They're amazing, but it's painful to watch; this needs an "S&M snuff movie" warning. But it's important to see the brutal hardships they put themselves through before finally achieving it. Now back to getting the Light to Light gap in Tony Hawk Underground 2.

Jeremy Wray's water tower gap remains unmatched because that was a death sentence if he missed it. Clive's was deadly too, but his trick was actually safer since as long as he kept his body weight towards the inside of the rail, he could still fall and slam on the stairs or the roof but at least he wouldn't die.
Gartland skateboarding that rail still gives me chills. U can see in the joy in his face. There's pain with this level of skateboarding but the releif/jubilation afterwards is unmatched

We truly all are so different with our thoughts and our highs and lows so it really is so important to continue to be compassionate to those who are struggling. Hey, I recognize that spot with the water tower boardslide. It’s at an abandoned military facility near Edwards Air Force Base, just south of Mojave, CA 35°00'22"N 118°09'25"W
I lived and worked out there for six years, so I recognized the scenery immediately. It took just a few minutes to find the exact spot on Google Earth. Watch, now some knucklehead is going to go out there and try it. Don’t do it, kids. That’s beyond sketchy.

I love how you show all the failed attempts at these tricks because that really shows what these guys go through. Most people just see the trick and never think about how much effort went into it. Just imagine waking up and going "Well, time to go fall down some stairs for 2 hours" haha.
I was never good when I was a teenager, fractured my tailbone when I tried again in my twenties and haven't touched a deck since now in my forties but, man, I still love skateboarding. I love watching people do what I could never imagine doing so thanks for putting this together. Henry Gartland's passing is hella sad, though (learned about it from this video). Depression and suicide is a real and scary thing so, everyone, take care of yourselves and don't don't be afraid to ask for help if you feel you need it.
@@damianb2374 yeah, tried an FS flip and unintentionally landed primo causing both my feet to shoot forward out from underneath me, resulting in all of my weight coming down on my ass. I had to rely on painkillers for a couple of weeks after and I'm so glad I worked retail at the time because sitting down was borderline impossible.
Wray's high jump still makes me sweat every time I see it. All time great! Edit: I was sweating through this entire video. I'll stick to flat ground and curbs haha!

It's been over 20 years since I've stepped on a board (yeah, I know) and I've seen skating go from (mostly) ramps to street to super technical street skating (the tiny wheels days) and I was blown away in the late 90's to early 00's, but the things kids today today and I do mean "kids" blows my mind!..
2 years ago i solo traveld the west coast, and the skateparks these kids have had made for them is INSANE> 10 year old kids ripping giant vert ramps, doing the craziest tricks into tricks. it sucks to be old now, but DAMN the sport is gunna be just fine
Even though I’ve seen Jeremy Wrays water tower gap many times before, I still can’t get over on the execution and timing (the tail literally clips the very edge, popping off at the last split second) to how close and tight the landing was 😮 not much room for error and most definitely not forgiving If he made any!

What's odd is that the water tower gap is ingrained in way more minds than danny way doing the wall of china. The cost-distance-height etc was all much larger but some guy who one day decided "Gonna climb this water tower and ollie to the next one" Magic!
I feel like those big projects are always a created situation in the sense they had to construct & move those ramps, plan logistics meticulously, lots of math and permits involved for a very specific stunt with a lot of hype (and to be clear, I'm not trying to lessen the skill in those achievements because they are extremely difficult and insane). On the other side, like you said, Jeremy saw something creative in the environment and just went for it. Very little prep or fanfare, just an idea and massive balls. Even though Danny's was way bigger, crazier concept, whatever; Jeremy had the very soul of skateboarding embedded in his idea, so it just hits different

I remember seeing Tony Hawk hit the 900 live on the Xganes back in the day. At that time nobody thought it was possible to rotate fast enough to hit a 900, then TH did it live in the vert finals at the Xgames..the whole world just held it's breath and then everyone just exploded in celebration.

What's falsely interpreted in the video is that Jeremy Wray didn't really plan to jump the towers. He had the video shooting planned for the day, ran by the towers and stopped by to do it.
The water tower gap is the top of the list. The take off was PERFECT and landed with only an inch or two from the edge. That trick is pure death
