I think Ioan Gruffud has the rights to Hornblower, and having played him as a young officer, he's about the right age now to continue on in the books where Hornblower is much older. It would be fantastic to see netflix or amazon or someone pick up a series and give it the sort of production quality of Master and Commander. I think that's the best shot, with plenty of source material to draw on still and the main actor of the previous 8 television films being in the right place at the right time. A sharpe-esque series would also be great, again given that sort of funding and thus production value, but I'm not aware of any great novel series that could be used
Never going to happen. Amazon and Netflix both american companies putting up money for military dramas that don't feature americans as the subject matter? If they ever did they'll ruin it by giving it the "rainbow treatment".
@@fus149hammer5 You never know. I'm not saying it's likely, but look at the Chernobyl miniseries for example. A 5 part series of very high production quality about a very niche subject - so niche in-fact that prior to the series I would never have conceived of discussing it it at even the barest level with friends - and featuring literally 0 Americans. Not only was it made, but it was very highly praised and well received. All it takes is one man with the power to make the decision, to give the go ahead, and something like that comes into being.
The actor that plays Patrick Harper blocked me on twitter because we have very different Irish politics, despite debating for many years. His family were actually an Irish government dynasty. Still, I love harper and love o'malleys performance in sharpe.
Back then the personal honor system was a very serious thing. That's why people dueled and killed each other, to preserve one's honor. To lie about such a thing as rank would be the opposite of what these people valued. It also wouldn't serve any real purpose, as the liar would soon be found out and probably arrested and court marshalled.
It's a type of women's shoe intended for dancing, so an epic insulting name to fling at someone who's meant to be a soldier but is instead just fannying about with some lassies 🤌😅

0:09 The way Harper runs, that drummer boy would be over the hills and far away before he caught up to him.
At 3:10 we once again see the Sergeant's magical foot. He left his leg at Talavera he says, but it seems to have followed close behind him.
I noticed that too...
Thats the healing power of the arrival of the hero of Talevera
I have seen this episode many many times and never till now noticed that!
Couldn't part with it's owner
Major Lennox answered by liking this video! As would you if you had any sense of honour!
"I'm Major Richard Sharpe, South Essex."

We really do need a new "Sharpe" esque series for a new generation. Another Napoleonic adventure maybe even directed by Sean.
Just as long it's not infected with modern sensitivities

Heh. At 3:10, you can see Ted's left foot in a sock. One of the foibles of a low budget production.
Another one is watching the same background actor get killed six different times by six different explosions
tilbury fort looked so well kept then
The red hair officer looks like a certain Royal Prince🇬🇧.

To this day I never understood what second battalion took 400 of, perhaps 'old ones' (ol'n's)‽
400 old muskets
Old'uns Cockney/East London slang for "old ones"
Old muskets - the new ones were kept pristine presumably to sell later (they were selling the recruited soldiers)
Yes, that. They didn’t take any brand new weapons, they took old ones.
In real life I wonder who would have won the confrontation. As Captain Carline would have paid for his Commission.
Money talks.
He might have a cousin at Horse Guards, but then Sharpe is a favourite of both Wellington and the Royals,so I would say it's no contest.
Blind man's bluff? That's not soldering.
I wish the series was easy to find on DVD for the American market. If she's so many of these shorts / clips I want to watch the whole damn thing
