I went there as a child and again as a teen. I have driven by as an adult. We would take water melon and stick it in the water while we swam, tubed or jumped from a dive platform. By the time we ate a picnic lunch that water melon was cold. Great memories! Thanks for bringing that back with this great video.
This totally made my friday! A new adventure with SailingandSuch...and in the the rain and all. I have a philosophy about rain when paddling..."It´s only water" and it keeps me dry and happy all day long. :-) Nice springs and glad you caught some crawfish! Never heard of kayak camping before watching your videos, but thanks to you I went with my sister and a gf a few weeks back on Holmes Creek. Now I am hooked!! I plan to explore all of Holmes Creek this year and find as many of its hidden springs as I can, and gonna try using my ISUP for camping as well as kayak, because I can go more places with it. Love your videos! Hoping to go to Rock a Dock this year but not sure yet

I think I have..... I'm going to try going down to Grayton Beach in Florida. There is a lake they recently connected to the gulf with a new man-made reef nearby.... Should be fun!
I was working down in Marianna FL after the hurricane until I broke a bone in my leg and a bone in my ankle the place was absolutely destroyed. Hope y’all are doing good now!

Great video! I just recently found out about Merritt's Mill Pond and I am stoked to go when it gets warmer and probably do some camping with friends for a weekend. There's so much water I'm not sure what area to focus on when we go. We will bring kayaks and I'm definitely planning on doing some swimming since I'm into mermaiding so I'll have my tail on. Is there a particular spot on this whole run that you recommend best as far as underwater beauty and varying depths? I'm okay with people being around but I don't want to swim in a location there that is super crowded.
Hey thankya! It's a pretty nice spot for sure, would be great for "mermaiding?" I have a mono fin I've never even tried.... You reminded me of it. Yes, you want to focus on the upper portion of it, it has the highest concentration of springs and clearest water. You can google "merritts mill pond spring map" for images and find a map that will show you approximate locations of the springs. The main spring is at the park under the diving board but depending on the day there can be people... The next one with clearity and depth would be twin caves, followed by shangri la. I think you will enjoy both of them and they will make for great shots. Plus on the upper portion the water is super clear everywhere so you can film out in the open as well. @@TripSmith Thanks so much! What kind of monofin do you have? After that first monofin swim I haven't been able to go swimming without bringing my monofin. It just makes swimming even more exciting. You should definitely go try yours out. The first time I really got to test it out in deep water I was at Vortex Springs and it was awesome! I have a Finis Rapid as my stiffer monofin and a Mahina Merfin as my mermaidy-looking fin that I now use in my big neoprene tail.

Been watching your older videos and was wondering is that salt water or brackish water your in? I lived in Florida for 10 years and I'll tell you I've seen some big gators, enough to stay out of the fresh water lol. The other thing is the mosquitoes, how the he'll they don't carry you away. I've been out on the polo grounds fishing the ponds and canals and as soon as dusk comes in, the mosquitoes will swarm you.
That right there is fresh spring water. Shoot, myself and thousands of other people swim in fresh waters in Florida every day. Just don't swim in the gatory parts much. Plus they usually run from humans.... Well, you have to just be prepared. Sometimes they aren't to bad, other times they are and you just cover up I guess.
I'm posting this one day from December and the weather in Marianna Florida just can't be beat. Sunny, warm, windless, no humidity, no bugs, not hot by day, not cold by night. Just absolutely sparkling clear weather. WOW.

Its a spring fed, small lake so a lot of it clear. There are no muddy creeks coming into it so it helps. There are just various springs in it, pretty cool.
Hmmm, really and truly I'd say buy the best you can afford. Go to a dive shop vs Walmart or a souvenir shop. I've had my mask for about 8 years now and it's still working great. Replaced my snorkel once. The mask was bout $70 and the snorkel maybe $25. Cressi is the brand I use but I'm not partial, just the first good one I bought and it's served me well.

Hey Trip, planning to go to this spot this spring or summer. Was the platform open to anyone or did you have to pay a rental fee? Also, was it big enough for 2? Wanting to go with a buddy for 3-4 days.
Oh cool! Glad you are going to Get Out There! Technically you aren't allowed to camp on them... They are meant for divers so if I diver comes up (night or day) they have priority over you for the platform. They are free though for use by divers so I guess free to campers? Ummmm, I guess it could have been but it would be tight and one hammock might be tough to get in and out of. But it would just make it that much more fun lol
Trip Smith Thanks. I found a couple nearby campgrounds so maybe with 2 of us it might be better or if we can find a couple good trees for the hammocks. Thanks for the info.

Im going there soon. Went up Omussee a few times. I like it alot and how easy it is to get in and out of. Caught several good size fish also.

Great video! I just recently found out about Merritt's Mill Pond and I am stoked to go when it gets warmer and probably do some camping with friends for a weekend. There's so much water I'm not sure what area to focus on when we go. We will bring kayaks and I'm definitely planning on doing some swimming since I'm into mermaiding so I'll have my tail on. Is there a particular spot on this whole run that you recommend best as far as underwater beauty and varying depths? I'm okay with people being around but I don't want to swim in a location there that is super crowded.
Hey thankya! It's a pretty nice spot for sure, would be great for "mermaiding?" I have a mono fin I've never even tried.... You reminded me of it.
Yes, you want to focus on the upper portion of it, it has the highest concentration of springs and clearest water. You can google "merritts mill pond spring map" for images and find a map that will show you approximate locations of the springs. The main spring is at the park under the diving board but depending on the day there can be people... The next one with clearity and depth would be twin caves, followed by shangri la. I think you will enjoy both of them and they will make for great shots. Plus on the upper portion the water is super clear everywhere so you can film out in the open as well.

@@TripSmith Thanks so much! What kind of monofin do you have? After that first monofin swim I haven't been able to go swimming without bringing my monofin. It just makes swimming even more exciting. You should definitely go try yours out. The first time I really got to test it out in deep water I was at Vortex Springs and it was awesome! I have a Finis Rapid as my stiffer monofin and a Mahina Merfin as my mermaidy-looking fin that I now use in my big neoprene tail.

Been watching your older videos and was wondering is that salt water or brackish water your in? I lived in Florida for 10 years and I'll tell you I've seen some big gators, enough to stay out of the fresh water lol. The other thing is the mosquitoes, how the he'll they don't carry you away. I've been out on the polo grounds fishing the ponds and canals and as soon as dusk comes in, the mosquitoes will swarm you.
That right there is fresh spring water. Shoot, myself and thousands of other people swim in fresh waters in Florida every day. Just don't swim in the gatory parts much. Plus they usually run from humans.... Well, you have to just be prepared. Sometimes they aren't to bad, other times they are and you just cover up I guess.

What was the flashlight you had while underwater, exploring the cave?
I really don't even know George. I'll have to check it when I get home (working at fire station right now). I bought it several years ago when I was cave diving...
So is that whole lake a spring or are there random spots where there are springs, i thought the lake water would combine with the spring
Its a spring fed, small lake so a lot of it clear. There are no muddy creeks coming into it so it helps. There are just various springs in it, pretty cool.

I have no snorkel gear...can you make a few basic entry level recommendations?
Hmmm, really and truly I'd say buy the best you can afford. Go to a dive shop vs Walmart or a souvenir shop. I've had my mask for about 8 years now and it's still working great. Replaced my snorkel once. The mask was bout $70 and the snorkel maybe $25. Cressi is the brand I use but I'm not partial, just the first good one I bought and it's served me well.
Silly question, but how did you keep your goggle lenses clear and not fogged up??

Great vid Trip. I just finished my 5 day Everglades adventure. You should really try it if your looking for a challenge. Just make sure you bring a Moskito net for your hammock! Great fishing as well. Looking forward to future vids.

Hey Trip, planning to go to this spot this spring or summer. Was the platform open to anyone or did you have to pay a rental fee? Also, was it big enough for 2? Wanting to go with a buddy for 3-4 days.
Oh cool! Glad you are going to Get Out There! Technically you aren't allowed to camp on them... They are meant for divers so if I diver comes up (night or day) they have priority over you for the platform. They are free though for use by divers so I guess free to campers? Ummmm, I guess it could have been but it would be tight and one hammock might be tough to get in and out of. But it would just make it that much more fun lol

Another great adventure.. keep it rolling dude!! I'm just kind a scared seen a bull G around.., u know this time of the year in any Florida river or pond ..but luckily the spring water temp sometimes keeping them out.
