My first two marathons, I only ran once a week as a long run, keeping CrossFit 5 days a week as usual. Stayed injury free, compared to all my runner friends. And got faster each time. Last one was 3:55. Would love to hit 3:30. Kristi, you are such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing!

That is incredible!! Way to go! I was running about 3x per week so a little more than 1x but CF definitely helps keep you injury free!

    Congratulations on PR/PB!
Your fitness clearly carried you through and marathon experience helped.
I'd say being a pro cross fit athlete at top level gave you a very strong foundation for running, not knowing if you were doing long runs of around 25 to 30km plus to add endurance. You do a lot of speedwork in your training. While your physique is more like a sprinter, you have very good distance running form. Distance running sheds weight, which you need for cross fit. Most amateurs wouldn't gain enough of a base to comfortably finish a marathon without long slow distance runs I expect. Fitness is the combination of strength, speed, endurance, flexibility and balance for each activity.
Walking afterwards helps spin out lactic acid and soreness, as does cold water on legs and walks on days after.
    Thanks for sharing your journey.
    Keeps us amateurs inspired.
    Well done again!

Hi Kristi, normally I don't respond so quickly on a video, but as a ocr athlete from the Netherlands (age-group 50+) with a half marathon pr (1:25:25) in my late 40 I find this incredibly strong what you run on a marathon. I never thought that that's was possible with all that upperbody strength/mussels, you proved that I was wrong 😅 For me crossfit was whay to high , that's why I am doing now Hyrox races in winter (last year third place mix doubles 40-49 at European championship) You have opened my eyes to try again and race a marathon, thanks 😊 and good luck with everything 😀

I love how you describe "setting the hook and reeling them in." It's a classic endurance runner game. I miss cross country season(more than 30 years ago for me.) WNY, where I live, is have a great, sloppy fall that is perfect for cross country racing. I loved your explanation of racing(and dogs.)

  • @andrewbrooks1346

    Congrats on the Marathon PR!
I can also attest to how CrossFit training crosses over to other activities. I ran a 5k and a 10k back to back in 2019 (it was a challenge race at the Canadian Army Run in Ottawa, Ontario) after having been fully committed to CrossFit for a bit over a year at that point. I wound up knocking seven minutes off my 5k and 14 minutes off my 10k from the same race in 2018 and set PRs in both distances with very little dedicated run training beforehand. In this case, it probably has a lot to do with 60 lbs that I has lost over the year thanks to my dedication CrossFit and a complete overhaul of my diet.
I'm planning to do the Army Run again in 2023 to see if I can beat these times but this video is making me think I want to give a marathon another try in the not too distant future. Last one I did was New York in 2010 and let's just say my time left a fair bit of room for improvement.

It‘s an amazing feat! Also because so many crossfitters care so much about weightlifting and gymnastics. Running is number one sport all over the place and I love how you show that crossfit, or concurrent training in general, is beneficial in running to. So many people run but don‘t lift. I think this run alone contibutes soo much to the message of crossfit. I‘m in shock and awe.

Well that's just incredible, shows what level you games athletes are on! I just did my own marathon and fell apart unfortunately. My quads seized up about mile 15, a shame since my long runs went to 21 miles and they went fine. I did manage to finish at least, which was a victory with how my legs felt. Took the last two weeks to recover fully (got really sick after too).

Awesome job!! That is so impressive. I totally resonate with you that “CrossFit works.” Last year I ran a 20+ minute PR (3:14) of running just two days per week… the rest was intense indoor bike workouts and conditioning/CrossFit style workouts. Nothing crazy but just goes to show training your other systems is vital, even if it isn’t sport specific. I see sub 3 in your future, I hope to get there soon! All the best!!❤

I started running the first week of September about a 5k a day. Then for the next 6 weeks decided I was going to try and run a marathon so my plan looked slightly different than a normal training plan! I was running 3ish days per week! The last 1.5 weeks I cut my CF down slightly to make sure I wasn't overdoing it and my body had time to recover into the race!

The bit about the being pulled along, passing strategy is what makes the running fun. Applies too to triathlon, and no matter where you are in the field you can 'race' (if you want to) no matter how good an athlete you are. Have got my first Marathon in two weeks... I can't comprehend the 3:04 time though :) How many Crossfiters can run a close to three hour Marathon and how many Marathoners can snatch/deadlift etc what you can? Pretty damn awesome!

    • @cmarnold78
      @cmarnold78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

And even if you have run a half Marathon before it is hard to comprehend the pace... I have only now begun to truly understood and appreciate from getting above the 20 mile mark in training runs I'm not sure what is going to happen beyond that but I know it is going to hurt!

HI, definitely stretch the calves but also foam roll/scrap the shins! Check out the shoes you are wearing and make sure they are no too dead. I use my sidekick tool often on my shins and calves . Start with run/walking and progressively increase weekly! Make sure you are hydrated with electrolytes and not just plain water!

Hi, I use a Garmin EPIX watch! I love it! I am not sponsored by them but it is the best watch I have found and is super easy to work and user friendly!

Amazing! I completed your challenge but I hope the half and full marathon are optional 😂
