Seeing Bernal attack was amazing to see. I don't expect him to really challenge for the podium at a grand tour still yet, but I would love for him to win a stage
From Mads P's interview on Danish TV right after the finish: »A few matches were burned today, so it's going to be tough, and I might have burned one too many. But when Remco attacks, you really need to keep your arms and legs inboard.«
With all the talk of the big showdown in the TdF between the big riders, Roglic still needs to overcome his biggest historical issue....staying upright.
i think egan is up against much tougher competition this time around; he beat thomas in a tour with shortened stages and thomas told to hold back from chasing his team mate of course.
King Kooij keeps winning, impressive showing, beating another powerhouse in Trek's Mads Pedersen. Visma- Lease a Bike finding ways to win without Rogla. Miss the legend.
Hmm, in my opinion Remco was grandstanding in his attacks on Roglic - clearly trying to intimidate him psychologically and lay down a marker of his form a bit like Tadej did in Stade by soloing from 80 km out - there was no point other than telling the world you are definitely in the top 5 of the peloton. Let’s see if Remco has the same form on the hard last two days. Roglic typically rides into form.
Remco just likes to race, he always rides like this, nothing to do with Roglic. Imo this why Algarve felt weird to me, since he waited for the sprint 2 times (2nd time maybe forced due to the gear mechanical).
Michael Mathews one of the old guard sprinters still right up there! We got to give him props for doing it on his own. Does he have any one to help lead him out?
Matthews us more than a sprinter. He allways good in hilly stages in pays basque. We're talking about someone that can still win something like Amstel Gold race and have a top 10 in LBL.
Bernal IS BAAAAACK! This time for fun. with caustion to the wind the new mindset of almost losing it all ,every chance is full gas.. he will be winning.
Remco was hoping to get some support in the attack and winning this 1st stage. What was he thinking? According to him, that was his teams plan? He probably meant his plan.
Yeah since he was only 10th and also the likes off Sam Bennett were still in the group but there legs were empty. I was surprised Kooij won this stage (that he got over those hills was the real wow) and Démare getting dropped in such a small hill was also weird. He's normally one off the sprinters that rides good over (small) hills.
the lotto boys should've rode if de lie got dropped they got a chance if he's still there he can just sit in. and remco would've pulled super hard for gc so that way lotto could've won. I mean not sure if they got away but could've been a chance.
Backing Remco. Roglic beat him in 2023 using smarts. I’m going to predict the balance of power shifts in Remco’s favour in 24. Also, I’ll predict the BIG 4 in 2024 GC will be Vingegaard, Pogacar, Evenpoel & Ayuso by the year’s close. Ayuso emergence will be the narrative. The interesting thing will be what Red Bull /Bora do next… The potential RB investment sounds as though Ineos/Visma/UAE unless they get extra could have €10 million less in their budget per year. Perhaps Roglic will be the elder statesman of the RB project rather than le grand boucle victor?
Old ceo/owner of jumbo stepped down from his ceo position after the dutch tax authority started to investigate him for money laundering. New ceo doesnt wanna pump millions into cycling anymore.
I still can't properly pronounce cian uijtdebroeks------other than on a keyboard------obviously 😅 and yes I know he's doing tirrenao adriatico -----maybe I've got that wrong 😅
Roglic was in Remco's wheel and had to initially drop a gap, slot in behind FFB for 15" and then another 15" to close 5-10m, to say he closed it easily is definitely not correct. And yeah, staying in the saddle was the point, to get less drag. All the other riders did also?
Same with Démare getting dropped on small hills. He normally is one off the last sprinters to getting dropped. We will see tomorrow if it's a mass sprint if he at least has his sprinter legs.
Crazy attack until if wasn’t. I like Remco , when Roglic is not racing. You guts are the biggest Eeeeeevvbeeeenepol fanboy. Sadly can’t climb up there to the mountain goat, not with that muscle mass he wants to keep for Tt and solo flat escapes. Vingego will show them all again how it’s done
He's only a little bit smaller than Pogacar and weighs less. I don't know where people keep getting it from that Remco is too heavy/muscled to be a climber. He has already done top level climbing performance, he just needs more consistency.
@@smeetsnoud1 Chris Horner is fantastic at creating the story of a race, capturing the mood, and finding interesting nuance. Nobody even comes close. I think a written script would make him dull and bland like all the rest.
Roglic will only ever sit on. He will never win another Tour of any consequence. If anyone looks at him funny he crashes and he is too negative, deep down he knows he is finished and is just hoping the rest of us don't notice.
Terrible take. Sounds like you're projecting your views here rather than constructive criticism. You are assuming he cares what "the rest of us think" but in reality he's a champion and will do what is required to try to win the tour. The arrogance.
Maybe not for all,but at least for the most prominent riders you can make a minimal effort to pronounce their names a bit better.Reducing all names to you own accent does not give you many points on my respect list.
@@AZ-vg6liHe nearly always calls him Remco... and sure the poel sounds a bit too much like pole, but damn you're complaining over almost nothing. If you wanted to be constructive you shouldn't react like that. State the name that was pronounced wrong and say how to properly pronounce it in a polite manner.

love to see Bernal cycling like this

I was so happy to see him in GC.
me too ❤🇨🇴
He is rocking!!!!!!@@pk-production5134

Pretty dodgy move by the Jumbo rider!
Seeing Bernal attack was amazing to see. I don't expect him to really challenge for the podium at a grand tour still yet, but I would love for him to win a stage
Bernal coming fully back to form sometime in the future looking more and more realistic right now
From Mads P's interview on Danish TV right after the finish:
»A few matches were burned today, so it's going to be tough, and I might have burned one too many.
But when Remco attacks, you really need to keep your arms and legs inboard.«
Was saying that to my wife as I watched the race yesterday. That there’s some matches burned.
7:11 holy hell that shoulder barging meant it
lifetime ban right there
Crazy year comming up in cycling !!
Looking like the best year ever right??!!!
the crazy year has already started with pogacar winning by such a huge gap in strade bianchi.
Wow, thanks for that summary of the race. The highlights of some other sports channel didn't even show that there was some gc fight already going on.
So happy to see Bernal back, such a classy rider
Roglic is a cool cat. Seems like a genuinely nice guy.
A nice guy but not the most attractive cyclist. But that’s his right
Remco gonna Remco.
such awesome coverage, thanks Lanterne Rouge team!
With all the talk of the big showdown in the TdF between the big riders, Roglic still needs to overcome his biggest historical issue....staying upright.

Cheers love, let's get back to to it, thanks for the content 🎉
Cracking stage. Was not expecting this at all in what was billed as a sprint stage. LFG!
I always love when you saying Remco EEEEEEEEEVVVENNNNNNEPPPOOOOOOEEEEEELLLLLLLL
Bernal looking exciting this year
They actually provided a decent finish photo!
It' was like profesional! I wonder how long it took them to post it?
With the name "Eekhoff" you can hit the 'K' really hard, that will make it sound like how the Dutch say it, like: "aiK - hoff"
The Van Dijke twins are some big aggressive boys, not a bad duo leading you into the finish.
King Kooij keeps winning, impressive showing, beating another powerhouse in Trek's Mads Pedersen. Visma- Lease a Bike finding ways to win without Rogla. Miss the legend.
Looking forward to this year's cycling events. It's like waiting for a feast.
Solid race 👏

Matthews us more than a sprinter. He allways good in hilly stages in pays basque. We're talking about someone that can still win something like Amstel Gold race and have a top 10 in LBL.
Pedersen is a beast to get such a weak lead out to the sprint and still almost hold it. His 30 second to 1 min power is just wild.
Great stage - lots of action... doubt it will be repeated tomorrow on the pan-flat parcours unless a gale is blowing.
Another trademark excellent synopsis
So cool to see the peleton absolutely smashing refined sugar at the highest hourly rate we have seen in pro cycling.
Nice ad finally, congrats
It’s shaping up to be a great 2024.
It’s going to take a long time to get used to seeing Roglic in green.
Not difficult for true Froglic fans
so happy for Eganito
Mads Pedersen spending so much unnecessary energy earlier chasing Remco, I think he would have won without it.
100% agreed i think he got antsy knowing this finish suits him and he was worried remco might go alone
Vamoooossssss Egan step by step!!!!

Classic attack by Evenepoel to get a few seconds, undoubtedly the Jalabert of this decade in that aspect.

I agree, though they might still have believed they were protecting De Lie's sprinting chances and maybe they just couldn't.
Love Roglic but his group bunch instincts/bike-handling and associated crashes have prevented him from achieving his potential
