Most audiences outside of North America actually go to watch the show and get into it. They sing along to Iron Maiden guitar solos and transitional passages all over Europe and South America too. Same with just about any rock or metal show, audiences in North America are just lame, that's all.
Two things: Is there any audience in the world that provides more real physical energy for the band to feed off of than Rio? The live version of this song will ALWAYS give me the chills.
Randy Mennie it’s the South American’s man, even in Mexico when Rodger waters did a show that got like a 200k crowd, they always just seem to have so much energy that the shows there are just so much better then most other places in the world

I've seen Rush in LA and barely anyone was jumpin and dancing around, they were bobbin their heads and tappin their feet but other than that it looked calm despite how intricate and complex their playing is. Ive also never seen the lines for the mens bathroom that long in my life... complete opposite of what typically happens
This is the most ELECTRIC crowd I have ever seen in my life. Nobody can get a group of over a hundred thousand fans in this much of a frenzy. That's RUSH. RIP NEIL 🙏.
I freaking LOVE the Brazilian people! Only in Brazil do we see such emotion and passion, whether it’s in music, Mixed Martial Arts or Battlebots. I’m always amazed at how Brazilian athletes think of their families first and foremost when they achieve riches and success. If I want t an American, I would wish to be a Brazilian! God bless you all, and RIP to Neil Peart, not just “one of the greatest drummers,” but the ALL TIME greatest drummer in rock history! He made drums an instrument, more than a metronome.
The Most enthusiastic and loudest crowds I’ve seen. And I’ve attended hundreds of concerts in the 80s-2000. I attended RUSH six times in Dallas Texas back in the day. RIP NEIL‼️

dystopic panopticon Neil is not much of a people person not many people have met him And a couple have gotten the Neil Peart cold shoulder therefore making him move further away from social interaction and that’s why you don’t see him with Alex and Geddy when they are meeting fans
From what I've read he was extremely reserved & had always felt uncomfortable with the fame/adulation that came with their success. I've also read he had some social anxiety and had a tight circle of family/friends.
He was a very secluded person, watch "Dinner with Rush" and he's just laughing throughout the entire thing. I think losing his wife and daughter might have had an affect on him. Hopefully he's reunited with his family.
This has gotta be the best feeling in the world. This has moved me to tears to see Neal Peart so alive doing what he, Alex and Geddy did so amazingly well and effortless. RIP Sir.

I got what I thought were crappy tickets to a Rush concert in Phoenix AZ. It was in the nosebleed section, but I was right above Neil! I spent the entire concert watching Neil doing his thing. I’ve seen Rush many times, but this one was different. I am so grateful for those crappy seats. I got to witness the maestro at his best. I will never, ever forget you Neil. I am so happy that you are reunited with your family. God bless you
The man was SO INTENSE! I only got to see them 22 times over the years. I know there are folks that have been to many more. Above the talent, and road wear, there is an intensity few others possess. I sometimes felt sad for Neil, as it seemed playing (because of the difficulty, time changes, etc.) it was more of "a job" for him. We know he didn't like the road. But, after he lost so much love in his life, after Vapor Trails, I would watch him and, I don't know, it appeared to me that he was just going through the motions. But, I think he is the most intense man, I never met.
That's one song. All of that energy to play one song. Regardless of what shape he's in, he must have been exhausted and sore at the end of those shows. Once the tendonitis grew, it must have been quite painful to play that hard.
Rush was loved the world over and there music as can be seen was energizing. Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart who was the greatest drummer in history, are Rock legends.

Once I saw how electric the crowds were I understood. Singing along, the whole bit. Some of the best fans to play for. Rush is just a natural choice for those fans.
Long ago....after dinosaurs roamed the earth but before our most recent foray into a reality show presidency....a young and precocious boy bought an album. That's right, boys and girls, a 33 1/3 long playing album that you actually had to turn over to play the other side. And on this album the boy heard the sound of God. And the sound was good and pure and strong in its essence. And the boy listened to that album over and over and over again until one day the boy decided to try and make those sounds himself. At first the boy failed utterly....until one day it all became clear. Now that boy is a 54 year-old man whose had a wonderful career as a session drummer and percussionist. That boy? He is me. And the album? Rush's 2112. Thank you, Neal. Your sound will live FOREVER.
I remember seeing Rush at the Lakeland Civic Center in 85.' They each perform a solo. As Neil Peart went into his drum solo, I remember very vividly asking myself..."there's only 1 person on percussion, right?" Because it sounded like an entire group of drummers. Then they played YYZ. The concert was a masterpiece.
I saw them in Cleveland when they were doing all of Moving Pictures :) It was impossible not to sing along to every song, and I thought it was hilarious when everyone was singing to YYZ (myself included XD)
To hear that, to see those people so bonded to the band as their own - it grows beyond music into something that strikes me as being spiritual. I find myself crying when I watch this. It is moving.

To say that I am obsessed with music would be an understatement and I am a complete sucker for a great live performance - I think it shows whether the musicians can really cut it, or not. Back in 2010 I was lucky enough to be at Opeth's 20 year anniversary gig at the Royal Albert Hall in London, but I hardly ever listen to the live album or watch the DVD because nearly every song is ruined by people clapping when they shouldn't be fucking clapping! Especially during the quiet, atmospheric passages in Opeth's songs, of which there are many. However, the crowd in this footage are superb and they actually add to the energy of the performance. I don't own a copy of this DVD but I'm definitely going to get one after watching this.

Chanting crowd like at a typical World Cup Soccer game only we know what they are chanting! Imagine the Brazilians there being mesmerized by Rush’ appearance. They had never seen them live before in Brazil. Grab the dvd. The whole concert is a must watch! Neil’s drumming marked an epoch in music history and will never be duplicated.

They had never seen them live before in Brazil. Grab the dvd. The whole concert is a must watch! Neil’s drumming marked an epoch in music history and will never be duplicated.
