"Er"-Main Solo from Buckethead's Pike 65, "Hold Me Forever"

- Cover of the sixth track from Buckethead's 65th Pike album, "Hold me Forever." Recorded in 3 takes for two reasons:
1) When filming continuously for longer takes, audio and video start to desynchronize (which you can already see happening.)
2) It would be too hard
To learn this solo, I pitch-shifted the original down a half-step because my guitar only has 22 frets. I assume that Buckethead recorded it a half-step down on a 24 fret guitar, which means he would have played it in the first position of C# minor. To preserve the original key, I played it in B minor but pitch-shifted the recording up to C minor like on Pike 65. Because I learned this solo by ear, I didn't write tabs.

To play this at the level you did, the precision and technique, capturing the essence of Bucket's own feeling for the music... And to do it for half of the fuck in Pike. There's no words left besides 'Wow.' 💫

Listening to Buckethead made me pick up my guitar again after 3 years of depression. The kooky chicken robot literally saved me and my music. His slower, more ambiental work got me going again and in the meantime I have learned to love his crazy shredding as well. And Pike 65 is IMO the best of the best. It has it all. If I lived in a house I'd build a separate room where Pike 65 would play on constnant loop. Or a chicken coop?

How long have you been playing guitar and learning music. The fact that you can play this piece perfectly is amazing. Add to the fact that you learned the whole thing by ear is nothing short of masterful. I can't imagine doing all this given a life time. I'm genuinely in awe at skill.
If you could at some point in the future I would really like to see you tackle "Leave The Light On" since there isn't any good covers of that song and it's my favourite Buckethead song. Keep up the good work mate.

And to that point, there aren't even videos of anyone else playing this (specifically, Buckethead himself, who I'm starting to think IS Wil at this point, since no other covers on TH-cam come close), so there are literally zero points of visual reference aside from sound. It's truly incredible he was able to learn all of this by ear, then play it flawlessly like this.
