      Exactly, it's orchestrated and has layers. Show me another drummer that had superior leg/arm independence like this. He can play one beat with his hands and play different with his feet. He's not the fastest but he's one of the best composer the drumming world ever had. He's your favorite drummer favorite drummer.

      The only thing is is Neil didn’t believe in God and he used his influence to “inspire” others via music, to express why he felt that way. Neil has been my favorite drummer for decades but there’s so many different things to write about. Why religion. His spiritual relationship (or lack there of) was his business so I never understood why he wrote about it so frequently unless it was to influence others into thinking the same way.

      @@apieceofdirt4681 Perhaps Neil would agree with Carl Sagan on spirituality, quoth: ‘Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. So are our emotions in the presence of great art or music or literature, or of acts of exemplary selfless courage such as those of Mohandas Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr. The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive does a disservice to both.’

You have never forgotten - never - why you are where you are. It is us - your fans - who has always seen you for who you are. There are not many bands on this earth who can say that it is their fans who placed them in halls of greatness as opposed to greedy promoters who wanted to tell us what what we appreciated. It is your music and your heart that will echo through the time of future fans yet to be who will truly appreciate RUSH. We thank you for all you have given us - and we "know" - you thank us for all we have given you. Enjoy your retirement - no-one has genuinely earned it more than you. @Frankincensed I feared that as well especially when Neil said publicly that even a bulldozer couldn't drag him from his house in Quebec. That's the bad news. The good news is that the house is equipped with a professional recording studio that he had arranged to install there. If you don't plan on keeping to play for the public you don't put that much money in such gear, instead you get yourself a small personal studio. Not saying that Rush would reunite there but it's possible that Neil plans on going solo with session musicians, sort of like Simon Phillipps did after leaving Toto. So there is hope we'll hear again from The Professor.

    Neil Peart stole the show. The man is a drumming genius. The guy has amazing chops, but the best part is his drum solos aren’t really about showing off as much as honoring the history of drums itself, everything from marching band snare, Keith Moon tom work, John Bonham triplets, African rhythms, Buddy Rich jazz; the guy put it all into his solos and that’s what makes him the GOAT.

    I remember this solo from the tour. We've lost so many great performers in the past year. Neil's passing was not how I wanted to ring in this new decade. He was a true inspiration. I can only hope that this brings out more talent and showmanship in others to step up and give me another phenomenal drummer to follow. I have a top 3; now 2. Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Gavin Harrison...not in particular order. Someone needs to fill these concrete shoes now he's gone. I actually cried learning Neil's passing. I don't weep for celebs or limelight has-beens. But this guy's death got to me. I say limelight not as a pun or play on words, but in general. It's time to give credit where credit is due. Ricky Gervais was spot on!

    At 5.50 where Neil goes into that 3/4 Waltz time signature…bass drum right foot, hi hat left foot keeping the basic waltz 3/4 beat, but then he goes on to demonstrate the most mind blowingly difficult & incredible 4 way independence (4 limb independence)…it is simply off the scale that each limb is independent of the other….truly the sign of a master player in his prime…RIP Legend.

      In my opinion, Neil has real dilemma regarding playing / retirement. It is so incredibly difficult to play drums and percussion with pain. From personal experience, I know that it is. I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and have played drums for a lot of years. The more time goes by, the harder it gets. Neil is one of the greatest drummers in the world which is difficult enough for someone who is pain free. Add the pain with the level of intensity that he plays at, and it becomes almost impossible. I imagine that he would not want to hold back and try to make it easier. It's not his style! Like everyone else, I wish him the best. God willing, there will be a cure for whatever he has that allows him to play again pain free!!

    Traditional grip! This must have been right after he studied with Freddie Gruber.

    • @LS-ki9ft
      @LS-ki9ft 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Traditional grip, in my view, is the best. Buddy Rich always stressed traditional grip on the drum set. I have always felt that matched grip deadens the sound; whereas, traditional grip allows a drummer to lift the note out of the drum. I believe that is what Gruber was trying to illustrate to Neil. That is why, and I am a big John Bonham fan, I believe that Bonham had a flat sound to his drumming. Bonham was creative and that is why I like him.

    • @ray32245mv
      @ray32245mv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@LS-ki9ft Gruber thought the whole match vs trad grip was pointless. It doesn't matter. If you get a better feel for certain pieces of music using a trad grip, you should use that grip. Same for match. That's what Gruber taught. Neil was having some sort of epiphany and decided to focus on trad grip while studying with Gruber. And then he said fuck it and went back to playing match on most of their sets, especially their older stuff. And no, trad grip does not "lift the note out of the drum". Quit being gey. What it does is facilitate left hand independence on the snare, especially with press rolls, and ghost strokes, while the right hand is punctuating the patterns. This was developed when snare drums were slung to the left side of a marching drummer. Since we have drums at a 180* arc in front of us now, many of us prefer not to handicap ourselves on the right side of the kit. However, depending on the piece, say, some big band with lots of work on the snare, trad grip may be the wisest choice.

    • @LS-ki9ft
      @LS-ki9ft 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your feedback. You're correct that it is a matter of opinion and style. Your opinions are yours, which I respect; however, if you are going to address my comments with vulgarity, please spell the word "gay" correctly. Using vulgarity, shows your inability to express your thoughts in a respectful manner, which lowers your credibility with me. I will go on your word with regards to what Gruber said regarding the trad vs match grip debate. However, Buddy Rich was adamant about using traditional grip on the drum set. Therefore, once again, it is a matter of style and opinion. Thanks again for your feedback. Have a nice day. @@ray32245mv

    • @ray32245mv
      @ray32245mv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@LS-ki9ft "gay" is one thing, "gey" is being, oh shit i dunno, "dainty" and "whimsical" and slightly "effeminate" about matters which require or respond to none of those things. Trad grip doesn't "lift the note out of the drum". I just cannot let such a (gey) statement stand there, without saying something, because I think it's funny. Ooops! Not THAT kind of "funny", but kinda, meh, fuck it. Anyway, Buddy Rich never said that, or anything like that. He would probably slap someone for saying that and tell them to stop being (gey)! So far as Gruber, Neil says, on "A Work in Progress" that when he asked Gruber about match vs trad, Gruber totally dismissed it out of hand, and said it didn't matter, so that's where I'm "pulling" (fuck me, so vulgar, jezuzchrist), that information from. Now see I could really "take it up a notch", and "dig deep" into how important the "grip on my stick" is, but I'll just go ahead and 'LEAVE THAT THING ALONE".

    If anyone has any questions about what a percussionist is, I think this gentleman here can answer them. He is the number one percussionist ever, but other drummers can’t drum half as well as he can either!!!! To be the best you have to be able to play everything, just look at the drum set John Bonham used, and you’ll see how extremely limited he was, so all he could basically do was drum!!!! That’s fine for some people but not for me, Billy Bruford inspired Neil Peart, and he is on the par of drumming that I like, Especially in King Crimson and Yes!!! Neil Peart is just like percussion on steroids!! I am so surprised he was able to play that style of drumming for so many years!!! Rest In Peace Neil, as you truly were the best there was, the best there is , and the best that will ever be!!!!!!!

      I agree and I also don’t want to forget GOAT PEART’S other Influence, Bill Bruford King Crimson and Yes!!! These 2 Drummers influenced Neil, and are fantastic at their Craft No Doubt!!! Carl Palmer’s Style and his fit into ELP’s Genre of Progressive Rock, King Crimson, Yes , and Rush all share that same Genre!!! Check Out the Video on You Tube Of Bill Bruford Tony Levin, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew King Crimson’s Best Line Up , Video is for the song Elephant Talk , and is taken from some sort of TV Show. The very beginning features, Bill Bruford doing Percussion,and Tony Levin, who plays the Chapman Stick Bass🎸🎸 Carl Palmer worked with in my opinion and others The GOAT Keyboardist Keith Emerson. The Greatest Feature Of Rush, was their 2 GOAT Line up ( Alex Lifeson is in the top 5 GOAT Guitarists) Inspired by Carl Palmer and Bill Bruford Neil, The Professor Metronome Peart . Geddy Lee The GOAT Bassist. Lee knew and spoke of it once in an interview that Keith Emerson was the GOAT. Lee when asked about playing more and more keyboards in Rush, he responded “ I am no Keith Emerson.” I say Correct but, Keith Emerson was no Geddy Lee Either. Lee is one of the best Prog Rock Musicians in History. First His Bass Playing , next he is singing lead vocals while playing fantastic chops, and runs on his bass guitar. Next level singing, those impossible dictionary definition needed lyrics written by Mr. Peart, simultaneously playing his bass guitar. Switching to keyboards at will and playing pedals with his feet. When you combine all of that, it’s similar to all the drums symbols, xylophone, wooden blocks tubular bells, chimes etc everything that the percussionist Neil Peart used in his career, and it’s easy to see why the two of them are GOAT in Percussion and Bass Guitar!!! Les Claypool Fantastic Bassist and founder of Prog Rock’s Primus, has patterned himself after his idol Geddy Lee, Claypool Sings Lead Vocals while playing Bass , but not nearly the difficulty of lyrics for Claypool as Geddy Lee has to endure with Neil’s . However, I consider Claypool top five bassist🎸🎸🎸
