Thanks a lot for this presentation Andrew! I know both cameras, and used to be a Nikon shooter, but now I will give up the Nikon for the Canon. Why? It feels better in my hands, the operation logic ist more intuitive to my , I prefer the scrollwheel at the back, I also can move the focus frame much faster around with the joystick (what is a pain with the Nikon), the autofocus is much better (recognition of human eyes and animals), as is the IS (very important in law light!), and last but not least I prefer the lens selection in the Canon camp, especially the lightweight telezooms. Therefore I would recommend the Canon also for photographers, not only for hybrid shooters. Kind regards from Switzerland.
I think the main similarity of these cameras is the number 6 and the mark II. The Z6II costs around £1500 and the R6II about £2200. £700 difference is a very different tier from one another.
Lenses wise, I think both brands are pretty equal. Nikon Z does have their 50mm f/1.2 S and 85mm F/1.2 S. There is an upcoming 35mm f/1.2 in the mix too! As a Nikon shooter myself, if you are thinking about getting into the system, I would wait for the next gen bodies or get the Z8/8 now. Hey Andrew! Great review, with a lot of very valid points! Thanks! When I was a Canon shooter, I really liked the scrollwheel on the back instead of a dial pad. I'm a Sony and Fujifilm user currently switching over to Nikon. I've had Canons before, never Nikon. It strikes me how Z6 or Z6II does not get all the praise it seems to deserve. Specs are pretty much the same as the competiotion, image quality is arguably superior, but the price difference on body and lenses is what really decides it for me. As an amature photographer sometimes making videos Nikon seems like a pretty obvious choice. I understand a professionals point of view, but for me a fully articulating screen is not worth 700 dollars. 700 dollars gets me another lens. Maybe it's my bad, looking at all these youtubers reviewing gear like everyone has to make money of their photoshoots. I just can't help to think the Nikon side looks way beyond all competion for me as an enthusiast.
Because the z6 is not really a good hybrid camera. Has like 1 codec for video, stabilization is not good, focusing is iffy. I’m switching to the LUMIX s2x. Takes both great photos and video. Great stabilization and tons of different video options for $2k. Lenses are lighter. 96 megapixel sensor shift shots for landscapes. Can stream to TH-cam directly from the camera. Superior phone app. Flip screen. Live LUTs. Nikon is so far behind right now on video. Photos, color, and lens choices are great, but video is a bit outdated. IMO.
Get the Nikon Z8 like I did if you can, the AF is on par with all the other brands thanks to it's new cpu + fw (Nikon is killing it with fw updates lately). Anyone who proclaims the Z8/9/ZF isn't up to the level of Canon or Sony's latest offerings clearly haven't used the camera(s) Nikon has put out lately.
Interesting video. What you like about the rear LCD on the Nikon, I actually despise. I very much prefer the style of the Canon rear screen for one simple reason and that is that I can flip it around and "turn it off" by closing it facing in toward the camera body. I rarely set the rear LCD screen to show anything other than the info screen to begin with, and very much prefer to keep the screen turned in towards the body. If I need to change something that I don't have a dedicated button or dial for, I can just quickly flip it out, change whatever I need to, and flip it back in. I also prefer the Canon because it has that fourth dial. I usually set it so that the front dial is shutter, the top rear dial is ISO, the lens dial is aperture, and the rear back dial is White Balance in Kelvin. This way, I can look through the viewfinder (which shows the picture profile I have set) with exposure simulation turned on and adjust the exposure, DOF, and white balance in real time all without ever needing to change any menu settings. Once you have that set up and experience shooting that way, it's incredibly difficult to go back to any other way of shooting, and while I do still largely shoot raw, it obviates much of the need to shoot raw because outside special circumstances, you can adjust the image you're going to capture in real time before actually taking the picture. Also, most people that would make use of the high speed electronic shutter would likely be sports photogs where they are shooting with a long lens on a monopod or tripod up at at least 1/1000 shutter speed anyway. Huge left to right swerves are not something they're going to do a lot of.
So, as R6 II user who previously had D750, I am waiting to see when Z6 III comes and what is the price, because I got better shadow recovery (colorful noise in R6 II, that is better controlled in D750) and the colors in nature had more volume/tonality. D750 screen was brighter than R6 II, which is strange and dissapointing, autofocus is great in R6 II, I haven't tried Nikon mirrorless. I also prefer tilting screens to flip out, also third party lenses for Nikon.. I only have 24-105 f4 EF lens, so it won't be that costly, even though I will loose some money, so now I am waiting to see what Z6 III will offer and then decide and whatever I choose I will buy some better lenses.
@@ST-fl5fy it will be good enough, algorithms and processors are fine now. Even if it's not the great, it won't be bad, for sure. I'm waiting to see what Z6 III brings and I would also be willing to get Sony A9, because it's great for photos and good priced 2nd hand for what it delivers. For sure my dream camera would be the Z8, because of the MP and stacked sensor. If you have Z8 what more can you possibly need, other than maybe more FPS in raw full quality, because the 120 is only in jpg.
Iv been trying to decide myself and I fee Nikon images are just better . I like the colors the sensors put out and low life performance is great . Their lenses also have a different mount which apparently makes the quality of image better , I can say it seems the images are very sharp and pop very well combined with the colors . For artistic purposes I’d go with Nikon , although nowadays it seems everyone’s caught up with specs and not the enjoyment of beautiful images as much . Sonys have great specs but their colors can be gross , the a iv makes everyone look like they have jaundice , but specs are good so people buy it , but the colors are eh. I find Nikon have very engaging imagery , canon is in offensive and sometimes safe looking to me . Some people say you can make me look the same but they really can’t , there is alway a difference and to me those differences are important. Why would I put effort into editing photos and colors, white balance when shooting etc then to ignore the color coming out of the sensor and it’s limitations
I shoot also on z6 and I have done multiple events at night. I focus just fine granted the limitations of the AF. I know when to switch between between autofocus and single point and when to zoom in to capture the eye and zoom out. There is way every time. I can't wait to see what the Z6iii will offer though. That will be my upgrade as long as it not above 3k.
I think Canon have better lineup overall. For me in the entry level the R8 is unbeatable. Or the R10 APSC. In the used market the original eos R is dirt cheap and the only con is the lack of IBIS for the Canon entry level. Nikon advantage could be IBIS (an used Z5 / Z6 is very cheap) but the Nikon IBIS isn't the greatest one. Nikon haven't cameras to compete in entry level. Even if i like Nikon colors more, you can calibrate that in your Canon.
Hi. Good day. May I know which do you recommend between fujifilm xt20 and xt200 for beginner. Torn between those two. For hobby only and want a versatile photography
They both seem very bulky compared to other mirrorless cameras. I don't see the advantage of these mirrorless cameras compared to regular DSLR cameras?
As a 20-year user of Nikon digital cameras, I can honestly say that the most recent Canon DSLR and mirrorless cameras have much better, faster, more accurate, more reliable AF for both stills and, especially, video. Canon USA provides excellent customer service support. Nikon USA customer service support is NOT good.
This is a toss up for me like them both and the image quality is fantastic on both. Not that I'm a gear snob but having had canon cameras for years I would say how much I love Canon colors but honestly if you don't tag them I would not be able to tell them apart. For me it has come down to a choice between these two cameras, it is hard to justify the extra $500 for the Canon but I love the flip out display mostly because I like to turn it around to protect the screen.. The Canon is more than I want to pay but I can sell off my DSLR gear to offset the price.. Who knows I may end up with the Nikon., I go back and forth on this 😂
Along Fuji I wanted a full frame partly for birding and got Sony a7iv. I would probably have preferred Canon or Nikon as they seem to be better to hold on to and I prefer the colors vs Sony. But Nikon is not as good in AF and also lenses were not available. Sony 200-600 is such a great value performer. Canon had availability issues and that is another thing that Sony does well.
Thing I like about Nikon is they have more “affordable “ tele lenses. Canon really only has the 100-500, then the prices get astronomical! I’ve considered switching to Nikon from canon. I’m not highly invested yet, so I wouldn’t lose much money. I also have a Fuji xt5 and would love to try their 150-600, but worried about how slow it is with its aperture
Another important difference in video is that the Canon r6 II has no more recording limits and Nikon still has the 30 min limit which is really annoying !
4:58 but you are wrong - Nikon lenses have customizable rings (dials) as well, plus the ISO is used with a dial as well, by holding down the ISO button. I just can't finish watching this misleading video. You don't know what you are talking about....
Nikon pictures seem way better in color balance and the menu language is more easy to understand. The symbols make more sense and the menu is better organized to make sense as well.

Which one is better for astrophotography?
Good to see you explaining cameras again, I think I missed your videos in my YT flow since you swapped the name of your channel.
The photo of the restaurant with hamburger was switch in close up you can see it in the shadows
Great video. Thanks sir!
The Z 85 1.2 and 50 1.2 do exist. Nikon lenses also have the customizable lens wheel. Good review overall.
Thanks
also on the zomm lenses liek the 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200f 2.8
I have the z6 and it is imposible to focus in dark areas or things in movement
I shoot also on z6 and I have done multiple events at night. I focus just fine granted the limitations of the AF. I know when to switch between between autofocus and single point and when to zoom in to capture the eye and zoom out. There is way every time. I can't wait to see what the Z6iii will offer though. That will be my upgrade as long as it not above 3k.
I’ve had the same experience. Also birds sitting in bushes where there sticks and foliage nearby. This is the only camera I’ve had that issue with.
Facts 💯
Are there more lenses for Canon than Nikon?
Do you still have the raw files download available? Would like to compare them both on LR.
Do canon lenses have an aperture ring or a ring that can be assigned as aperture?
Canon has unlimited recording time, right?
Yessir
Would love same review with the Nikon z6iii
Hi. Good day. May I know which do you recommend between fujifilm xt20 and xt200 for beginner. Torn between those two. For hobby only and want a versatile photography
Erm, you do realise that Nikon have 50mm f/1.2 & 85mm f/1.2 Z primes right?
Thanks. I didn't.
and 35mm f1.2 coming out this year.
DXOMark just reviewed z85mm 1.2 and it is ranked 1st.
R6ii thks
Nice comparison 👏
They both seem very bulky compared to other mirrorless cameras. I don't see the advantage of these mirrorless cameras compared to regular DSLR cameras?
you messed up the namings in some pictures
Nikon lens also have customized ring and 2 buttons.
where is the raw files link?
V good video, plz advice me best photo camera for wedding videography under 1500$ ,plz reply.
?
As a 20-year user of Nikon digital cameras, I can honestly say that the most recent Canon DSLR and mirrorless cameras have much better, faster, more accurate, more reliable AF for both stills and, especially, video.
Canon USA provides excellent customer service support.
Nikon USA customer service support is NOT good.
Exactly. Nikon sees customers as an annoyance
Who knows I may end up with the Nikon., I go back and forth on this 😂
Nikon has the Z 58mm f0.95 Noct ultrafast portrait lens and a Z 50mm f1.2 as well
Perfect.
Nikon has the Z 180-600 now
Nikon dont have a 70-200 f4 Version.
Prime with 1.2 is nice, but most people dont need that, to heavy, to expensive.
Nikon z6ii has so many features & very strong processor. Canon appears overly warm & saturated colours
both has great ecosystem. way back into film cam eco. nikon much simpler mount selection. canon has more mounts
Canon is made in Japan…
Yup
Apple iPhone is made in Vietnam.😆
@@mlai2546 no..made in china by Foxxcon
Do you think this Canon statement is about quality? Premium products like the Apple MacBook Pro are manufactured in China.
@@jorgepinogarciadelasbayonas imagine apple is made in japan…
The Z6II without a doubt, the best Nikon out there in my opinion.
Canon R8 is a beast 💯
Canon.
Canon AF is far superior than Nikon Z6 II. Even slightly better than Z6 III, but not by that much.
Cant ignore that Canon looks cheap and plastic.
Nikon pictures seem way better in color balance and the menu language is more easy to understand. The symbols make more sense and the menu is better organized to make sense as well.
