    Been running in Altra shoes for two years, no issues or pain. Bought the Hoka Speedgoat 5 (4mm drop), can’t do it, pain in the middle of the feet and weird feelings in my knees, it just feels wrong, like having a chewing gum under the heel. The Lone Peak 8 feels like a dream!
    Enjoying your content a lot, keep it up! 🇸🇪

    Great review, as always TDM. Team Altra, bruh's, keep the Lone Peaks, Torin and Escalente's coming, we love them.

    It's the Altra toe box I love, more than zero drop. So I think I would be happy with these shoes. 😊

    I just got a pair of these exact shoes (Orange ones)… and I will say I’m hooked!! They are so freaking comfortable and the 4mm drop is easier on me than the zero-drop. I stand on my feet all day and the midsole is not too soft and gives me the support I need…. I’m glad they came out with these, otherwise I would not be able to have a pair of Altra’s… I tried the Torin 7 but could not do the zero drop for more than a few hours at work so I had to return them… But these are a blessing, and I will buy every pair that comes out in this line, including the new Wild in May🙏🏻🙌🏻❤️

    I got them for my easy run and actually i bought them after an injury and to get back on training...i looooooove them, i wear them all day but my torin 7 are my babies and i cant wait to get back on them for my long run. The altra fwd experience are really great , they remind me of the hoka clifton but wider and lighter

    I kind of started out running in zero drop shoes. Only for the past few years have I been experimenting with rotating in some shoes with drop in them. My legs and feet don't really care too much unless the drop is very high. Not sure I would go for Altra shoes with drop though, as the main point of those shoes for me is to mix it up and spread the load a bit.

    I feel like zero drop is Altra’s bread and butter so hopefully they don’t move away from that. More concerning to me is the increasing stack heights. I sure hope they don’t discontinue what limited options they have in lower (20mm or so) stack heights. Thanks!

    Any advice for someone looking for an escalante 3 equivalent but with more cushion? I love the upper and fit but I cant find a neutral 0 drop shoe that has just a bit more midsole without having stability guard rails. I tried the torrin 7s but the heel counter rubs against by ankle bone. The staff had me try the same size but wide and it was ok.

    Great review. Clearly not for you. Its a strange feeling shoe. I didnt like it and im used to 4/5mm drop.
    Btw, do you have an update on how the outroad 2 does in wet conditions now? Im considering it for winter, but if there is no improvement i cant be bothered.

    I've done 50k on mine now. In the beginning I did not really enjoy them alltough I do love the fit.
    That was however right after my first marathon. I've now been using them for intervals at 5k effort and must say I really love them for that. I really like how they 'roll' on my front foot.
    All in all I understand more where they fit in my rotation, and Im glad i now have one shoe with a little bit of drop just to load my muscles slightly different.
    I did notice the same the first runs I had a little bit of knee pain. Which is the reason I run zero drop in the first place. But the body adapts and no longer have these issues.
    Altra told me the same, the shoe was never intended for current Altra runners but for new customers.

    I love the Torin, but the durability is a problem. When you start increasing your mileage, it gets very expensive

    TD Miller do you wear zero drop or barefoot style shoes for casual wear?

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Zero drop. Usually a pair of LPs or Escalantes. I did recently buy a pair of Vivobarefoot, but needed to return them due to a water-resistance issue.

    • @790d4
      @790d4 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @TDMiller OK so you wear altra for casual too. I use altra for running, vivo for casual/dog walking, I do love vivos. Zero drop necessary for some knee issues I have

      @@790d4 yeah, basically out of habit, but am open to trying out other brands. I really like the vivo line up, and will buy a replacement in the new year.

      It does take a while for your feet to get used to vivos, but does strengthen them over time. I notice the benefit in foot strength when I'm running now

    Dont know if I can justify adding these to my shoe rotation (as somenody with Torins, Escalantes and LonePeaks but several 4-8mm drop shoes from other brands as well).
    my concern with the rocker technology is that its imho more unnatural (and potentiality longterm unhealthy) than e.g. a small amount of drop. allready tried them in my local running store and liked the overall fit.
    BUT like many Altra fanboys I use my running shoes for walking, at home or at work as well and the 4wrd experience will not offer the "natural running" benefits for that purpose 🤷‍♂️
    @TDMiller: btw is "toe spring" something you are concerned with at all?

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, it would be hard to justify adding them to your rotation. If you already have the Torins and other 4mm drop shoes, there's really no reason to add them, other than "cool, a new pair of shoes". The FWD was apparently also made for walking in mind for people that don't even run, an Altra rep onces told me.
      As for toe spring, I'm not too concerned. I've not cut the shoe in half or anything, but my impression is that my feet stay flat, but only the midsole curves on the outside. So it should not affect the movement of the toes. But it's an excellent question, and I'll keep an eye on that!

    Torin 7 for long and easy runs and fwd experience for fast runs and speed intervals.

    0 drop…if you only run without ascending, descending…..otherwise you have always a drop.
    In most regions you have always uphill and downhill running…so 0 drop is only an academic thing….

      @FDNRunningandMotivation-ws1hd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well it's still better than a drop, cause it's almost impossible to find a shoe that would change its drop according to the terrain, and yeah, I do uphills and downhills on almost every run.
