I find it a bit crazy that you can walk around reading an omnibus!? Nice work

Right, this man is crazy. If I was walking around while reading I would be tripping over things and pets and falling down.

At this point I probably done about 50 binds. When I started I was going with the recommendation of 25 issues in floppies per book, or I was doing thinner binds of paperbacks. But after experimenting I realized I liked much much thicker books. Now I always try to do a really nice thick one like 2 in or maybe push it a little farther than 2 in.
For example I bound the 16 dawn of x paperbacks and I split those into three hardcovers. But with Reign of X I'm going to take the 14 paperbacks and split them only into two hardcovers. The volumes will be much thicker. I really wish I had done two hardcovers with eight paperbacks in each for Dawn.

What binder do you use? I use to use houchen but now they're charging ridiculous prices lol

When you say you are binding them, do you mean you are doing it yourself or you are gathering the issues and then sending them to a bindering

Finally got my binds back from Lehmann after a 4 months wait (it's not long, but they thought it'd be done sooner) and they turned out great!

Thanks for the videos. I am planning on doing my first binding project based off your many videos. One thing if you have the time could you go over your process of creating a table of content page. ex: type of paper (regular printer paper), do you print it out at home or take it to a local print shop, do you cut the table of content page to the size of the comic or do you just insert it into the volume. Once again thanks for the inspiration from a thirty plus year collector.

When I started here in the UK, I designed the contents page and sent it to the binders as a PDF. They'd print it and add it. It cost a couple of extra pounds.
Now I do it myself. I print out on 80gsm matt, cut to size and just add it in the place I want. I've also started doing custom intro pages between chapters etc.

I just printed mine off on glossy photo paper, cut it to size myself, and put it at the front of my bind project, most binders have done books for years and can tell what you're trying to accomplish and help make it the best it can be

@@brandon17760 Thanks for the advice. The cutting of the paper worried me. I didn't want the TOC to close to the gutter of the volume.

I wish this would have dropped a month ago 😂 I just sent off 7 binds in January. So happy you got me into this side hobby though! No way DC would make a Titans omnibus from 2008 and now I'll have one 😁

What are your thoughts on DFAB vs smyth binding for a 12 single issue custom bind

  • @xposhboyx

Great video. I want to know if anyone has experimented with trimming versus not trimming?
I have always had my pages trimmed, but I have noticed that in some cases the some word balloons can be trimmed right off. Do you have books where you've told them not to trim, and how did those come out?

  • @acharpentier2012

A tip I'd add you kinda mentioned-- experiment! Try different binding methods, try to make your own tables of contents, try to make your own covers, and DON'T try it all at once. I have art-on-cover binds, some with dust jackets, some smyth-sewn, some DFAB. I've made my own TOCs, but I haven't tried to make my own cover yet. That's coming up.

I don't know where you are but in the UK there's only one choice : Spink & Thackray.

From your experience, how many issues would you bind from a set of trade paperbacks into one volume? For example I have tomasis run on Batman and robin but I’m not sure how to split it into volumes for a custom bind.

    • @xposhboyx

I'm a big fan of thick binds. I've combined 5,6,7,8 thinner trade paperbacks into one thick book that's was over a 2-in stack when I sent it in.
You don't want to go too far over 2 in, because then they will charge you more, at least HFG will.
Just keep in mind the weight of what's going to be in your hand, some of the trade paperbacks can get pretty heavy and then when you start combining them though finish book will be very heavy for you.
But I've done binds that are 40-50 issues in trade paperback form, I've also done about 40 issues in single floppies bound together.
