unlikely that it is going to happen, though, (as opposed to the other elements on the list) since it would go against he idea of coursera.
This was my *recommendation*, not an *order*. Despite the courses are free, I am taking them seriously, even for basic reason -- they last at least 2 months. Why should I waste my 2 months on something treated lightly? Anyway, enroll to all courses at the same time, if this pleases you.
I do not see that any lectures are available online, only announces. I read in wikipedia that "after a free trial period tuition would be charged for full access to a course and materials". Is it right that coursera privatizes the knowledge? You steal the courses that otherwise would be free (MIT exposes their courses for free, for instance). Why do you call it "free"? Because you make high quality advertisments of privatized courses?
This is a great idea on several levels! I think that we want to create a society where high level thinking and creating are valued, and ideas like this are monumental. Post-secondary education is out of reach so so many people, so why not give everyone the opportunity to learn? I wonder if they will provide some sort of recognition/certificate for students who have completed courses and want to include it on resumes?
Well it says in the FAQ section "Yes. Students who successfully complete the class will receive a certificate signed by the instructor." So I guess that's something.
This is wonderful I am on the first course Introduction to Finance hope to met with other sing up students on line congratulation and keep up to the expectation promise
There is absolutely no comparison with the invention of the wheel. The best comparison is the creation of human speech that created the wheel. Only joking.
Its always possible to audit a course.. your recommendation not to sign for more courses doesn't seems convincing - it is true that you cannot drop a course - but why should that matter . You are not taking a course in an university which is required to pass the course to get a degree!
To all in Coursera, I've been trying to get online to work on my Coursera courses for two days, with little or no success. Three of them are due to finish on the 7th of July. Is there a workable alternative or solution out there? Thanks!
it would be awesome if you can get some kind of diploma out of this. you can learn everything in life, but no one would believe/hire you or even take you seriously if don't have a diploma.
I congratulate you for this initiative, I've just signed up and I hope it will be a great experience, But it would be better if you could provide us more french courses, by signing with french or canadian universities :) Thank you !

This is something really NEW in education. It's like an invention of the wheel. Keep learning!
Its 2020 and Coursera really changed the face of education worldwide. Kudos!

Your site is a wonderful thing and I hope it makes you all millions of dollars.
Thank you Coursera and University of Toronto. This was an excellent, high quality learning experience. :-) FOR FREE

FREE KNOWLEDGE FOR EVERYONE! That's really, really amazing. Keep working, Coursera.

I'm going to take the Compiler Course, because I'm studying Computer Science. I just can't wait till it starts! :)
It's a shame the courses aren't available to start and finish at any time.
Im very glad I stumbled accross this...
Well it says in the FAQ section "Yes. Students who successfully complete the class will receive a certificate signed by the instructor." So I guess that's something.
Loving the new courses so far!!!!
This is wonderful I am on the first course Introduction to Finance hope to met with other sing up students on line congratulation and keep up to the expectation promise
A very briliant initiative. Keep up the great work!

Coursera is AWESOME!
do you get actual credits for these courses that you can take to a real college?
To all in Coursera, I've been trying to get online to work on my Coursera courses for two days, with little or no success. Three of them are due to finish on the 7th of July. Is there a workable alternative or solution out there? Thanks!
what are the courses to choose from. thank you
Is everything on Coursera free? Or are there things like "premium" content?
Yeap! All courses are free. There isn't a premium account. But some certificates are optional, if you want to take them, then you pay for it.
All this is amazing! Thank you!
DO you think you can get official transcripts from the school?
wooooooooooooooooow. Free Education
Amazing! So cool!
Cool!
Yep, I like your idea) Maybe after that we create the Big wheel=)
it would be awesome if you can get some kind of diploma out of this. you can learn everything in life, but no one would believe/hire you or even take you seriously if don't have a diploma.
