    I ran 2 half marathons and was happy with how I did even being that I have never been a runner my whole life. After my second half marathon which was the beginning of October 2022 I have made it a goal to run a full marathon. I am choosing the Miami Marathon in January 2024 to give myself plenty of time to train. This has given me some great pointers to try to incorporate. Thanks and looking forward to completing this goal...P.S. this marathon with be 4 months before I turn 56...looking forward to finishing this.

    Awesome vid!! Absolutely “nothing new on race day” is probably the best advice that I didn’t adhere to with my first big race-u mentioned fuel, hydration & shoes, which I did practice, but brand new new race kit (singlet & shorts) was my downfall-which resulted in terrible chafing-so I’d also suggest running some training sessions in everything ur planning to wear on race day too, just to make sure all is good!

      @@Kristi-Eramo-OConnell Bugger! Glad to know in a way I wasn’t the only one to make that mistake!! 🤣 It didn’t even occur to me! I’ve also heard of people eating the same breakfast as their favourite runner/triathlete sports person on race day without trying it out beforehand with fairly predictable results. Me, I don’t have anything that is lucky for race day, except for my breakfast🤣always has been the same and will never change I don’t think!

    You are truly amazing Kristi, to me the Fittest on Earth after this effort. Period. I still cannot get over this marathon achievement considering your top tear Crossfit performance. I just ran my first marathon (3:28) so have a good understanding what your time means, and I can barely do a single pull up...😜 UNBELIVEABLE. I challange any other Games athlete - men included - to do this after you. Now you should just try a real pair of runners and you are set for a sub 3:00 for sure 😁

    Highly recommend starting people off with plan that brings them from a 5k --> 10k --> half marathon --> marathon over 2 years. Jumping into marathon training is a intense and a great way to get injured if not attempted properly. I hope no one watching this thinks that 6 weeks is enough training!

    The advice for electrolytes was reassuring. Up until about 8 months ago I never focused much on that. For years I’ve had issues with muscles randomly twitching or even an eyelid twitching. I stated making my own electrolyte drinks twice a day and all that twitching has gone away and my CF workouts have significantly improved.

    Good advice. I'm always impressed when I see athletes with substantial muscle mass running marathons. I've got respect for the skinny endurance machines too, but you are carrying more weight over that distance than the typical marathon body type.

    How do you keep such good internal leg rotation for running when Crossfit has so many movements that require external rotation? Most serious Crossfitters have a hard time with this. But you have somehow managed to maintain a really nice gait.

  • @jayjay0580

    As an advent endurance athlete (marathons, tri-athlons, spartan obstacle courses) weight is very important. Meaning everyone should figure out what their running weight is so NOT to cause injuries mainly on there joints (typically knees, ankles, hips). You want be as light as possible. Participating in CrossFit events is totally different then marathon events in every way. Your body, weight and muscle ratio should be different. Much different.
    Also incorporating yasso800s into your marathon training is a big plus.

  • @andrewkitchenuk

    Crossfit and marathon running seems like a hard combination of sports. Do you not find the additional upper body muscle development from Crossfit detrimental to running that sort of distance?

    At the age of 20, in the USAF, I worked midnight shifts and after our shift was over we played three hours or cut-throat racket-ball five days a week. It was very intense and was a super great aerobic workout. One of my sergeants talked several of us into running a marathon within about a month before the event.
    The first day we ran five miles and the second day of training we ran 10 miles in just under an hour. We worked up to about 17 miles in training. He wanted us to qualify for the Boston Marathon, which meant a time under 3:05.00
    During the race, I got to about twenty miles and we were about one minute behind the time we needed to qualify for Boston. My sergeant started yelling at me to go faster. I tried and then got a bad stitch in my side and had to slow down. I finally finished at about 3:10.00. He finally ran off faster and qualified for Boston. The experience was so irritating that I vowed never to run another marathon. I kept my promise.
    I have run many half-marathons but never another full marathon. Later I learned that the stitch was caused by poor breathing.

    • @Kristi-Eramo-OConnell
      @Kristi-Eramo-OConnell  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I strength trained about 3-4x a week! I stuck to light/moderate percentages and did a ton of single leg work , core work, and glute /hamstring work to make sure my legs were strong for all the impact! I would just focus on good working sets instead of hitting my top end of % or weight for the 3-4 weeks into the Marathon!
