    Beautiful truck! I really love the sound of those old Detroit 2 stroke engines! When I was a kid my dad had his own mobile home moving business. It was my first job when I was 10-15, I went with him on every mobile home pull for about 5 years. It was my job to put a red flag on every corner of the trailer, put the "wide load" sign on the back of the trailer and anytime we had blowouts on a trailer (which was often) it was my job to string the air hose from the truck back to the trailer and carry all the tools. I would also guide my dad back under the hitch and also guide him back when he was backing the trailers in. He had three different trucks, the first two I don't remember much about. But the last one was a mid 70s International Transtar and it had an 8V-92 Detroit with a 13 speed. It had such a distinct sound! I did a little recreation of it on my ATS game. Any ways, thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed the video!

    How I wish I could've had that beauty. Something that good looking just begs to be put to work, but I would also be afraid to work it since it looks as good as it does.

    I would like to have seen the truck under a slight load with maybe just a pup trailer being pulled down the road to hear how the truck runs out. I know that the truck is 44 years old. I only heard 4 gears in the gravel lot. Is it a sound truck?

    why are these cabovers not used anymore in the US?Why did they go out of style?

    • @nero5896
      @nero5896 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Length laws changed in the 80s allowing for longer wheelbase trucks. Conventional trucks ride better, have less noise in the cab since the engine is not under you, are easier to access the engine, are more aerodynamic, and are safer in a head on collision. Cabovers look really cool though. I always preferred their looks when I was a kid.

      Well the US, Australia,Canada are the only countrys in the world who favor the torpedo nose trucks over cab-overs.I am truck driver in Europe and i love my Scania R730 cab-over.I am allowed to drive all sizes from 16 meters and 50 centimeter untill the biggest wich allowed in my country the Netherlands and thats 25 meters and 25 centimeters and the cab width is 2 meters and 55 centimeters.Forgive me i dont know what the proper conversion to foot/feet is.

      Willem Van Oranje length law was lifted and mostly due to insurance reasons if you crash you are the first one there and if you fall out when climbing in or out your hurt

    You could have stretched the frame and made a roll off truck out of it. It would definitely been unique.

    No torque, so high revs and lots of noise. No power steering, heavy loads were a pain. You sounded like a buss going through town. Lots of memories but not too many good.

    • @Romans--bo7br
      @Romans--bo7br 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim Plantenberg..... Incorrect.... they had just as much torque as any of the larger displacement 4 cycles.... what they lacked was a much smaller bore and very short "usable" stroke length.... which means slower piston speed and therefore less internal inertia. Now if you want to compare "apples to apples" - cubic in wise, lets compare a 3408 Turbocharged CAT (1099 ci) -versus- a Naturally Aspirated 8V149 (1192 ci) with only 11.6 ci more per cylinder. The single Turbo Cat would put out 525 hp and around 1680 - 1760 ft lbs of torque.... The 8V149 with smallest injectors and Naturally Aspirated was rated at 800hp and 2,240 ft lbs of torque.
