Every year I get something extra Christmas decoration wise I think this year I’m going to go with this product. I’ve tried the curtain lights, which are amazing. I’m kind of excited however I have to go through the boss the wife first.
For the PRO, can I connect a 200ft and a 150ft kit? Will they need separate power outlets? For the GEN 2 same questions Are they connected as groups via the app, or connected as a new longer kit?
When they make them RGBW IC with much higher light density and make them “neon” style (ie smooth light effect along the strip with no need for diffuser) I’ll buy them for every eave of my home. I’ll pay double if they add UV to the strips! (There are paints invisible under normal light that light up under UV. Imagine the Halloween possibilities!)
Thank you for the side by side comparison! I've held off buying any exterior lights for my home due to confusion on which version to purchase. Are you able to access the different themes via Matter or just basic colors?
I installed the original version last year and love them! I just got an email from govee announcing a sale on the "2" version and ran to youtube to see what the upgrades were and your video was the first I saw. Great job!
What a great comparison, thanks very much. I'd love to go the pro route, however locally only the "gen 2" are available in black, and considering the terrace is black, and the permanent lights pro are not available in Europe in black, the gen 2. is the only way to go.
@handydadtv I have recently purchased these and have hte 150' string. I have a cape cod 2 story style of home. I am wondering about power considerations and the best way to route the lights to get the most out of them.
Great video! Would you recommend the Govee lights vs the Bright home light pucks you reviewed previously? Wondering how the two compare in overall look and you opinion on it!
You said two 150ft ones can be connected together. Are you referring to grouping via app or can they be physically connected and also same time adding two controllers/power adaptors?
Thank you for your video. I do have a question. Can you set the lights not to blink or change color but have all the bulbs be in Christmas colors like regular Christmas lights? So red green yellow blue ... ect.
Good video showing the color and brightness to me very little different. but sounds like most commits are going with Govee , I'm have Eufy E22 and recommend them easy to permanently mount and if you have Eufy security cameras you can link them to the cameras and them come on to the color of your choice when motion is detected on more thing the price on Eufy showed on this video is usually discontinued by 40% - 50 foot $119 and 100 foot $199
One option, and it may vary on your house, but you can install the lights on the inner side of the fascia rather than on the soffit facing down. This way, it remains out of sight.
Question on Winter Climates. I live in a northern climate. The temp says to -4, but it can get to -20 or more here. Are the Pro's better in terms of longevity against the cold elements or are they about the same Gen 2 vs. the Pros? Curious if you know the answer on that. Thanks!
Not yet. There is a new beta version of WLED that works with the Pros. I’m pretty sure Gen 2 uses the same chip. Not sure how long it will take for that version to be released. Maybe by Christmas.
When linking the units separately to achieve 300 feet, does the power source matter if you are trying to sync them? I would love them to look seamless. I may have to fun off of the same power source, but run each line in a different direction.
The effect is good, but there are better results, we are producing this type of products, the effect and quality are very good, I hope to communicate with you
What about shorter lengths? Say 40’span? Can I cut them down in size? How about if I buy a 100’ can I use two 50’ lengths in separate rooflines? An inquiring mind wants to know.
Officially, only the Pros support cutting. But any can be cut as long as the last string isn’t too short to be detected. They all include extensions cords to bridge from one floor to another.
Question-I just installed a 100ft and 50ft kit on my two-story home, which took about 6 hours because I bracketed every single light 😵💫 (figured I might as well do it right the first time) looks incredible. My question is, how do you link them to turn on simultaneously? Do you mind making a step by step video on that? I tried grouping them on the home page, but the upper level just stays stuck in the 'connecting to Bluetooth' stage, so I’m having to manually set each kit individually.
When you create a Group from the Home screen in the app, it lets you create a group with Same Model Group Control. I don’t have two of the same so I can’t show you. Then you can create an Automation to turn the group on and off.
Im worried about the mounting large squares for gen 2, because i have an inch of board to put it on around my work shop that looks like a casita outside in my back yard. Otherwise i love the bright gen 2, to mess with my neighbor and bc i love bright lights!
I’m a a novice with Zero experience, I purchased 2 sets of 100 foot lights, just says ELITE not pro. Can I connect the 2 sets? I don’t understand what the extension cord is for.
I actually bought the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Elite from Costco. I found out by researching, they are the same as the "2" Version. Do you know if you can Cut them at the end of a long strand if you have 2 or 3 extra lights? I cannot find any info on this, thanks
I just put up my Pros over the weekend and now learning there's a new model? I hope a Pro 2 doesn't come out for at least two years or I'll have buyers remorse 😂
@@handydadtv thank you for the quick response, I appreciate it. Not too worried about the warranty as long as I can do it someone recommended using the solder connectors and I’m guessing 18 gauge wire to extend the lights. Also recommended that you leave at least one light on the cut side extended out and continue the strand that was cut to continue the sequence.
The spacing of the Pros are nice, but can you just turn off every other bulb in the Gen 2 on occasion? Wouldn't that give nice spacing too? Im really leaning on the Gen 2 over the Pro version. Thanks for the great video!
Only the white setting under illumination is 40 lumens. All other modes are still the same as the original, 25 lumens. The pros in every other mode except white illumination is also dimmer than gen 1.

@@handydadtv That was actually pretty useful. Someone in my neighborhood has I the originals. I think maybe they're not installed too close to the house. I'll give it another look on my next dog walk. Thanks for the reply and all your videos, I know its hard work.
@dorknerd Not sure if you saw this one made last year: th-cam.com/video/4S5zFCDrHAI/w-d-xo.html. I installed Govee’s temporarily at the edge of my soffit instead of close to the house. The wire is less visible if it’s close to an existing line in the architecture. It definitely produces a different look when it’s farther away from the house.
If you’re a Costco member, look for the Govee Elite edition. They’re identical to Gen 2 for a better price. Otherwise, there are tons of cheaper copycat brands on Amazon.

They are exactly the same.

Only at the beginning.

Separate kits grouped in the app.
