The Palmer Snowfield is located above Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood. It is serviced by the Palmer Ski Lift, which can't be open until Spring because Mount Hood gets so much snow that the lift would have to run through a trench.

Wow, I didn’t know that snowcat shuttles were even a thing. Also, the summertime overlap of dirtbag bikers and skiers at Timberline is always amusing. Kind of a shame there’s no trifecta, like… downhill skateboarders bombing the paved road or something.

How steep is Palmer?, How far down can you ski in May? thanks for making this video, I found it very informative 🙂

Palmer is steep enough to be a black diamond run at the top, but I don't think it's avalanche steep. Snow conditions vary a lot once you get under 5000 feet but usually you can still get to the bottom of Jeff Flood in May. I would never count on getting to Government Camp that late, unless it was a really snowy year and the weather hadn't warmed up.

@@VoiceOverTrailReviews I skied there a week after I made the comment, Palmer had just opened and the flood lift was still open. I am an intermediate skier but I found palmer very manageable and the snow was nice and soft so it was easy to control my speed . overall I had a blast!

@@mbtravel7294 Nice! I always love getting up there in that sweet spot when both Palmer and Jeff are open. That’s a lot of vert!
