    This week we present to you the new look, build, setup of Albatross a.k.a Albo, the Land Rover Defender 110! The vehicle is ready for a 3 year world tour, departure in 6 days! Nicolas will introduce you to setup.
    But this video for us is more than presenting you a simple car. Why? Because for us it is more like touring our future home. 🚘🔜🏠And that’s how we picked Albo: so it provides what we would need to be able to consider it our home. Thinking about it, we have moved houses multiple times in the past years that it could actually be the place where we end up living for the longest without interruption !
    Our criteria list ? A place to stay warm when it’s cold, a roof over our heads when it rains, some shade when sun burns, a warm shower once in a while, enough fuel and water containers to travel far and beyond and a plug or two to charge our phones 📱(#90skids 🙋🏼🙋🏼‍♀️). Albo is some sort of a condensed version of what of real house could provide. A kind of Swiss knife in fact !
    So enjoy the tour and welcome home - Share some love and ideas in comments to help us make it optimal for our project !
    Music from: Epidemic Sound
    ///
    Join us as we travel the world on an expedition throughout the 7 continents, meeting new people, exploring cultures, traditions and making friends along the way.
    We are traveling in our Land Rover Defender 110 which is our full time home for the next 3 years as we explore this beautiful planet.

    I'm working on my Defender camper build as we speak (that's how I came across your video), and I have to say.. pretty sweet set-up man!! How long did it take to finish the build?

    • @NextMeridianExpedition
      @NextMeridianExpedition  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thanks, we're very happy of our set-up, but everyone has their own tastes :) It took us about 1.5 years. We bought the car with the inside Ex-Tec and pop up roof already installed, the winch aswell, the front and back bumper, the webasto heater, fridge and water tank was also already in there. I would say all that abut 4-5 months, sometimes even more I bet to get it ordered and get a installation date at a garage. Then we spent 1.5 years installing the rest over weekends but all the small final touches, like sowing the couch to have a home feeling, to get all the pouches, install the jerrycan mount and buying the right compressor etc, takes in all about 6 months if you work on it every week and you know exactly what you want to install. We took time cause we took our time to think of how we wanted the car to look and function especially for 3 years. Also we tested the car multiple times to change and improve the functionalities to just make everything more comfortable.

    Don’t go for bigger tyres. The wear and tear on suspension, wheel hubs and everything mechanic attached to the wheels is going in time laps mode comparing to the tyre sizes you’re using now. If you don’t believe it, ask Lee and Steph from grizzly&bear, some fellow explorer on a defender . They had serious issues in Central Asia with their oversized wheels

    Not sure where you are going to drive your LR but from experience you will not need half the stuff bolted to the vehicle. For serious offroad work less is better. It does look cool though.

    • @NextMeridianExpedition
      @NextMeridianExpedition  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, your probably right, but since we had the space we preferred being cautious. We won’t be doing serious off road with the LR as it’s our home on wheels but we’ll be going all over the world through extended lengths of remote roads and with todays fuel and water issues in some countries we’ll be happy to have those. Are you still on the road?

    In advance, have fun and good luck with your adventure.
    What is not clear to me at this time, what is that material from the Extec roof tent?
    Is this a winter version, only one window in the rear?
    If that is correct, then the heat stays in the car for a long time in summer.
    My buddy had an EXTEC roof with only one window and was constantly cursing because of the heat.
    Ours has 3 windows with mosquito netting in it, so more air passes through.
    Personally, I'm not a fan of attaching a lot of equipment to the outside of the vehicle (please take the shovel).
    Especially water supply should be protected from access, there are not only nice people on the road!
    PS: no breakdowns!

    • @NextMeridianExpedition
      @NextMeridianExpedition  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jens,
      We have 2 windows in the back. And the roof is ExTec but the tent is from RRC in Lyon. It’s not that warm in summer in there and the tent has windows with mosquitos nets as well so it’s no problem.
      We prefer keeping all outside and ‘locked’ makes the inside much more livable, but everyone’s got their preference and that’s fine. Inside we got tons of space to live ‘normally’ for 3 years which was a major importance for us. The shovel and bonnet bag we store it inside the car when we hike or park in a crowded place.

      Hi, thank you. The planning and setting up is a lot of fun. Also because there are so many products out there for Defenders.
      Sure, it’s a heat exchanger, it uses the coolant from the engine to heat up the tank. and there’s a video about the installation on our TH-cam.
      The water tank goes across the flooring at the feet of the back passengers. You’ll see on the video. Took a standard pump, I can check the brand when I get to the car.
      I got it installed by a friend, here’s his website www.roverland-expedition.be/shop-1 if you want he could help you out with the details if the video isint enough.
