Best truck i ever had was my 74 pete cabover, cummins power, 13 speed, 4:11 rears on air. Todays trucks are junk. Thanks for the memories!!!
Right on!
Was it 24 volts
Always did love the old Petes
Hank - A couple thoughts ... Pete's w/Cummins KT450s & KT525s could be equipped with either 12V or 24V starting systems. If this is a 24V system, you'll may be able to identify it (if the truck is from the late '70s or so) by a Delco Alternator with two outputs (12V and 24V). The 12V output is near the rear of the alternator body and the 24V output is close by a little farther back on a transformer/rectifier box bolted to the back of the alternator body. Generally this configuration uses 4 batteries - two series connected batteries in parallel with another set of series batteries. These will usually have two battery cables connected to the back of the starter (these are the ground wires), two battery cables to the solenoid on the starter (from the two +24V outputs) which also connects to the 24V alternator wire, and two jumper cables which also connect to the 12V alternator output (and also provide12V power to the rest of the truck).
Depending on when the truck was built, there could be a 12V/24V series/parallel starting relay instead of the alternator described above (the relay connects batteries in series for starting and parallel for running/charging).
Since you system seems to be functional at 12V, you may just have a 12V system - if so the two wires at the back-bottom of the starter are ground cables and I think you should find two battery cables also attached to the solenoid which is near the front of the starter on top. You probably need to have a battery connected to each pair of battery cables (solenoid/ground on starter) because you need to have parallel cables to deliver enough current for the starter.
Hope you might find this useful. Sure do enjoy you channel!
I live in Germany and that as a common man. But if I were lucky enough to win the lottery, I would definitely fund the restoration of one or two of these great old trucks. So wish me luck, guys!
I'm thankful these guys do what they do. I'm to broke to restore an old cabover and I want to so bad but at least with this channel we can get virtual tours and hear them fire up. I hope there's cabover in heaven. If I make it and I pray I do
Thanks for sharing, Hank and Wily! We appreciate everything you do! 👍😎 Have a Happy Thanksgiving!! 🍗🦃
Thank you sir! Same to you
That truck setup with the equipment, tool boxes and all is sweet 😍. I'd love to have one of those for myself. Good work guys, going to take me a couple of days to get through this length video, which I appreciate.
yes sir...loop it while you cut firewood :)
Hi Hank and Wiley. You have a 12/24 system. You need 24 volts to the starter and then 12 volts to the rest of the electrical system.
1976 Peterbilt I was 16 I was running Florida with a brother-in-law out of New York learn to drive a 13 speed Road Ranger to this day I say It's the Best Transmission I ever made
Love watching these videos of will it start I would love to fly over and join you guys in trying to get these old girls started I have never done anything like this before but would love to try it love the old American trucks 👍👌
Hank, you need to put one of those farm Jack's, railroad jack in your truck. You can always use one to raise the cabs on those trucks.
❤😂 All you can do is give your best shot at whatever your doing that's what counts..❤🎉... thanks guys for the video 📸📸.... JJ...😊😊
Uh, Hank, a doghouse is the engine cover between the seats, not the bunk. And that truck is a pre 1981, it has the round, better looking headlights.....
that's exactly what I was talking about lol. However, with the bunk could be the doghouse if the situation warranted it :) LOL
That depends if you’re sleeping in it because your wife has thrown you out 🤣🤣
I'm thankful these guys do what they do)))
Love classic trucks.
Why do people abandon these trucks dont take much to keep them running and in decent shape. All that money just rotten away in fields blows my mind
Yes, I agree.
Trucks, cars and another mechanism made for work.
Drive it or sell it.
Yea ur not the only one that thinks that. I agree with you.
I very much agree. I wish I could rescue all the Cabovers. But I can't haha. My budget is still. Matchbox and Hot Wheels 😂 Maybe when my kids are grown up I can have a Sunday Truck. I have a Caleb at home too hahaha. My father drove many different trucks when I was younger. Cabovers we're always my favorite 😁
It's a sure bet that you have never owned a big truck.
Problem is DOT regulations for these trucks. You may not be able to get these trucks up to current DOT standards to be able to run them. None of these could even get close to run in California and may other states. So what can you do with them if you can't operate them?
You boys come a long way. From a bent screw driver and a crescent wrench , to that truck full of nice tools. Nice video.
Happy Thanksgiving to Wiley.. Hank and everyone there that make these videos so interesting...
Hank I want to tell you thank you very much for your service in the Army an God bless you
Happy Birthday Hank!!!
Thank you sir!
Wiley that filter and pump next to fuel tank is the primer for the fuel and the lever on the front that hank moved is usually a selector for either tank to prime from one tank or the other.
We are very, very, very excited, just jumping up-and-down excited...... Please start, please start .... 😂
Tricia Anderson Farmers Insurance made a donation to the scholarship fund. We look forward to seeing a young person get their schooling funded.
Thank you so much. We truly appreciate it.
It.s nice you guy.s bring boy along you guys are the best.
Great 👍 having a young lad with you he will learn plenty 👍 good morning hank and waly one of my favourite American trucks a cab over 👍 we had a few in UK 🇬🇧 mostly in Australia and newzealand
Hank and willy i enjoy your show all the best from Australia
Assistindo aqui direto do Brasil 🇧🇷
I Wanted To Hear It Start Up And Run
Happy Thanksgiving fellas. Love the tenacity
""Thank you sir, may i have another"
Wiley was reading my mind, when he said that movie line.
Great video, guys.
A lot of effort went into this one great try great video thanks Hank and Wylie
Thanks 👍
And your subscribers appreciate your APPRECIATION Hank, that's all. Thank you.
Hank, you have alot of plugs with you in your truck, 2 wrenches and a pair of vice grips. 1 wrench on top of hose 1 on bottom and vice grip them together. thanks fellas been a watcher for along time.
My name is Rodney from somerset ky
I drove a 69 cabover Pete just like that one, only difference was mine had a 318 Detroit with a 4+4 transmission back in the late 70s, Enjoy y’alls videos from central Florida. If you look in the sleeper you’ll see the air intake tube
Hey Hank hi Wily, Hank you need to put a aluminum checker plate sheet on your tail gate , it would make it easier to slide stuff in and out
Have Happy Thanksgiving Hank and Wiley!! God Bless y'all and stay safe!! Great video y'all, good times and a new learning opportunity!!
hey Caleb you stumped Hank twice good job Hehe
Great video as always! Love these old trucks. Hate to see them rotting away. Happy Thanksgiving to both of you!!!
Hank, on a cab over you should place the strap over the cab to get leverage with a long strap and it will not pull on the window post.
part two is needed. batteries are either dead or it’s a 24 volt system
You guys can get it going y’all need a part 2 that’s all. Take them batteries charge em up spray that starter with wd40 let it soak then try again don’t give up that fast it has potential to start.
You are my boys ❤ love you ❤️ keep up the good work 👍❤️
Thankyou for the videoes guys!! Keep up the Great work!!
Thanks!
I joined the ARMY in 74 retired in 95, when I left most trucks were COE when I came back most had hoods the KW anteater was the newest trucks on the roads. Lost my CDL in 2021 due to health reasons. Would love an old COE but think the DOT might frown on the lack of CDL. LoL
Another fine "Will it tilt" video
Something about those old Pete COE’s!
For sure
As per the last video where you tried to pull the cab over - put the strap over the top of the cab to avoid damaging the A-pillars and make the pull from 2-3 times further away to pull forward rather than downwards.
I was yelling that as they ran the strap through the cab....... Sketchy!!!!
Hi hank and Willie from west Alabama hugs
Wiley, should have put his hand on it, And said "HEAL". Bet it would have started then.
lol
Hopefully you do a second video on this truck this it seems like it needs more work done on it Happy Thanksgiving
Wiley get hank to jump the starter buddy. Come on hank suck it up brother 😂😂
Very good job and God bless y'all
You guys worked your butts off on this one. Hank, I thought for sure you and Wiley would get it running. Good job, anyways buddy 👍
Yeah this was a tough one for sure! Thanks buddy
I drove a 82 just like that one with a 350 Cummins and a 13 speed at a past job. Was kind of wore out but would never die
Have a Happy Thanksgiving Hank and Wiley.
Same to you!
That door put a cargo strap around it and pull it open with your truck just busting balls I love the entertainment
Great video!
Hopefully you will have better luck with the next one
God Bless!
happy thanksgiving to you all
Today is my birthday. Just turned 38.
happy Birthday!
@@HamiltonvilleFarm thank you.
Thanks for another great video Hank and Wiley and Caleb.
It was interesting.
I am sorry that this truck would not start. You all put a lot of effort into it but no go.
Both of the trucks on this property did not want to come to life again. Sorry guys.
You all put your best into it. Some just are not going to go.
Thanks to all of you. Thanks to the dad for buying you all lunch. Is a very nice gentleman from what we saw of him in the video. Thank you sir.
Thanks. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.
For sure. Thank you for watching Mr Steve.
Hank I think 🤔 you can get it running 🏃♀️
That woodpecker does sound like a fuel pump 😂
If that truck was parked in 1991 then it hasn't been sitting for 20 years the truck has actually been sitting for 30+ years .
Wily it looked like you was listing to the engine heartbeat .lol
gotta make sure the rack is free so you don’t have a run a way. earl and some vice grips move back n forth
If I remember correctly, in a cab over you climb over the doghouse to get in the coffin
Go for it guys
Ya'll do have a safety bar when you crawl under the cab to work, don't you? Something stronger then a cheap strap, nine lives if you are a cat. Great videos be safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!
There is two rams one each side that was a cab jack he was pumping to but was not releasing he removed the brackets to the cab old was surprised that the windscreen did not come out on the ground really .
The top back portion of the cab will work as a fulcrum and will pull the cab over much easier without damaging the cab
Hope you guys had the local fire department on standby with the jaws of life when Wiley was trying to get in there😂😂😂
lol
Prairie Grove Arkansas. It's right around Fayetteville Arkansas close to the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line.
@38:00 looks like the "Philadelphia Experiment" Wylie shifted in time/space.
Be sure if you didn't already, put a bar or something under that cab in case that strap came loose.
more Caleb videos.Hello from romania
Thank God for Wily!
See my dad has been there done that I was raised on a dairy farming Upstate New York in the 60s to the mid-70s and he lost almost everything
I actually lived in Prairie Grove for a while. Prince Trucking, they had like 15 trucks at one point. They went out of business in the early 90s i think.
Prairie Grove, AR.
Wish I had a cab over that will motivation for me to get my class a cdl
Hey Hank, just wondering, what happened to your father in law being on the videos? I remember seeing him a few years back and always enjoyed seeing him work with y'all. Keep up the good work brother!
He's just getting old.
Hank, its Prairie Grove, Ar
Wiley you know Hank if you say something about buying lunch he will throw you a can of potted meat and one slice of bread.😂
most semi trucks takes two 12 volt battery's in order to start.
Excellent video Hank :) , Wiley:), Caleb :) , Mr. CRAIG :) also think may need clutch pedal in help starting up motor and transmission in Netural too would help guys out ! Also think should try that and dog house over transmission hump in middle Hank and back is bunk !
Very cool
I got a idea to help yall get the cabs up use a bottle jack and some 4x4 posts
The green machine, will you guys do a video on that? That would be awesome yet widely in the mood to do it
Wiley said, if I get stuck don’t call 911….call Door Dash for Dairy Queen delivery!!!!😂
Shake hands with danger....👌
It's holly Grove, Arkansas
The ladder inside that thing is so you can go upstairs...😮
Not sure but maybe both cab locks needed to be locked in order for the starter to engage to turn it over as a safety measure! Just a thought!
Good video you and Wiley gave it a good shot some times that's just the way it goes
Hank, next time you have a hydraulic leak like this, clamp it with vise grips!
Put a block of wood or something to keep it from falling
Y'all need to go back to normal semis instead of cabovers. Takes you longer to get the cab jacked up than it does to find out if it'll start. 😄
Could be a blown main fuse or something that’s why you not gitn power to rest of stuff
Dried out hydraulics? Been a minute since that was topped off 🙂
Wiley could you possibly get to the starter if you pull the Dog House off😮
