Love mine great video, lots of people end up selling them because they find them hard to work out, but once you get your head around it, it’s great and one of the best scanners iv ever had, this video says it all in one easy and understanding way, so to people that’s got one please give it time and keep it as you will learn and get used to it, as like I said once you got it around in ya head, it’s great and has the best reception and receiving iv ever used, as long as you got a half decent antenna.
This video helped me a lot when I got the BCT 15x and I love the scanner. Where I live in Lydd Kent I am a mile from the local Lydd airport where besides the airports goings on there is the Coastguard helicopter. I can hear the chopper warming up from my house, then I switch the scanner onto the airband and listen to the crew speaking on Polycon. I can hear the crew as far west as Beachy Head and sometimes as far as Margate eastwards. I also listen to the Coastguard helicopter on the marine band. Where I live three miles from Dungeness I can listen to traffic on both sides of the English channel on the marine band which is fascinating. There were a few Mayday calls last year involving the French Navy tug based in Boulogne bringing ships in for repairs after a collision. There was one ship last year just off of the coast of Folkstone where a boulder barge collided with a freighter. The ship was badly damaged and 11 crew members had to be rescued by the helicopter. Myself and my wife listened for most of the day to Dover coastguard, the lifeboats, the Coastguard helicopter on polycon. The ship was towed to Boulogne by the French navy tug. An interesting day all round thanks to the scanner. My antenna is a discone 1300 that I have had for over 25 years. Sorry for waffling and my thanks go to xtratalk 1 for his help in my learning. I use the Freescan software for the programming which is free on u tube. Good luck..73s...
I've not had much luck since getting my new bct15x in programmeing etc etc after writeing on one of your previous video posts , but after watching this video , wow ! Excellent video , learnt a lot , any more videos like this , explaining a few things would be great ! I've subscribed to your channel , so hopefully you will post a few more ! Thanks for the videos , a lot of us would be lost without them 👍
excellent video very informative , ive been looking for a new analogue quality scanner and this ticks all the right boxes , great reviews , just ordered one
Excellent video to start me off, then i got freescan to program and was given a few files, then moved on and got Squawker and linked that with Zopkins interlink and a dedicated cable, that was well worth doing as when its set up if it lands on a station in the airband it shows you what it is, you can then save it as a file and upload it.
Hi, Great vid for the first timers with this complex beast ! The box should just have a link to this video rather than the useless manual on a disc. I went down the software route as i think you saw from my video as i could not figure it out via the manual prog method initially!
Thanks Andrew glad it helped, it would be nice if Uniden made a half decent manual to go with it but they only really care for the US market and it's pretty much set up for them out of the box, the problem with that is that it makes it hard work for us in the UK to get started with it.
Hi I have deleted all its default search banks & programmed 5 memory banks with mixed mill/civil airbands, but it seams it is only scanning one bank, any ideas Terry.
Hi mate I know this vid is old now ,just got back into scanning ,notice you are in Buxton or that way ,I'm in glossop ,do you have any interesting frequencies ,you could share thanks
Hello mate, I have been following your drone vids, They are really helpfull. gave me a load of tips and ideas with my dji fc40...Anyway back to topic...whilst watching yr channel i came across this vid and was sparked into intrest by it.....jus need a little advice here goes. 1 how much can i aquire one of these rigs for. and 2 do i need any special ariel or can i just use a built in ariel ? Cheers mate...love yer vids.....ATB, Bri
I'm confused about systems, groups, etc. Where can I learn this Uniden stuff? I need a picture in my head. The Uniden manual with my unit sucks, and there is little online reference for this type of stuff. Cheers. 73 OM.
Great vid. Im new to the scanning world and just purchased a uniden 3500xlt and after just 2 days iv found all sorts. Love the little thing, it's constantly talking. Its teemed up with a watson wsma-881 at the moment. What antenna would you recommend for use in the loft. (I know not an ideal place) but seen as I have been picking up so much at home on the little whip. I think it could do much better with a base antenna. But not sure what would be best suited. Cheers
Yes you would get a lot better reception and bring in even more transmissions if you got a good antenna and if possible get it outside. Plenty of people have them in the attic though that work well, a dual band colinear or discone placed right should show you a big improvement over what your using now.
Thanks for the reply. I have been told The D-190 Diamond Discone Antenna, would be my best choice. I would love to get it up high outside but I am in a council house and don't think they would approve, so it will have to be place in the loft. Luckily Its an end house so nothing one side and its higher the the rest in the row.
I ended up going for the diamond D-130M discone, should be with me tomorrow. Is there any good tips to finding / identifying birdies ?. As I am new to the hobby, I am having no problems finding transmissions and using the scanner, infact picking up a lot of positive transmissions as I can here the conversations, but not sure if it keeps stopping on birdies or the fact I live in quite a busy town and getting interference. I did find switching of my tv got rid of quite a few of the annoyances. Just not sure if the rest is birdies or interference. Cheers for any help. Im using a uniden 3500xlt and have the squelch setting on 7 but even setting this as high as it will go it still opens alot of the time to mostly what sounds like a radio receiver being pressed and released randomly but no talking. Other times it sounds like a lorry engine at a constant mid revs.
kalimistuk Yep you will find birdies and interference up and down the bands on various frequencies. You can usually identify birdies easy as they often have a strong signal even without an antenna attached as they are signals generated from inside the scanner. You can block out interference on frequencies you listen to by using the CTCSS/DCS funtion on your 3500XLT. When you identify the tone that a user is using you can set the CTCSS or DCS so it will only open the squelch when that user is transmitting. More about CTCSS here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuous_Tone-Coded_Squelch_System
Yes mate... First few days were a headache but I prevailed and now it's bang on n all programmed up. Bought a d777 diamond antenna with low loss coax and a 20ft mast on the chimney = happy days buddy.
Hi T great Vid, just playing with the band scope at end of vid 13:15 onwards, I used 106.4 to experiment, The frequencies i saw in Vid i also paused and put in me scanner BCT15X Thanks and 73's
Hi Rob. Sadly it doesn't have a raw discriminator output so you would need to do the mod on it to decode DMR. I would suggest looking at a dongle, you can get them for under £10 and plug them right into your PC to use with free software such as SDR#, DSD and DMR Decode to listen to digital modes without having to do the discriminator tap. You can get help and info about this at: ukradioscanning.com/ Or if you would like to do the disc mod to your BCT15X you can see the instructions on how to do it here: ukradioscanning.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=75
xtratalk1 thanks mate but allready sdr dongled up.. magic fun toy.. ssb etc and decoding dmr. Nxdn etc .. but fancied a base scanner to compare..but im sure your info will be handy for many...btw i MUCH prefer HDSDR to SDR#..cheers rob
Wish you could be slower and more in depth like.. Techmoan in your area that reviews mostly video cams. He does a fantastic job. I need a new scanner and I heard this one does't come with a manual. Can you go slower and more in depth?
Hi some help needed please I need a UK police scanner what would be the best needs to be mobile handheld would be best ready to use straight away thanks

Great vids! mine will arrive this week, can i use a program lead to enter frequencies?
Great explanation well done mate i can programme mine now👍
what is the advantages of the gps...is it worth having it set up..?
Just what I was looking for, thank you for such valuable information.
Hi would you still recommend this as new to the hobby
What do you use for your receive antenna? Presumably an external outdoor one?
Is it worth getting the trunk scanner or just a digital one?
Many thanks for this upload, saved me a lot of time trying to programme my bct 15x,much appreciated..

Hi thanks for the information Best Regards Tim
What antenna do you need for these radios?
Hi I’ve got a problem with it not getting a radio channel or it will get a signal from another radio station
does it pick up milatry air band thanks steve
What antenna are you using and what location are your?? Thanks

hello my countrymen it is a great presentation on the scanner thumbs up happy new year
This covers CB too? Wow, that is amazing. How low does it go in the HF band...just CB or ham too?
where can I buy a uniden bcd996xt in the UK (Merseyside)
I'm confused about systems, groups, etc. Where can I learn this Uniden stuff? I need a picture in my head. The Uniden manual with my unit sucks, and there is little online reference for this type of stuff. Cheers. 73 OM.

is there any programming software for this like the at125

kalimistuk Yes that's a good choice for the loft, a good wide range antenna and the discone design alows it to perform well all accross the bands.

Great video mate and pondering getting one locally for £160 but can u confirm there mainly USA units imported to the UK?

How I get swinton police on that pal
hi how much is it to buy
Will a factory reset not get rid of these yank presets?
No, as standard they are defaulted to the US market which I guess they are designed for rather than the UK
Cheers for the handy vid m8..is there an unfiltered audio out on this scanner or will i have to do a discriminator tap mod for mototrbo etc ?

great video well done*****
Thanks again for your video. H :)
Nice. Emergency. Band. Scanner. Radio.

Cheaper to use a cheap 20 quis baofeng or RTL dongle or online scanners, scanning not as much fun since they took the police away
+Glynn H I think this covers 0.2 to 500 MHz far more than my little baofengs
#* absolutely
Glynn H M0LSG think you have that very wrong I have few different Boafengs they cover jack shit.
Step 1.
Turn off the annoying BLEEP !.
Pity you couldn't go slower for us newbies
Can you really lesson to British police
Looks like a terrible user interface scanner.
Hi some help needed please I need a UK police scanner what would be the best needs to be mobile handheld would be best ready to use straight away thanks
It doesn't matter what you get, you can't pick up UK police since they switched to tetra, all their Comms are encrypted.
