No shit, I just looked it up and there's VBjin on Github which is supposed to run on the Oculus CV1 but I'm pretty certain it'll just do fine on the Vive, Index and Windows Mixed Reality as well. If not natively then through ReVive.

Had the virtual boy, back in the day... I thought it was freaking awesome. It wasn't perfect, but at the time it was a one-of-a-kind. I enjoyed the games, despite the lack of games and unrefined quality. Still LOVED IT! Wish I never woulda got rid of mine... they go for a TON of $$ these days if you can find one.

I was very sad that the virtual boy failed commercially along with the Sega Dreamcast. I would actually buy the failed consoles because they had great games on it. I played the virtual boy and I enjoyed playing the game especially Mario's Tennis. It was cool to see 3D Games in a red and black screen which was cool. Some innovative and creative products in the market which are ahead of their time fail due to bad marketing and sales department actions from their corporate company. Apple for instance also made revolutionary tech products which were ahead of their time like Nintendo which failed during the Steve Jobs era. I think while it may not have been commercially successful fans and collectors would enjoy the experience from the games from the failed consoles.
I am surprised by the technical aspects. It actually works. But I guess it was not really thought through to have 3D in an environment where everything is made up of one color, and actual 3D models don't exist yet. But hey, other 3D concepts didn't exist back then either, so I guess it was worth trying.
I remember playing the Virtual Boy (Mario Tennis) at Blockbuster at age 11, back in 1995-96, it was cool & awful looking the same time. Even though it definitely felt 3D, it was such an eye strain to look at. I’m honestly surprised that Nintendo didn’t try go with a different color, other than red over the black screen (not that it would have been a ton better). I’m glad I wasn’t the only kid or human that couldn’t handle the awfulness of the visual field. It was fun enough to play, but I still preferred the SNES.

Never played Red Alarm but Virtua Force was TOPS. It was also a top down shmup with 2 planes of play Wario Land was AMAZING and had background areas that you could jump to. One of the few that I keep a ROM for for emulation TelroBoxer was awesome and one of the only games that really properly used the mirrored controller AND the 3d ability Panic Bomber was pretty okay. I mean, it was panic bomber. WaterWorld (Yes, a licensed movie tie in game) was pretty dang meh Mario Clash was okay, not my cup of tea but good use of 3d for more complex levels. Golf was... golf. if a little thought had been put to it, the format might not have flopped as badly as it did, and it might have attracted more third party publishers. the games were not the issue. it was the product itself. so there was a street fighter on the virtual boy after all. my ideal games for it would have been megaman: power battle, top gear 3000, virtual bart, samurai showdown 4, power rangers turbo, 19XX, diddy's kong quest, a proper f-zero game like X on n64 or GX on gamecube or the gba game; and a mario platformer like the DS or the 3DS games or the wii U game with luigi in it. maybe a bomberman land game as well.

God this brings back memories from my childhood, first time I used one was when I got one rented from a blockbuster video and the 3D look blew me away. I finally was able to buy one later on, and to have one of these as a kid was absolutely amazing. I had Mario’s tennis and warrio land and warrio was the only game I ever beat. This could of been a great system if Nintendo didn’t bastardize it in favor of the N64, and add color to it. Great video, the nostalgia is amazing!
Oh man this brings me back. When Virtual Boy came out I knew it was something my family would not be able to afford but every time we hit the store with a demo display 11 year old me would ditch my parents and spend an entirely inappropriate amount of time with that thing on my head. The motion sickness induced by the wireframe graphics on the Star Fox demo was real.

Had the virtual boy, back in the day... I thought it was freaking awesome. It wasn't perfect, but at the time it was a one-of-a-kind. I enjoyed the games, despite the lack of games and unrefined quality. Still LOVED IT! Wish I never woulda got rid of mine... they go for a TON of $$ these days if you can find one.

I was very sad that the virtual boy failed commercially along with the Sega Dreamcast. I would actually buy the failed consoles because they had great games on it. I played the virtual boy and I enjoyed playing the game especially Mario's Tennis. It was cool to see 3D Games in a red and black screen which was cool. Some innovative and creative products in the market which are ahead of their time fail due to bad marketing and sales department actions from their corporate company. Apple for instance also made revolutionary tech products which were ahead of their time like Nintendo which failed during the Steve Jobs era. I think while it may not have been commercially successful fans and collectors would enjoy the experience from the games from the failed consoles.

But I guess it was not really thought through to have 3D in an environment where everything is made up of one color, and actual 3D models don't exist yet.
But hey, other 3D concepts didn't exist back then either, so I guess it was worth trying.

I remember playing the Virtual Boy (Mario Tennis) at Blockbuster at age 11, back in 1995-96, it was cool & awful looking the same time. Even though it definitely felt 3D, it was such an eye strain to look at. I’m honestly surprised that Nintendo didn’t try go with a different color, other than red over the black screen (not that it would have been a ton better). I’m glad I wasn’t the only kid or human that couldn’t handle the awfulness of the visual field. It was fun enough to play, but I still preferred the SNES.
You guys missed the best game for the virtual boy: STARFOX. It felt designed for the 3d effect.

@@serraramayfield9230 Yeah, it was Red Alarm. I had the same issues he had with not being able to tell what was a wall. Still, I'd never played anything like it, with the 3D-ness of it.
Never played Red Alarm but Virtua Force was TOPS.
It was also a top down shmup with 2 planes of play
Wario Land was AMAZING and had background areas that you could jump to. One of the few that I keep a ROM for for emulation
TelroBoxer was awesome and one of the only games that really properly used the mirrored controller AND the 3d ability
Panic Bomber was pretty okay. I mean, it was panic bomber.
WaterWorld (Yes, a licensed movie tie in game) was pretty dang meh
Mario Clash was okay, not my cup of tea but good use of 3d for more complex levels.
Golf was... golf.

Bought a Virtual Boy for 20$ at a garage sale when I was like 10. Best 20$ I ever spent.

I bought mine from Target for $20 new. They also sold the games for $5. At twice that price it was a great deal.
I'm curious I know there are Virtual Boy emulators that are the 2D versions of the games but has anyone done 3D emulation for Oculus, Vive, or Gear?
Yeah, there's a great one for the Oculus Quest in the sideload app.
The sideloaded emulator on oculus quest does either 2d or 3d modes. Also has different pallets
if a little thought had been put to it, the format might not have flopped as badly as it did, and it might have attracted more third party publishers. the games were not the issue. it was the product itself. so there was a street fighter on the virtual boy after all. my ideal games for it would have been megaman: power battle, top gear 3000, virtual bart, samurai showdown 4, power rangers turbo, 19XX, diddy's kong quest, a proper f-zero game like X on n64 or GX on gamecube or the gba game; and a mario platformer like the DS or the 3DS games or the wii U game with luigi in it. maybe a bomberman land game as well.

Ah this was great. I remember playing the display model at walmart when they were first released.
God this brings back memories from my childhood, first time I used one was when I got one rented from a blockbuster video and the 3D look blew me away. I finally was able to buy one later on, and to have one of these as a kid was absolutely amazing. I had Mario’s tennis and warrio land and warrio was the only game I ever beat. This could of been a great system if Nintendo didn’t bastardize it in favor of the N64, and add color to it. Great video, the nostalgia is amazing!

Oh man this brings me back. When Virtual Boy came out I knew it was something my family would not be able to afford but every time we hit the store with a demo display 11 year old me would ditch my parents and spend an entirely inappropriate amount of time with that thing on my head. The motion sickness induced by the wireframe graphics on the Star Fox demo was real.
Still have mine from launch day lol. My right screen died also
