    This is a great tutorial. Thank you for doing all the test squares. It saved me the trouble and the money. BTW, you might consider dry brushing more dust on the cake after it has all dried. That should take care of any left over streaks that you may have.

      Hi Ahmedidawood, great question. I personally haven't tried anything besides what i've shown in the video and found that alcohol works the best because it helps try the paint up faster as alcohol evaporates and doesn't cause the fondant to soak too much water.
      Most extracts such as lemon/vanilla still contain alcohol so if you want something free from alcohol i think a great way would be to start off by colouring your fondant a darker colour instead of white.
      Such as a dark yellow colour and then in that way when you add the lustre dust by itself directly on the fondant. You will find that because you coloured the fondant a dark colour, the goldness will be more visible once brushed on. Thats the best option in my opinion if you want no alcohol based substances. I hope this helps :)

    What do you think of dusting the rolling surface with luster dust then rolling out your fondant on top?

    • @storytalecakes
      @storytalecakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      N Allardyce that's a great suggestion! Love your creative thinking. The only thing is it will crack when you do that because the fondant stretches and then elephant skin can appear + white cracks will show up. But I love your create thinking :) it might work on smaller surfaces such as cookies though

    Hi! This may seem like a dumb question lol but I was wondering if you could use regular rubbing alcohol since it evaporates?

    • @storytalecakes
      @storytalecakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lauren Phillips Hi Lauren, this is a fantastic question! We don't have rubbing alcohol in Australia, but I did do some research for you and found out this information : type of alcohol that rubbing alcohol is made with (isopropyl alcohol) is metabolized differently by your body than the type of alcohol in beer, wine, and liquor (ethyl alcohol), so, according to the Betty Ford Center, drinking even a small amount of rubbing alcohol can have potentially fatal consequences. So perhaps it's best to use another alternative such as " ever clear " or " cake decorators rose spirit " which both contain high contents of alcohol. Hope that helps love & thanks for watching 😘❤️

    • @storytalecakes
      @storytalecakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi love , you can use vodka as well, but it may show more streakier brush strokes because it contains lower alcohol content (40 percent) compared to rose spirit (95 percent )Any alcohol is fine, but the higher the alcohol ratio the better it will be to paint as it evaporates faster 💕 goodluck dear

    Only rose spirit? What is rolkem

    • @storytalecakes
      @storytalecakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rolkem is the brand for lustre dust :)
      Rose spirit must be the cake decorator type that contains at least 95 % alcohol . Careful not to mix it up with rose essence which is different. The higher the alcohol content the better the paint texture. You don’t have to use rose spirit . You can use vodka or ever clear, but keep in mind the higher alcohol ratio = the better the results . Thanks so much for watching and hope that helps :)

      yes fondant cake in fridge will cause it to sweat when you bring it outside. In my opinion i would suggest only fridging it after you cut the cake to avoid the fondant from sweating due to condensation.
      I don't know how hot the Weather n your country so its hard to say. Personally if its Spring or Summer i would leave it in a airtight box for 1-2 days at max if its a hot country, but colder countries you could probably leave it for 3-4 days :)

      Hi Ahmedidaqood, i haven't heard of dust powder maybe its the same as lustre dust, but a different terminology used in different countries. Here in Australia we have Lustre dusts and the are are dusts that are colored and have a shimmer to them. You have the metalic tones like silver, gold and bronze, but they also come in other colors like the pinks, yellows, blue and so forth. We also have " Petal dust " which is a dust similar lustre dust ,but without the shimmer too them so a sold tonne.
      In this case you will need to use lustre dust as the gold has shimmer in it.
      Hope that helps :)
