@@commentscopyrightattorney5543 Please don't buy from the streets. Who knows what you'll be getting there, or what shady stuff you'll be supporting by injecting money into illegal drug trade. Low 200s is more than low enough to recommend a therapeutic dose. Maybe just talk to a different doctor, or insist on a closer look with your current one. Fertility may not even be an issue if you're not interested in having children, and the fertility side effects of low T can often be mitigated with alternate treatments or by tapering (under supervision) while trying for children. God bless.

I'm a woman who suddenly developed an anxiety disorder overnight. (I've had depression for awhile.) I was tested for everything by my GP & OB/GYN. I was found to have less than half the testosterone a woman should have. I decided to do some research on testosterone. I didn't realize that low T played such an important role in depression/anxiety disorder or that depression in men often went unrecognized due to their symptoms usually being different. I start medication next week. Good luck, guys. Maybe we'll get some relief soon.

It seems how TRT is treated unfortunately depends on what part of the US you live. Do you have any clinics specializing in male health in your area. When I lived in Midwest it was responsibility of the PCP and insurance required patients visit the office once every 2 weeks for injections. It would have added more stress to my work/family life. I now live near Boston and even though ~ 1.5 hour drive there are several wonderful doctors and clinics focused solely on male specific healthcare (prostate conditions, sexual issues, TRT). I now see them bi-annually unless need to more, just pick up my Rx (including needles, alcohol swabs, etc) at Walgreens (dirt cheap if have insurance BTW). They teach you how and when to self-inject at home. I’ve been on for 4 years and it has improved every aspect of my life.
I’m a better dad, husband, son to my elderly parents, mentally sharper, better service to my customers, employees, friends, strangers even better dad to my Dogs 😂 I had been been self-medicating w alcohol before, I noticed I quickly lost all desire to drink booze, have not touched a drop in 4 years. Even able to stop my as-needed anxiety med
PS: Unfortunately gels, patches are Not effective or close to the same. I didn’t think I could self-inject, but you Can and now I can do it in my sleep!
Thank you Dr Tracey for discussing this topic! Your videos are Great 👍

  • @Elizabeth-vh6il

Thank you for raising awareness of this issue Dr Marks. I was wondering if you knew any more details about this in pre-treatment trans women please. I started becoming depressed as soon as I hit puberty and I was on SSRIs for years. Then a routine test at a gender clinic revealed that my testosterone was 5.3nmol/l (10.2nmol/l when retested) and my endo said my testicles were abnormally soft and on one occasion my FSH and LH were not in the correct range and my prolactin was elevated. An MRI ruled out a prolactinoma. I was under 30 and not on any other medication at the time and I don't have any of the other conditions you mentioned like diabetes. The depression quickly disappeared once I got on estrogen therapy and the things I used to feel depressed about the most weren't connected to being trans. Later on I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism. But pre-transition my fertility test came back normal so I think that rules out stuff like Klinefelter's. I do have a femoroacetabular impingement and I had a missing baby tooth and a gemini tooth came through in the same position when I got my adult teeth and my aunty was born with a cleft lip, and I read that these kinds of things are sometimes associated with XYY syndrome. I've met other trans women whose depression stuck with them after starting HRT, so my case seems a bit unusual.

The important measure is Free-T, not Total-T. Measurement of it is difficult for labs. Alternatively you can measure Total-T, SHBG, and Albumin and compute Free-T from those. There is no "normal" for the level of Free-T that resolves Low-T symptoms for everybody. The majority men get resolution in the range of 20-40ng/dl, but others require over 50ng/dl, while a few can get by with less than 10ng/dl. Proper TRT requires titrating supplementation to the lowest level that RESOLVES SYMPTOMS, not to some imaginary "normal" lab numbers. Most Endocrinologists and Urologists do not have a CLUE about doing TRT properly. Neither do all men's health clinics, but some do, and those are the ones you want to find and use. Remember, proper TRT is to relieve Low-T symptoms, not a passport to legally get bodybuilding drugs for amateur athletes. Those guys use 10--50 times as many androgens as men seeking Low-t relief need.

I am 28 years old and I have 78 ng/dl. MUCH MUCH lower than the normal range and this was taken at 9am. I had a test previous and it was at 28 ng/dl. FSM, LH, TSH, and Prolactin were normal, so this is indicative of something other than a pituitary issue. I am so tired of feeling like complete trash. The problem is, I don’t want to go on TRT because it inhibits production of natural T which means I won’t have children. This happens to women too! Been on testosterone and estrogen for three years. It is a lifesaver. I can tell when my HRT pellet is wearing off. I start getting a lot of the above symptoms mentioned. The stress intolerance is horrible. Puts me in a bad mood. Once I get my new pellet, after about 4-5 days, I start coming back to life! I feel like I can handle anything. I stop “catastrophising”. This shit is real for both men and women. Oh for the ladies. Don’t be scared 😱. It’s nothing that a little Electrolysis couldn’t handle.😅

Why would you want to measure at its peak when looking for the defiancy? Surely when measuring a deficiency you look for a low point. No use something being just in normal if later it’s going to drop into sub par. Like in oil pressure in car. Not use measure the pressure at 2500 rpm if at idle the pump is crapping out and the bearings getting no oil.

    • @DrTraceyMarks
      @DrTraceyMarks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Delfin. It's hard for me to say from what you've told me. But I will say hypomania usually causes some problems at some level, but sometimes the episodes go unnoticed because it feels good. Another thing is people who spend a lot of time depressed, when they recover and are not depressed, they can question if they are manic - but really it's just that they are not depressed. Where it matters is whether you will do better with a mood stabilizer or not. Sometime people with bipolar 2 (where that hypomania may go unnoticed) will not do as well with antidepressants. I did a video comparing bipolar d/o vs depression. You should take a look. th-cam.com/video/AM7vf5HJxaQ/w-d-xo.html

I know that sleep affects testosterone level production and your circadian cycle has less impact than actual sleep times. When I suspect a man may have low testosterone, I refer him to his primary care doctor for testing and possible treatment. So I don't know if adjustments have to be made for a shift worker. If you were to get tested, bring this up with your doc so he/she can see if you should get your level at a different time.

I do know pretty much what the doctor was talking about. I was looking for a video to hear about antidepressants and testosterone levels.. For example, escitalopram shuts down your test levels and with it your libido, sex drive etc in just 3 to 5 days. Going of the drug it takes a month to come back a bit back...with a help from zink intake, test boosters etc... either way is not helping...you are calm, have some serotonin level up, able to function ...but on the other hand low testosterone reverses this ...I guess it depends how you choose it, how badly these hormones are affecting someone... TRT is also not a solution...you can be on ot for a while....or your whole life. So, get shredded. The obesity is the worst healt issue. Try some balanced diet and bnalanced physical activity. I can assure (the male population for test levels at least) and the rest that you will be physically strong as a bull, mentally a shaolin monk...

@@DrTraceyMarks Not true. I supplement with T in perimenopause; it helps with mood, energy, libido and mental clarity. Drs are cautious tho, so only get a low dose, so still not like in my 30s..

Yes low testosterone is a bitch and many man are diagnosed with depression or anxiety disorders. Chronic masturbation can be one of the causes why so many young man have this problem although many doctors say that masturbation doesn't decrease testosterone it indeed decreases it in two important indirect ways: 1) chronic masturbation causes high prolactin which decreases testosterone and 2) too much sperm and semen production can cause a zinc deficiency

I'm only 23 but iv had social anxiety since I was 16 . recently I started getting depression and I knew something was seriously wrong. my body was screaming at me. I went to my doctor and demamded to get my testosterone treated. they were hesitant but they did it. doctor got the results and said they were normal so I asked for a copy. stupid idiot thought 310 was normal for 23 years old testosterone. he wouldn't give me any testosterone supplements so I self mediated. I started taking the 100ml of testosterone every week and it's been nothing short of a miracle. but it made me so mad that something so simple can cause me so much pain and ruin my life for years. Needless to say I went back Into that doctor and actually have him a really bad giving to and sacked him and changed doctor straight away. not I'm in the middle of working things out with a new u understanding doctor. I think I actually know more than the new doctor but at least she u understands. no we are working on doing it the legal and proper way

Hi Dara. What an experience. Well at least the self-medication answered some questions in a real way about the benefit of testosterone supplementation for you. But yes it can have the side effect of making you angry. here in the US there are different forms of testosterone and doctors will try different ones like the gel versus injections etc. to get the best results with the least side effects. I hope it works out with this new doctor.

I think there are better sources about boosting testosterone. You need fats and protein in your diet. Resistance training will boost it.
As for timing, Ian Dury wrote a song about it:"Wake up, make love to me"
