One of the reason I like Bohemia, is that they have always understood, contrary to other devs/publishers (for the most part), the game is only as good as the community that plays it. All the Arma iterations have strong community-to-dev ties and it makes playing it that much more fun. Great video, as always.
I really love this channel. I love how closely BIS works with you, it represents a fantastic conduit between the devs and the community they have created.
2all: Maybe it's just me, but I sincerely think these Arma 3 tutorials of Dslyecxi (damned that's hard to write when you're slysdectic like me) are true pieces of art. Maybe it's the combination of his calm voice and the graphics that look truly stunning, at least to me (I've seen most of the other "games" but they look a lot more fake for me). 2D: Good job and very much appreciated! Watching your videos is always a joy. In fact, I wouldn't mind watching you playing live all day, instead of TV.
Another reason to use a curved approach is it increases the distance you fly to the touch down point giving you more time and room to adjust your approach speed and should you need it adjust your approach angle. When training in an R22 for example and you end up too fast or too steep to make it to a landing area in the case of a forced landing or autorotation students are taught to do a series of tight S turns to increase the distance flown and allow you to bleed off the speed and adjust your approach angle without having to wave off the approach. In certain situations such as a forced landing you may have to take what you have and use it to get yourself back on the ground in one piece when going around isn't an option. Another helpful benefit is the forces in the tight turns can actually help build rotor RPM which you can then regulate with the collective. I enjoy your video's thanks for making them. I would very much like to go flying with you someday if you can arrange some free time.
I think it's great that BIS are reaching out into the community and paying for people to help work for them (Not sarcasm) Keep up the great work Dslyecxi, god damn you're name is hard to spell.
Awesome tutorial. I strongly suggest to any Arma pilots who don't want to use mouse + keyboard to go with a wired Xbox 360 controller. I've been using my Saitek AV8R joystick since I bought Arma 2 and it's just never worked exactly how I want it to. A week ago I switched to my 360 controller and oh my god, all my stress is just GONE. It's so much easier and if I was a good pilot before, I'm Top Gun now.
Dslyexci, The Art of flight series has help me tremendously I appreciate all the time and energy you've taken to make these videos. I only wish i had more time to join your group. I'll watch from my afar for now. Thx!
i hadn't watched it but since you advised me to now i have. First thank you for suggesting so. I was already aware about the issues of the screen but i didn't know it was so terrible, like really terrible. The good news is that the screen was part of the first devkit, which btw has been recently revised and updated to a 1080p screen. The impression Dslyecxi gave me is that it needs a 4k one, and i agree bcuz if you do the PPI math you would get the same results. i was expecting more, soooo yeah
It depends on the mission you're playing as well, a lot of the invade and annex servers, and wasteland, have hundreds of scripts going on that are unnecessary. Mission where there are a bunch of guys flying around in choppers will still run at 60+ fps, and a lot of basic missions involving minimal amounts of scripts generally tend to run much better, in my experience, which in turn makes MP a hell of a lot more fun. :)
Maybe I should have made that more clear...with Vietnam era I actually meant the timeframe from the late 60´s to mid 70´s, not necessarily the Vietnam War itself! I think a fictional setting where e.g. the US gets somehow involved in the Prague Spring events from 1968 would be quite interesting and also balanced in terms of the points you mention!
From his site: "Professionally, I have worked with the Virtual Battlespace 2 simulation in different capacities since 2007, and am currently a contractor for Bohemia Interactive Simulations, the creator. I have also been a consultant for the ArmA series of games since late 2006" He might as well have been working for them already
Foot pedals hey??? man you got it sorted..................... My shopping list is growing..... Going to have to kick the Mrs out to fit all the new gear in! Oh well. Love your work, keep it up very helpful!!
This is common from what I've been told - though you shouldn't be seeing that big a drop. Your client tends to do a lot more calculations in MP than in SP, especially if AI is involved along with other players
Has BI allowed the throttle and collective to be separated via options in A3? I like the joystick with pedals and a throttle, where I could use the throttle wheel on the stick for throttle, and the throttle stick for collective.
I already had a js/throttle/peddles so I would like to use them. In Arma I am using the throttle for collective. I am finding that the throttle is way too sensitive. I'll have to try and adjust that as I am slamming down to hard. I get the feeling that the keyboard and mouse probably work better but I'll try and tweak it again.
Also, it depends on the map and how well its optimised (or not) - I've seen people who normally get 30-40fps on Takistan slow down to less than 10fps on Zargabad (Arma 2, obviously - principle remains the same)
The software isn't perfect, and hasn't been updated in years, but it works fine once you set it up correctly. Initially it was daunting because I didn't understand any of the settings, how they worked, and how the values affected the tracking. After investing some time to learn/tweak the the settings, I now have a very reliable, and cost effective tracking system. What camera/point model did you use? I use PS3 eye / 3pt OSRAM led and it works great.
Just wondering do you have your Z axis shut off on your Track IR? Mine gives me trouble zooming in and out when i don't want it to. Also for some reason it is reversed so back is in forward is out. Some pointers on Z axis setting would be great or just general settings for Track IR. I fly with my collective on the rockers on my rudder control it works well. Your video's have been a great help although my CAS marksmanship still has much to be desired
Dslyecxi maybe you can provide some insight...I know your stance on the implementation of the ToH flight model, and I agree with you. It's too much for Arma. But being closer to BI than most people, do you know if they're going to be implementing it? Based off of this video, it looks like they decided not to?
On my old rig (now deceased) FPS were great on Takistan, though sometimes with a lag/fps spike here and there. But Chernarus was horrible on some parts of the map and Zargabad was terrible in the city but on outskirts wasnt so bad. CLAfghan on MSO runs better than Zargabad on insurgency, for me anyway, which is strange considering the maps. Lingor always felt great for me no matter where i was and was a favorite for insurgency.
This is great. Very well done. I'm wondering why they are not NOTAR versions of the Hughes 500 series since they are already flying with that for yrs now, and are more efficient and not nearly as vulnerable as tail rotors. Neat bird anyway though. Also, I don't know that control sticks are that much of an option, as I've worked with 2 other guys for a couple of days now to get my CH fighter stick and pro pedals to work in both helis and vehicles, and no go. This despite them both being recognized, and even the Z axis (throttle) being already assigned to collective, and being enabled. Can't get them to be recognized in any way ingame. Sure would be nice, as I've been flying sim helis since EA's Apache.
I'm a fan of NOTAR as well, hope someone mod it. Perhaps also compound helis and something from Future Vertical Lift (Make sense since it's the future)
Well now i could agree, a more conventional warfare style. While i enjoy Insurgency and MSO styled missions, i seldom get conventional warfare styled missions which ShackTac often display. I actually wouldnt mind a Sinai styled battlefield map with little towns dispersed, featuring Egyptian v's Israeli armies (either Six-Day-War or Yom Kippur War.) The latest Soviet weapons at the time posessed by Egypt and American/British/French/Indigenous Isreali weapons for the Israelis. Just a thought.
well it depends on what is being calculated in your CPU on single player im assuming its small missions with maybe 30 max AI but in multiplayer there are way more calculations to be made, for example your cpu will be calculating more animations becaus of more enemies and friendlies. Im no expert so dont call me on it.
i get around 60 in sigle player but under 10 fps in some servers so i think its true it does have some thing to do with the fackt that a single player game is on your pc and a multiplayer game isnt there is net code stuff and other ai that you have to load during the mp missions
This game is so pretty, it get's all the details right and doesn't pull a Battlefield 3 by adding dirty lens flare effects and unrealistic colour filters.
It's a beta. Video card drivers and game performance optimizations haven't been added yet. It'll get better I'm sure once the game is out. Reason why some people are getting great FPS is probably because they have amazing specs.
hey, i have a pending update for arma 3 from a while ago, is atis included in that? as well idk obviously lol, but also dyslecxi has this option, can somebody please get back to me
OK Dslyecxi I see you have access to Altis is it as awesome as I think its going to be? Super Jealous I have been wanting to set foot on that land for months now
One of the reason I like Bohemia, is that they have always understood, contrary to other devs/publishers (for the most part), the game is only as good as the community that plays it. All the Arma iterations have strong community-to-dev ties and it makes playing it that much more fun. Great video, as always.
I had my first successful landing without everything turning red!
I really love this channel. I love how closely BIS works with you, it represents a fantastic conduit between the devs and the community they have created.

I have watched a lot of your videos.. And you have made me a good pilot, infantry, and armor operator.. And I have to thank you much for that!!
I honestly don't know who would dislike these amazing help tutorials!
Just look at the like/dislike ratio

Love the video, thanks to you I no longer crash a helicopter within 25 seconds of takeoff anymore.
Your voice is soothing to a degree comparable to XboxAhoy and even the Khan Academy guy, but not near of course Morgan Freeman.
Greatest president of all time
Ahh... Arma.. the home of concrete tree's
i thought it was 7.62
it was
I’d say that’s more like gta 5
Let's not forget tungsten power lines.
From all of the dev footage of Altis i have seen I think it is going to be my favorite ARMA map ever!
I think it's great that BIS are reaching out into the community and paying for people to help work for them (Not sarcasm)
Keep up the great work Dslyecxi, god damn you're name is hard to spell.
I love the quote used at the end, about how helicopters don't fly. I use it all the time.

The new particle effects look amazing.
Dslyexci,

Thx!
+Afro Quack - Thanks for letting me know, it's appreciated!
This game looks so beautiful for you man, I hope you enjoy that! lol, im stuck on all low :(

epic vid dslyecxi, keep it up! Always top notch vids!
"There's no shortcut to becoming a good arma pilot"
Me, who just bought 2k$ worth of VPC sim gear: Observe how smoothly I fly into the power lines.
It depends on the mission you're playing as well, a lot of the invade and annex servers, and wasteland, have hundreds of scripts going on that are unnecessary. Atlis looks lovely. Can't wait.
Ill stick to being a grunt
You make flight look glorious
Maybe I should have made that more clear...with Vietnam era I actually meant the timeframe from the late 60´s to mid 70´s, not necessarily the Vietnam War itself! I think a fictional setting where e.g. the US gets somehow involved in the Prague Spring events from 1968 would be quite interesting and also balanced in terms of the points you mention!
Not a problem, i just thought i would mention it seeing as you did. Im not really up to spec with such things myself.
From his site: "Professionally, I have worked with the Virtual Battlespace 2 simulation in different capacities since 2007, and am currently a contractor for Bohemia Interactive Simulations, the creator. Thank you for helping with all armA 3 because I'm going to get it in 2018 and your videos help me out a lot thank you
I hope you enjoy it, and thanks for letting me know it's been helpful!
Foot pedals hey??? man you got it sorted..................... My shopping list is growing..... Going to have to kick the Mrs out to fit all the new gear in! Oh well. Love your work, keep it up very helpful!!
There are people like Dslyecxi then there are people like you.
This is common from what I've been told - though you shouldn't be seeing that big a drop. Your client tends to do a lot more calculations in MP than in SP, especially if AI is involved along with other players
I find free look really helps too (double tap left alt)
+AIRburst95 You can. I'm currently using W and S to control ascend/descend (collective) and Q + E for rudder control. Just go options > controls
Has BI allowed the throttle and collective to be separated via options in A3? I like the joystick with pedals and a throttle, where I could use the throttle wheel on the stick for throttle, and the throttle stick for collective.

hey dslyecxi, have you heard when altis is releasing? ive read that is when the full game releases, but i havent seen anything official.
The software isn't perfect, and hasn't been updated in years, but it works fine once you set it up correctly. Initially it was daunting because I didn't understand any of the settings, how they worked, and how the values affected the tracking. But being closer to BI than most people, do you know if they're going to be implementing it? Based off of this video, it looks like they decided not to?
Dslyecxi can you usually use the altis terrain or were you given access just for this contract?
Dude your pilot is pretty smooth.
Yeah, me too! The near future setting is just not something I care about...a vietnam era setting otoh would have been awesome imho!
Hey Dslyecxi, so you use pedal controller, what are some good brands that make pedal controls and other flight hardware?
I can keybind though, right?
(I don't have the game yet)
Say I want my shift key for ascending and control for descending, would that be possible?
AIRburst95 Yes, this is very possible :)
Erlend Dalhaug Daae yup, I actually got the game already, 223 hours on record so far...
can you make a art of flight video about useing the ah6j's weaponry
Hey Dslyecxi!
Could you write into the description which maps/worlds you used?
Been wanting to join ShackTac for years xD
I have my rudder pedals no trac ir yet Amazon? I’m prime and there’s no 2nd day deliveries takes at least a week to get anything up here
Again looks easier than it is getting the flair and touch down spot?
I over and under shoot I prefer under
We are all impatient for the full read release but can you blame us ? Based on what I heard comes out next month. Thanks for the video buddy.
12th September? Back to school for some! And 16:9! Hallelujah!!
He's not complaining about the performance in general, just the fact that there's apparently a 40+ FPS drop in multi-player compared to single player
yeah i was wondering if it was Altis as well
Hey Dyslecxi do you have any news about jets / planes ? :( because im little bit disappointed only 1 jet is accepted .-.
Your fps depends on how the server runs, how heavy the mission is and good host takes an advance of headless client.
can you show your settings for your pedals
it sounds like the first video of yours that he saw was that action menu video.
On my old rig (now deceased) FPS were great on Takistan, though sometimes with a lag/fps spike here and there. What are your video settings in the game ?
Having trouble setting up my G940. I think ArmA doesn't read out the throttle as it should.
how did you make this video in 1080p 16:9 but your other videos are not?
Are you gonna do a guide on jets when they come out? :D
What foot pedals/ controls would you recomend?
Dslyecxi how do you have the map Altis and I don't? Is it downloadable or do you have early access?
This is great. Very well done. I'm wondering why they are not NOTAR versions of the Hughes 500 series since they are already flying with that for yrs now, and are more efficient and not nearly as vulnerable as tail rotors. Oh, and I also use Track IR. Wondering if that is affecting it. There really should be ALOT more detail on this in the manual. Great sim though.
I'm a fan of NOTAR as well, hope someone mod it. Perhaps also compound helis and something from Future Vertical Lift (Make sense since it's the future)
@Dslyecxi How do you have other map ? I only have stratis.
how did you like altis? and do you know when it comes ot to rest of us?
I'm guessing hes asking if you'll make a video about the ragdolls and new vehicle physics.
I love Dslyecxi
i have the saitek pro flight rudder pedals and i can recommend them!
Hey Dislyexci what terrain was this filmed on?
Well now i could agree, a more conventional warfare style. While i enjoy Insurgency and MSO styled missions, i seldom get conventional warfare styled missions which ShackTac often display. How did you get Altis?
Hey Dslyecxi, how can I place a logo on a helicopter or truck in ArmA III?
He has a good amount of connections at BIS
You did so well until the very end. D:
Have you watched Dslyecxi's thoughts on Oculus Rift video? id recommend watching that, he makes a very good arguement.
i get around 60 in sigle player but under 10 fps in some servers so i think its true it does have some thing to do with the fackt that a single player game is on your pc and a multiplayer game isnt there is net code stuff and other ai that you have to load during the mp missions

He also does some marketing (videos) for the VBS sim or whatever its called
check out his track IR set up video might help
hey, i have a pending update for arma 3 from a while ago, is atis included in that? as well idk obviously lol, but also dyslecxi has this option, can somebody please get back to me
OK Dslyecxi I see you have access to Altis is it as awesome as I think its going to be? Super Jealous I have been wanting to set foot on that land for months now
I dont get how he doesnt gain speed when aiming his weapons down in the helo
How u get atlas ?. Is it in beta?
why does he have altis map?
Arma 3 Coming out on the 12th of September!!!! :)
not to be pedantic, but he works for BISim, not BI Studios.
How the hell did he get Atlas?
Thanks Dslyecxi :)
I agree on both accounts. Man, dyslexia is one hell of a durg.
What name? Dslyecxi? You know it's a play on the word Dyslexic, right?
Does he? I thought he just did a few videos in co-operation with them.
Yeah, I just said it doesn't have anything to do with your hard ware.
It has something to do with the settings of the servers in Arma 3.
Im guessing BI gave him a dev build with Altis in it.
Or they just sent him the map
