    Rick does the only celebrity interviews which feel like professionals speaking and showing respect for their craft and each other, rather than being a virtual gossip column. I can watch interviews of musicians I don't care about (that's not the case here) and get just as much as I do out of one with my favorite musician, because it's not about that.
    This is Inside the Musicians Studio.

    Billy and Jimmy were as metal and as psychedelic as it got for their era. It was SuperRock. Geek USA sounds like a rocket taking off.

      Tool was moreso. Though maybe not so much at that point, honestly. Yeah, you're probably right.

      Just blaring it through my buds about 5 minutes ago. My right foot going full bore to JC’s drumming and as I look up my wife’s glaring at me and speaking, but I do not hear her voice, I’m getting on her last ADD nerve. 😂

    Pumkins music is shot through with lots of nostalgia, which can be depressing to some people, I suppose. But listening to sad music can often make you feel happier sometimes.

    I don't get to see a lot of interviews such as this. Billy C is a musical genius as far as I'm concerned. Listening to his experience and his analogies along with his interpretation of his music absolutely floors me.

    This is exactly how I feel about a lot of my favourite music. Other people may write it off as "depressing" whereas to my ears it just has a lot more depth and a wider range of emotion to it. Depressing music to me is like Ed Sheeran or Coldplay where I feel nothing listening to it, like I'm watching the most predictable uninteresting movie...

    For one moment, I thought you were going to ask why billy why he smashes pumkins. Then I recalled the band and had a mandatory laugh. Cheers Rick.

    Rick, the question never asked Billy is, “How did the great songs dry up? Why did the quality go so far from where it was 92-95?” Nobody asks him because he’s too big a star. So he doesn’t get that quality control and fans have either deserted him or snored through the last twenty years of his music.

      I have been thinking about this a lot lately and i would love to debate people about this why did billy did that how can SP become so bad, he was one of the best for sure his 4 albums were insanely good back to back and then... i never seen anything like it no artist ever did that i think its like he became a completely new person and his music taste changed or something

  • @rubicon-oh9km

    Music is so incredibly subjective. Listen to anything from an artist like Brian Eno and you’ll get 50 different impressions of what a particular song means to someone.

    • @SPINNINGMYWHEELS777
      @SPINNINGMYWHEELS777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it is on one level but the sonic frequency one uses to conduct the end result is NOT subjective. It is like the color spectrum.. it literally causes emotional reactions objectively.

  • @trucuriousity
    @trucuriousity ปีที่แล้ว

    Pumpkins are not depressing. More angry I'd say ... the violence piece. Tool is much darker. I cannot listen to that band without feeling like I'm dragged into a dark abyss.
