- Travel with the train driver on this Watco freight train as we journey from Cockburn East to North Quay (Fremantle) in the suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. This train is hauled by a G class locomotive which began life with the Victorian railways in the early 1980's.
We thank Watco for their co-operation in making this video possible.

Different perspective than from the roads through that area great video driver 👌
Very happy to hear you enjoyed it. 👍😊
Another great video. Keep up the good work.
@@Tonybob718 thanks. Very happy to hear you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
I really enjoyed that, especially getting a look inside the docks at Fremantle port 👍
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the ride and the look inside the docks. 👍😀
Excellent video from my local station+ framing and sound quality are top efforts
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. 👍 😀
The 3 Former Train Station on The Dual Gauge Line Was Originally Opened in 1986 For The 1987 Americas Cup In Fremantle, W.A., Australia However, 3 Of The Former Train Station Was Closed Due To The 1987 Americas Cup Was Finished And 30 Years Later They Been Demolished in 2018.
And One More Thing Train Line From South Beach Train Station To Fremantle Train Station Was Originally Have 2 Dual Gauge Tracks, But Now They Are Only Have A Single Dual Gauge From South Beach Train Station To Fremantle Train Station. And Thanks For Making That Video And Happy New Year.
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. Happy New Year also. 👍😀
This is a completely random question and I mean no disrespect, but... why do you capitalise every single word?
The line between Robb Jetty and Fremantle never had two dual gauge tracks. It had a separate standard gauge and narrow track, which were combined into a single dual gauge track when the Americas Cup stations were built.
@@MitchellFreeway Oh... sorry about that.
Lots of building going on south of Fremantle; they should extend the Metro service further to the south.
Clever spraying water on the tracks at 25:00 to prevent squeal.
@@pgchase4578043026 the area is certainly building up. The water spray on the tracks works well. 👍😀
7:00 The former Bibra Lake branch, which was part of the Fremantle-Armadale line, came in here from the right
7:55 Former Spearwood ng station
9:23 Structural engineer and railway photographer Weston Langford designed the Hamilton Rd bridge and was present during the early stages of its construction, taking several photographs.
13:05 Old South Fremantle Power Station on the left
17:48 North of here the railway was once like it was up to this point: one road sg, one road ng. For the America's Cup defence in 1987 and its massive influx of tourists, the two roads were combined into dg to allow space for a footpath beside the track, better access to the race harbour area, and the three extra passenger halts to be built, which are now gone
21:01 Capo d'Orlando in Sicily is one of Fremantle's twin towns
25:01 Former whaling station tunnel

The only place on the network where the PTA allows freight trains under the wires - there is no choice anyway
@@neilgerace355 👍😀
I love this. Would love to ride in the cab for a day with the engineer.
@@darrenstanleysmith5207 it is a great view from the cab. Glad you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
Interestly nice ride
Very happy to hear you enjoyed it 👍 😀
I had my photo taken next to that Fremantle sign beside the railway line on one of my visits to Perth 10 years ago.
@@jamieb8112 good job. It's still there. 👍😀
Love the video mate, Do you film all your videos yourself? you must get around.
@@commanderbluy yes, I film them myself. I guess I do get around a bit. 🤔😀 Glad you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
Very Good
@@Mediawatcher2023 thank you. Glad to hear you enjoyed it 👍 😀
After doing some Metro train hopping today to beat the heat, it's nice to come home to some footage from another state.
A good way to beat the heat. Good to hear you enjoyed the video. 👍😊
Most interesting. The area was my old stamping ground 40+ years ago, totally unrecognisable now.
Same here, lived in spearwood, how’s its all changed. Remembered the pig slaughter place - Dorsonga i think it was.
good on ya dorsogna 😂 mayb you're thinking of Watsonia?
All the people waving to you must be the best part of the job
It is nice to see people wave. 👍😀
I’ve notice that about Perth. It always seems as if the entire city is built on a huge sand dune.
@@xr6lad certainly much sandier than over east. 👍😀
What is the story with the clearly less used line adjacent to the one the train is travelling on?
Narrow gauge has not been used for a few years now. 👍😀
Can you still cross trains at spear wood?I noticed the SRP indicators were not lit on your approach or the video did not show them.could you clarify this if possible.otherwise great video thanks
@@DavidMorris-e1s I'm not qualified in Western Australia so I won't attempt to answer this but hopefully someone here can answer that question. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video 👍😀
The old Spearwood Armadale Line entered on the right at 5 mins 50 secs.
👍😀
Hi, Great video. Can you answer a question. The WA Govt was keen to get more container traffic via Fremantle to Syd and Melbourne this would have been quicker than sailing around ex fremantle. Did it happen. If it did happen might explain some of the container traffic heading East on PM AND PS consists. Cheers
@@aurelius2277 I'm not sure how successful that was but there is container traffic heading east. Glad you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
This really should be a passenger route as well.
@@CursoryMercenary you never know what the future holds. There has been a lot of work going on in WA. 👍😀
I used go Fremantle on old westrail diesel trains from mt lawley to Fremantle stn from late 70.s to late 1980.s till now and I grew up in subiaco perth Australia
@@nathanroberts355 I travelled on those old diesel railcars when they were still operating to Fremantle. Very different these days. 👍😀
Love watching your videos of the routes that your drive on. I’m considering changing jobs. What’s the typical salary for someone driving one of these beauties? How often do you get called up to drive?
@@michaelmarko9805 I only drive in Victoria. In WA I am a visitor and my camera goes for a ride. It is a good job. 👍😀
@@michaelmarko9805 watco don't have a lot contracts here in the west
Do you wave at the 'tram drivers'?
@@Swaggerlot I wave at other drivers but I don't often see tram drivers but I would if I do. 👍😀
While we have this recent one, I may as well ask Driver667.
Do you know of a frieght line that goes from Midland, north through Upper Swan, where it crosses Apple St.
And as far as I can tell from Google Maps, goes north up to Muchea and beyond.
I've I've crossed it getting to Great Northern Hwy. It seems in good nick, so it must be getting some fairly regular usage.
Any chance of a trip up that way?
Sounds like the line to Geraldton to me. That is one I would like to do but living in the east of Australia, I don't get a lot of chances to do filming over in the west. It is on my radar though. 👍😀
@@downunderrob The Midland Railway, it usually gets one grain train in each direction daily. The last timetable I had showed that it is due at Millendon Junction 04:55 down, 23:25 up.
aurizon only do grain and narngulu shunts along that line so he would need aurizon permission
carts mineral sand from Muchea
@@paulakirkham3287 Used to. The rail connection to Tronox was cut.
I have two questions, why is there irrigation at the 25 min mark and what does the Predictor predict??
Cuts down on the squealing on the curve. Predicts how fast the train is travelling and starts the crossing lights at the appropriate time. 👍😀
The track must be dual gauge then ? But the narrower gauge doesn't look very used when the train diverges onto the single line at the beginning ? What are the gauges ?
@@Sam_Green____4114 standard gauge (4'8.5") and narrow gauge (3'6"). 👍😀
narrow gauge was last used when the first lot of new cbh arrived and that was 6 years ago
@@rodneybeard4317 👍😀
@@rodneybeard4317 I thought so ! The narrow gauge's inner rail looks very rusty ! Like nothing has been over it for a long time . And when the two lines separate and run parallel to each other ,the narrow gauge doesn't look in very good condition and looks poorly maintained . What is cbh ?
Co-operative Bulk Handling. They deal in grain. 👍😀
24:25 If I was that guy on the bike, I'd drop back a bit so I could ride just behind the loco.
Of course I'd have to be on an electric bike, or I'd never be able to keep up.😮💨🚴
@@martythemartian99 electric bikes are great. 👍😀
Would this train be ex west rail because west rail closed down in 2005 or something like that
@@PerthAussieGarbo0759 it's a Watco freight train using an ex Victorian locomotive. 👍😀
@@driver667 ah ok do u remeber how long west rail lasted for
@@PerthAussieGarbo0759 the freight was privatised somewhere around 2000 and the passenger network transferred to the PTA a few years later. 👍😀
@ ah ok because I watched some west rail videos and they used to run down south of Western Australia from the Donnybrook line until Manjimup
@@PerthAussieGarbo0759 yes, pity it's closed now 🤔🤔
What's the water spray at 25:25 for?
@@peejay1981 noise suppression
It cuts down on the squealing from the wheels on the curve through the residential area. 👍😀
@@driver667 I have cycled past this several times and wondered. Thanks for the answer, which turned out to be as I thought.
@@johnstaring3210 you're welcome. 👍😀
As a male that name always makes me cringe!
Just keep the aloe vera lotion handy! Or better yet, Savlon!😅
It's pronounced "Co-burn".
There's a station on the suburban passenger network called "Cockburn Central". A place I always assumed is where you get given just all the diseases 😜
