Great content. Short and to the point. I cut out all sugar from my diet, including processed /ready meal foods. I also fast for a full 16 hours a day, eating nothing after a cooked from scratch dinner until a wholesome salad lunch the following day. Not only has my weight gone down to what it was in my youth, and stayed down, I don't crave food in the mornings anymore. Fasting is nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. My energy levels are great and this is a long-term lifestyle change I can easily live with.

Liver damage (caused by 'fatty liver' and evidenced by high AST and ALT enzymes in the blood, for example) often goes hand-in-hand with insulin resistance, diabetes and obesity. Fasting empties the liver of glycogen (long chains of glucose enclosing water molecules), and then begins metabolising fat deposits in and around the liver (as well as from elsewhere), giving the liver a chance to repair itself and recover. A low-carb diet and a varied regime of fasting (sometimes OMD, sometimes 36 or 72-hour fasts) did wonders for my liver - dramatically reduced AST and ALT back to normal levels - as well as helping me lose 15 kg. (The only negative is that people say fasting is free, but they forget to factor in the cost of new clothes, 🤣 )

Humans were never designed to handle the amount of carbs that are consumed on a typical standard diet. As a result, humans are developing Insulin Resistance without even knowing it, which in my opinion, is the #1 driver of health issues in this country. The more awareness that is brought to the forefront on this matter, the better off we'll all be.

Diabetes is so common in the Philippines. Tropical fruits like mangoes are sugar dense and weirdly, sugar is added to foods like bread. White rice is very quickly converted to sugar.
You will have to work extra hard to keep your blood sugar in check.

yes, religious devotional practices that rein in our eating for a period are actually a great help. The Christian period of Lent can be a period of fasting, but at least is meant to be a period of giving up rich foods and eating more lightly. Also, I understand when Muslims fast, they fast all day; then when they break the fast at sundown they break it with family and friends where possible so it is a time to connect with others and not just stuffing your face because you didn't eat all day. It is very intentional, to remember the poor who have no food, and maintain connection with members of the faith now, before, in the future. That is my understanding.

@sandraproctor854 you sound rather ignorant and judgemental. Try and find out the answer to the question by fasting with us in ramadan . See what we eat . It’s not junk and depending where u are in the world the fast is 18 hours and even longer at times . Also it’s an absolute fast , no drinking or snacking at all not like intermittent fasts where some liquid is allowed. So just because you read the word islam or muslim doesn’t give you the right to make flippant comments. Educate yourself by allowing yourself fo be less judgemental . Peace

I’m under stress from divorce of a narcissist and verbal abuse, selling the selling the house for money to leave. I don’t sleep at night constantly peeing. I didn’t eat in day but ate at night.
Before the diabetes I lost 40 lbs cut sugar low carbs , quit smoking and stopped pain pills so I’d be healthy to move. I’m 60 , married 26 years, I just wanted to feel good. He failed at selling the house so I took him to court for contempt a year had passed. I got my power back and took control back. So you can imagine my stress.
I need to get on track and be serious with the diabetes consistently. I’ll have my own place soon and take care of me mind body and spirit.

I argued with my Doctor who was a PA. She said my Tryclycerides were high. And I explained yes, I have been drinking coke a lot lately in the hot weather, and needed to stop. She said no it's your blood fat and you need to cut out cheese, meat, butter, and other fatty foods. So I said test me again in a couple months. So she scheduled me for another blood test in 3 months. So I cut out sugar for 6 weeks, and ate tons of steak, burgers, grilled cheese, and only used half and half in cereal, and in my coffee😂. I went back and my triglycerides had dropped from 315 to 128 in just 6 weeks with no sugar. She laughed, and said that's good, but your cholesterol was high. 😂😂😂😂. But I proved my point. Sugar, sugar, sugar. Only way to beat it is to work out so much that you burn it as soon as it goes in the body.

I controlled mine for 4 yrs with a very low carb diet. I didn't eat a cookie for 3 months. I lost 25#. Despite this regimen I developed insulin resistance anyway. I do have to use medications now but have kept my weight steady and my A1C below 7 for the last 20 yrs. I could do better but hell I enjoy a bowl of ice cream and some fries once in a while and enjoy every morsel.

@@darkl3ad3rI really don't believe this person did low carb and really tried. Many people don't want to give up a certain ways of life and in the result they end up having to be on meds and not being able to get out of their condition because they weren't willing to change. I know this all too well

@@heidilefevre2680 I actually do believe them. I did keto for a long time and kept carbs to 20g or less a day. Most days 5g or less. I was keeping track of blood glucose and it was amazing on keto but soon as I started eating carbs again my BG was horrible. And I read around online it seems the excess fat messes up insulin sensitivity.

Great that intermittent fasting works well for you. I did it for about 5 years or so and it completely ruined my body. When breaking my fast each day I loaded up on junk food and alcohol. My alcoholism and insulin sensitivity got worse with Intermittent Fasting. Later, I also discovered that my body especially hands and feet would get really cold while fasting. Coupled with cold urticaria which I also suffer from, my feet would turn purple and extremely itchy during the winter months. Needless to say, I had to give up Intermittent Fasting.

You mean lemon and apple cider vinegar spikes your blood sugar?? I do that all the time! I’m going to test my levels in the morning for one hour thru 3 hours. I guess it’s true that individual results vary.

I've had moments when I wake up with my blood sugar elevated...I'm slowly ridding my life of junk foods, some I thought were semi ok. A cookue once on a while, cereal oncevon a while. Aside from blood sugar I have occasional Candida flare with yeast infections, that now my Husband too is affected. So we are looking at a cleansing diet very close to Keto & Carnivore:
    The MEVY diet:
    Meat
    Eggs
    Veggies (non starchy)
    Yogurt
Once the yeast is growing in the body it raises ones blood sugar without even eating. But, fasting then going back on the correct foods for a long period of time. Possibly with the right Doctors help faster. We're giving it a try for a goal of 1 month. With hopefully energy levels returning after a few days. 🙏
