Nice video - I just got this installed with firestix antenna. I’m retired, this is my first CB . I love it but dont know much about them. Thanks for some info . David
Thanks, bud. Hmmm.... a brand new scanner on New Years Eve, I know what I'd be doing, listening to that thing all night seeing how many people get busted by the man.
The fact it doesn’t have SSB is a dealbreaker for me. You would think they would have sideband on what’s supposed to be their top of the line unit. I would buy one in a heartbeat if it had SSB.
Stack-em. Get yur yagi hooked up to the 980ssb, get your dx on, and on the 885 use a mag mount on a biscuit tin for local 19 assistance, and scanning, and both have built in swr meters and volt meters, wx, talkback, rainbow of colors for display, cb scan, cb programmed scan up to 12 saved fave channels, wx alert, prolly more, worth the investment, and about 5 circuit mounted pots for lowering deadkey, kicking up swing... thanks Uniden.
Hey Dave! Being a 38 year retired (2015) veteran OTR truck driver I have the Bearcat 355N and the Bearcat 800 BCT7. Running down the big road I prefer the 800 BCT7, as, it’s already programmed for each state [local, state, DOT, etc]…and, I also like the flashing red alert for when it detects the law enforcement cars…works real good coupled with my Cobra radar detector. I don’t use either one much at home bc of the limited range with the plugin antenna like you showed in the video. Always enjoy your videos! Stay safe as I wave from Houston, Texas! ~Jim~
I've had this unit a little over a year. It stopped powering up last week 😮 I know my connector has power so the problem is in the unit. Can't wait to get it back running
Enter your zip code for the proximity around you, and the gps will alert you to near by police activity and will switch to the area your driving in which is a really cool feature, too bad it dont have ssb sideband
In the 70's I really enjoy talking to about 10 to 15 people every night on my CB radio, which only had 23 channels at the time... I even had a CB radio in my car. So 50 years later I wanted to see if anyone was still using CB today. I bought the Uniden Bearcat 980SB and the Sirio Gain-Master antenna two year ago and was so disappoionted!! I only spoke to about three people in one year. So I took down my antenna and put away my radio. Maybe today people are using GMRS Radios, Ham radios or could it be simply the cell phone that did away with the CB. 73's
CB radios are so much fun and it really is a dying art. I wish more people were into them. Used to be some really good cb shops around and I have some phenomenal radios, still, but there hasn't been any reason to put them in the truck because nobody really uses them anymore. The first radio I ever owned was a 13 Channel royce. My grandfather had a three-channel Motorola because he was a deputy sheriff in southern Kansas and I really wish I had that radio. It was freaking huge. I ran a 23 Channel Robyn and a 23 Channel Victor for a few years until I got my first 40 channel Cobra 148 GTL. It's an old five pin radio. I still have all these radios but it makes me sad that I really can't do much with them anymore
The CB radio was on par with any standard CB these days. A good solid antenna set up would go a long ways. In times past I've actually got better performance out of a quality setup than a tuned radio

That was an awesome find. And a great video. I've always been interested in stuff like that. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it.
That's a bad mother trucker right there 👍

Do you know any radios similar to this one that do have SSB?

Lmao as a regular watcher of Vinwiki and knowing one of the cannonballers that reference was nice lol
Dave, can u recommend handheld digital police scanner with automation search and GPS for my travels Thanks for your time.
Uniden SDS100
Can you use the 885 as a normal scanner? Can you program your own channels in, or do you only get to use their pre programmed ones from the SD card?
Yes you can. Once you get it set up it will scan
Talk back is different than reverb and echo. Three different things.

How has the readio performed for ya? Any tips or tricks to share?

Is it possible to scan the cb channels?
No
The CB part of the radio has its own scan function.
I have worked on CB radios over 40 years. The idea that radio is "the coolest" is like saying the Chevy Vega was the coolest.
It’s junk dude 😅😅😅
