    Lived in Boulder from 1999-2015. Had my son at Boulder Foothills Hospital, and raised him there till we got priced out and moved to Denver. I cannot imagine a better place to parent a small child. Parks and playgrounds everywhere, safe hiking trails, nice neighborhoods, public places are kid friendly. Pearl Street Mall is great for kids and adults, and it’s just got beautiful views and wonderful earth energy. It’s the best place I’ve ever lived, but very expensive. I’m grateful for my time there, also did half of my undergraduate degree at CU Boulder. Beautiful campus. Honestly a magical place.

    I visited there for a day. Pretty cool town. The college kids were extremely smug however the over 30 people were very friendly and open and chill. Unfortunately it is a college town and couldn't deal with the smug kids being everywhere and expensive so I had to cross it off my list.

    I lived in Boulder for 3 years when I was in college. I can honestly say that is the most toxic and narcissistic group of people I have ever been around and I've lived all over the world. I remember I was doing a summer job delivering chairs and tables. Another guy and I were setting tables up and a car behind us pulled out of a parking spot, another car came up and that first car was in its way so they started honking their horn so the first car pulls back into their parking spot. Then it starts pulling out again and then another car shows up and again the first car is in their way so this third car starts honking their horn and they yelled at the first car that "there's other people here a$$hole." So then the first car gets frustrated and starts honking their horn and yelling, then a fourth car shows up and they start honking their horn and yelling at each other. Had they just let this guy pull out of the parking spot he was in all of them would be on their merry way living their lives instead they chose to sit there and be toxic to each other for a couple of minutes. That's Boulder.

    Engineering (specifically aerospace) and environmental consulting (geology, chemistry, engineering and hydrology degrees applicable) are also pretty big if you want a good paying job outside of tech. People thinking of moving there should also be aware that we really love our marijuana. If youve got little ones who you don't want being exposed to marijuana, you're going to have a hard time in Boulder. You're going to run into people smoking openly in parks, off to the side of the creek-path and pretty much anywhere that isn't on a crowded street

    I'm a Boulder resident and have lived here almost all of my life. There's lots to do here for example; I like to Paraglide, and I have smooth access to Denver using RTD Flatiron flyer to and from, I can get almost anywhere in Colorado using the bus and leaving my jeep at home. Your right for the most part. Boulder is Boulder, It is expensive here for real. If you can afford to live in Boulder your doing good on the other hand if you make under the BLN basic living needs you'll not make it if your doing the roommate situation share with someone you can trust that does pay their fair share and not leave you with their bills when they move out. Crime is crime in any city small or large lot has to do with you. So take it for what it is.

    This is my personal anecdote but most girls I met in California who are from Denver/Aurora/Boulder just seem very gregarious, outgoing, fit, and pretty. I know that's not universal of all Denver women but it's a warm perspective I have on them on top of the amazing sights and lifestyle of that area. Visited last summer and really enjoyed it, minus the meth addicts that lined the trolley system. But the homeless wasn't any worse than big cities in California. And i've seen claims that dating can be toxic there but that's just any big city. The more desirable the city, the more toxic and superficial people it will attract. And people are so much more jaded nowadays in the dating world than the past IMO

    • @destinationdenvercolorado
      @destinationdenvercolorado  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brad! There is, and there’s a great mix of locations that I think appeal to people retiring here, especially the front range. My new neighbors moved here exactly for that purpose.
      I think if you look at Colorado as a whole, it’s a great state to retire to. Denver itself tends to rank lower on lists strictly because of its cost of living rising, but it’s hard to beat as far as the balance of city and nature.

  • @krystalMtn
    @krystalMtn ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Problem is,... it's too crowded now. Used to be able to hike the mountains, before the trails were created. Forcing all nature lovers to conform to set paths that you sometimes have to pay park fees to get too. I get why, because of maitainenace and protection issues, but I do miss the days you could hike, and not see another person until you came back down. It is a city now, not the same smaller community township it once was where everyone was kind, polite, and not overtaken by students, or those with weird life theologies.

    • @destinationdenvercolorado
      @destinationdenvercolorado  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I understand where you are coming from, many of the same concerns are voiced in Denver and throughout the front range. Colorado has become a highly desired destination and unfortunately that has certainly affected population issues and no doubt how peaceful getting out on a hike and enjoying some sun is, I won’t debate that for a second. Man that story about the people in the restaurant all looking on in disgust because somebody honked their horn blows my mind lol. Having lived in NYC for the past 12 years I couldn't even imagine that haha. Boulder is beautiful and I dig the outdoorsy health culture but the people seem like uptight elitists. I have a buddy who grew up there and told me the show South Park is based on Boulder and the is a very accurate representation of the people there. I'm sure there are some cool people there also like anywhere but it definitely seems like a very weird vibe. I would imagine it's somewhat similar to Park Slope in Brooklyn but maybe even more extreme. Denver sounds much more grounded.

      Boulder officials have actively bought open land for years, and will never allow someone to build on it. The green belt as you approach the city is one of the best visuals, and they don’t want anyone messing with that. Construction in Boulder is one of the toughest challenges in the state, no doubt about it!

    • @Frenchieeeee

      @@destinationdenvercolorado Sure, until something goes wrong with the budget and they are forced to sell the land, just like with anything else. 2:00 when I was there there was a green belt surrounding Boulder which was limiting expansion and keeping it nice is it still that way.
    If you can tolerate the nonsense, and a lot of weird behavior. Maybe it's not such a bad place. But there's a lot of obnoxious people and even snooty if you don't believe the way that they believe. And a lot of it's not even liberal it's just weird. Like headphones on the drink, that's a good example😂
    And a lot of them are phonies to say they are outdoorsy when they are not.😅 They're at home playing Xbox and smoking pot and they've never worked out in their life. It's a lot of little skinny guys that are not in shape and they're so proud of how thin they are😅

      30 minutes from South Boulder with no traffic… if you’re speeding? I make the drive routinely and 45 minutes to an hour seemed like a safe average. People live in different parts of Boulder and on the southeast side of Denver - drive times can be different. Thanks for watching!

      @@destinationdenvercolorado I've lived and owned in south Boulder since 2016, and go to Denver weekly for events on weekdays and weekends. It has never taken me past 35 minutes to get to downtown Denver from South Boulder in the Martin Acres area.
      I guess if you're talking rush hour then your assessment makes sense, but across the board you're way off.

    • @destinationdenvercolorado
      @destinationdenvercolorado  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@uneedborda Im definitely being conservative and looking at higher traffic times. I’d also rather be conservatively high - there’s times as an example that I can get from my house in Lakewood and get to DTC in 20 minutes and times where that is doubled. I can acknowledge I should have left it at about 45 minutes, an hour is excessive in most any case.
