    I have to share this fact. My journey from Spanish Town where this toll road starts, to my destination in Falmouth is cut by more than half, and the money I pay for toll, is significantly less than the gas I burn on the old road. There are no negatives here, all win win.

    lots of xenophobia going on. The French build and own the 1st part of highway 2000 and i did not see so much hate.
    So why hate on the Chinese ?they are just doing the same thing the French did and any other business would do. Jamaica did not have the money to build this road . The chinese put up their money . they get some land and they collect tolls for some years Jamaica get a quality highway which will open business and we don't add to the debt. those land has been sitting there and no Jamaican try to buy or invest.this is what we should be doing a long time . we would not have all this debt. the Land they get they will build hotels. Who's going to work in those hotels.? look how much deal the spanish get to build all those hotels. I don't have a problem with the Chinese . I have a problem the the corrupt Jamaicans. everywhere you go to get some business done you have to bribe someone to get anything done.

    • @maureengordon309
      @maureengordon309 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I guess you don't believe this bribery happens in China right. Well I don't live in Jamaica and it happens right here in the Chinese community just like all other communities. There is nothign happening in Jamaica that isn't happening all over the world. While the Chinese put up their own money to build the highway, collect toll and a piece of our land, guess what? Chinese in China are starving by the millions. This highway will benefit Jamaica but we cannot be fooled in thinking that the Chinese did this to benefit us more than themselves. Wait we will soon find out since we don't already know.

    It is a lovely highway - once you're actually on it! The problem for me is the traffic from Normal Manley Airport to the beginning of the highway. Once you're on the highway it is plain sailing to Ochie. Depending on the time of year you can actually arrive on British Airways and reach Ochie while it is still daylight!

      Correction, China did the job, Jamaica should have done. As a Jamaican, I'm happy to see the highway built but, sad we never achieved our fullest potential after 55yrs of independence.

      you do realize Jamaica is a small nation

    • @richmck007
      @richmck007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why did JA wait 55 years to achieve this?
      Was no one else but the government to blame. In any country progress is how one leads by example.
      However, it is easy to say whoever you vote into power are to blame when it is the people who put them there.
      What I disagree with is the expense to local Jamaicans for this major construction which the Chinese will no doubt increase in interest as time goes by.
      Progress comes at a cost, even more so after 55 years. I would like to see the train system that the English established, restablished.
      There is abundant reason for doing it. This highway is not toll free and will be the fastest way to cross the country.
      With an improved railway system Jamaica's infrastructre will shine because there is much need in a struggling but progressive Jamaica.
      For the people, by the Jamaican people. No need for outside finance unless it is via exportation first, thrus improving importation of required machinery and know how...

      @Izlandprincess1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Claudette P well we don't have to money on our own. If Jamaicans would have worked together but unfortunately we can't wait around for that. We have to borrow the money so we can improve our infrastructure. During these developments Jamaicans are getting work. So both countries are benefitting in that aspect. And it's a good thing the Chinese are working along. They are good and diligent workers and work fast. I must admit if it were just Jamaicans it wouldn't have finished all now. Some tend to be very lazy and some deliberately stretch the job out, which is counterproductive. We may have a ton of loan to repay but at least we are closer to being more developed in terms of infrastructure which will help bring in more investments. Now if Jamaicans are so hurt by the govt bringing in foreigners they need to stop with the crime and violence. It pushes out investors and I'm not seeing many Jamaicans trying to invest in their own so we have to seek it from outside.

      people take loans to build their own business. it all depends on you own ability to create margin of benefits. you can't expect bank to provide money and run your business for you to repay the loan. nothing in world for free to any country. China took loans , allowed west company to exploit their sources to create jobs and suck in technologies, and earn hard working bloody money as well. they accumulated their earning into capital and invest in their own industrial abilities, now after 30 years gone, they are raising. so please don't complain, be hard working, make your own future. when you need money to do some thing but you don't have it, you certainly need to borrow it, and if someone agreed to lend you money you should appreciate not complain, because if you got so much potential as you thought, it won't be difficult for you to get loan anywhere else!! look at your credit other people seen in you first!! not expect someone give the money free to you. that's the beggar's logic!

    Nice road. Have fun obtaining debt from china. Jamaica isn't even ready for a new road. The old one perfectly takes you to the capital

    • @KarizmaticENT
      @KarizmaticENT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Non progressive backwards talk, even if it takes 100 years to pay back China, the fact is Jamaica will still be around and the future generations will benefit from these highways. Don't be so short sighted

    • @soggyslopster6800
      @soggyslopster6800 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      KarizmaticENT While it's the more progressive thing to do. It's not always the right thing to do. Jamaica should develop some form of infrastructure before roads. Even their water lines aren't up to standard. And I think water should be a bigger priority than a new road. Also, barely any locals can use this new road due to the fact that the total cost of going down that road equals out to 500 round way. Progressive policies can only work if the economy is in shape. You're a good kid but you only think with your heart.

    • @KarizmaticENT
      @KarizmaticENT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If you can't understand the economic benefits of highways linking the whole of Jamaica then maybe you're the kid here, or maybe just too old fashion. I won't waste time educating you on that, there's google where you can educate yourself. Jamaica being tourism dependent will benefit immensely from highways. A country with modern infrastructure is very attractive to visitors and people looking for opportunities for investment. I'm afraid like so many Jamaicans you are the one thinking with your heart and not your head, maybe you are more worried that "the chiney dem a tek ova".

    • @soggyslopster6800
      @soggyslopster6800 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      KarizmaticENT There ARE NO economic benefits to this road. They have no companies that need to transport across the island. And the average civilian cannot go down that road due to their lack of pay. I went to Ochos Rios around march 22-24 and while I was there I spoke to my tour guides. They had told me that there was no need for a new road and that everyone got what they needed from their old road. This was just a power play by china to have yet another country under their belt. As Joseph Stain said "For one to rely on another country, is to bend the knee for that country." Ochos Rios and Jamaica as a whole would be better off providing for themselves and aid by friendly countries who won't force a debt upon them. That is not the old fashioned way of thinking. But the smart way of thinking.

    • @KarizmaticENT
      @KarizmaticENT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Do you understand when I say that a better infrastructure is more attractive to investors, start using your head, or not, it doesn't matter to me I'm not gonna argue with you all day. All the experts know this, do you know more than the experts. Do you understand that the chinese got land to build hotels and housing communities? how do you think people will get to these places. Do you understand that tourist can now rent cars and drive to certain attractions a lot easier? Do you understand that it's easier for Jamaicans who live in Jamaica and Jamaicans overseas (Who can afford to pay the toll) who are visiting can get to all the events all over Jamaica a lot easier?

    • @malcolmxy3971

      Why is that? Because China plays a chess game that it has already been playing in Asia for centuries (at least). Just travel a little bit in East Asia and you will see how their neighbours perceive China. It is ingrained in their culture that "uncivilised nations" (that is the rest of the world) need to be merged in the Chinese sphere of influence. And today, in a world where natural resources are becoming scarce, they're trying to secure the last chunk of it. I hope you will have learnt something today, Harry K. And why is that? Why does your own country very likely have a huge debt too and did not anticipate their expenses (unless you are a Norwegian citizen)? It's called speculation and capitalism plundering the world resources. We'll see later about the financial debt, the ecological disaster and the climate change...

    • @Izlandprincess1
      @Izlandprincess1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      smile forme speed limit is 80 for the majority of the highway....I think 100 in some parts but I may be confusing it with the south coast highway. If you drive the speed limit it should take 45mins from kgn to ochi but he did it in 23mins so I'm guessing he was over 100. It's very easy to get over 100 especially when we reach the sections of the highway where there's a descent. The other parts of the highway is at a 5percent incline so you tend to move slower then. Overall it's a nice highway with beautiful views.

    People should stop complaining. The Chinese are not taking over anything. Right now, the Chinese have too much money that they don't know what to do with it. Better to let earn something by building toll road projects than letting it sit idly. The Chinese are also doing the same thing all over Africa. They should be commended for that. My only problem is that African countries should learn from the Chinese so they can be doing the same thing fifty years from now.

    The concept of slow lane v fast lane is lost on Jamaican drivers. There's absolutely no order in that country.

    chinese might not realize this but keep allocating resources to dark skin people, they are not helping the world, because these people are not innovative, soon there will be less resources to go all around and it will push the major nations, including china to fight for it, and there it comes world war 3.
    building roads, bridges, houses, infrastructure etc. in countries like africa, jamaica, nigeria, indonesia, bangladesh, pakistan, will only stretching the world's resources, because these people are not innovative, lazy, ignorant and close minded they will not help solve the world's problems, so all those resources youre put into and given will only go wasted
    helping the poor people is good only if they are hard working and innovative, like the jewish people, that's why america spend billions each year in israel. china on the other hand spend billions in africa, south asia, southeast asia, which will go wasted. these people are (sorry) dumb, angry, and ignorant, giving them free stuff will only teach them to be more ignorant, china need to get wiser and think about real investing in the future.
