    Unforgettable Fire as an album is their masterpiece. It stands apart unlike any of their others. It was routinely panned when it came out because it was such a glaring departure from the first three albums, but unlike any of their other albums, Unforgettable Fire just seems to seep in under your skin and live there. Mystical, moody and brilliant

      u2 are not about perfection but about a can do spiritual rock band. The album is very atmospheric boogy man and at certain moments very nihilistic, its drops the ball here and there but from beginning to end it takes you on a wonderful journey of other worlds and soundscapes and this barely scratches its surface...its good.

      Oh I agree so much. They may have had so many successes since the. But "A sort of Homecoming" will always be the U2 song that I love the most.

      Music for my last year at high school, warm, sweet and angry. In the noise of 80s syth pop its music stood out indeed.

      NBA2K fan Just one show. But wait, I'm confused now. You said if there are two shows they will usually play it once. When I first saw the setlist for this tour I was so impressed. A Sort of Homecoming and MLK! It's such a shame they were dropped and replaced by Bad, a song they play all the time. I feel like I'm being a bit hard on a band who's members are nearly 60, but I wish we could have heard some other early songs. Maybe straight into Seconds after Sunday Bloody Sunday. Or Wire. The crowd would have gone mental.

    • @jakewhite3132
      @jakewhite3132 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was hoping for MLK too, but the America transition for Homecoming, Bad, and Pride were good. Shame they only felt strangely at home in 8 shows.

    What’s with the sequencer? Edge can play that guitar line and does a little in the song. It would sound looser and more live with just the four of them and some keys filling in the chords in the back.

    • @trippyandthebean5297
      @trippyandthebean5297 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Edge really likes those sequencers. Works brilliantly on BAD; I agree it’s unnecessary for this song.

    • @grahamstuart7497
      @grahamstuart7497 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it allows edge to sing on it...extra voice is nice. I don't like sequence sound.
      I prefer waia version, but admire an attempt here. I think a different synth patch would have helped imho

    i am a massive u2 fan but people who pretend to themselves "his voice sounds great for his age" Is bullshit... it is in tatters, 56, Is not old for a vocalist. his voice has continually changed but the strain he put on his vocals in his 20s-30s shows now. granted i think up until 2009-10 he was doing alright but now he is just yelling to "hit" notes his vocal dexterity is not a shadow on before. Thanks for the great gigs and amazing music but recent live shows... i cringe to listen to :(

    • @ivster12345

      Slightly disagree. Voices deepen with age and Bono’s voice is doing likewise. While his upper register is a shadow of his former days he can still hit those lower notes just not as often in a row or indeed all of the time like some of their classic songs require. His range is still phenomenal and brimming with soul. What a pleasure it has been to grow old with this voice (and band). Ps. I remember listening to a voice coach discuss various famous voices and saying that if you ever see Bono smoking (cigars a la Autchung Baby era) to run up and punch him.

      The only live versions close to the recorded album version were performed in Sept & Oct, 1984, when they first started playing it live. It's been sped up and chopped up ever since, including here. Still glad they're performing at least some version of it again, though.

    • @mikecaldwell3160
      @mikecaldwell3160 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only reason you think the old version was not like the album was because they cut out major verses when they put it on the Wide Awake In America album but during shows they played it exactly like this version minus the synthesizer. I rather have this version then no version at all. You have seen they have already dropped this sing from the tour setlist!! These assholes have no clue what songs people want to hear. This song was the highlight of the concert since it had not been played in so long and these fools go and drop it
