Some of the Petrolicious videos I see, it appears to me that they lack soul. It's like "the best investment that my money can buy" and blab some emotional statements about the car the owner possess. When I see this video, what comes to my mind is how adorable this is. How affectionately the owner talks about his Jeep Commando. Had this vehicle been available in India, I'd have owned one. His description made me feel that. Love this video. Thanks Petrolicious for bringing it to petrolheads...
Agreed. I cringe sometimes at Petrolicious vids of hipsters with their latest tools for Instagram fame, or just a veeery longwinded humblebrag about how well their business is doing. This guy seemed much more honest and genuine!
The Commando is really the first glint of the coming luxury SUV. Jeep had seen competition from the International Scout and Ford Bronco, which were essentially "up to date" Jeeps - and saw they needed to respond by being one step ahead, not just modern, but stylish and comfortable. So the Commando got softer springs, a longer wheelbase, "modern" styling, and more power. No, it wasn't a Range Rover, but reviewers in 1967 picked up on what Jeep was doing, the commando wasn't a modernized replacement for the CJ5, it was an up-market model sold on being fashionable and more user friendly.
I met Alex 3-4 years ago at a design conference and recently ran into him again at my work, he invited me to sit in on his Viscomm 7 class to see what I’ll be getting into once I start design school full time. We then spoke for a while about jeeps and such and he does love that commando! Super cool guy!
Don’t know if Petrolicious people may be interested, but I must say I was getting a bit bored of wealthy-guy-and-his-shiny-supercar kind of videos. At last a real motor guy story. Thanks
Paul Alan Putnam This! Yes, I find the stories of guys with just one car much more interesting. They tend to be attainable cars. Seeing a video of a car that costs double what my house costs just doesn’t do it for me. Great for those guys that can afford them but the million dollar car stories leave the average car guy behind. Give me a story of a guy with a $5,000 Alfa spider or old Land Cruiser any day.
Yes, I know what you mean, who will take care of my Jeepster Hurst when I’m gone!? I always had high power muscle and race cars in my live, but the Jeepster has a special place in my heart. This is the second Jeepster Commando video on this channel, and I love it! Great video.
What I really enjoyed was the combination of two unique and stylish vehicles. One separate from the other does not have the same soul that together they present.
I find such inspiration each time I see a Jeepster commando. I had a 67 but I never made the project reach the road. I passed it on and hopefully it will live on.
These videos make us really proud, Ducati with Tricolore on the tank is outstanding. And then, nice really nice, the commando. Not imagine the luck you have to be able to customize as you like, your cars and motorcycles. A greeting from Rome!!!
I have a 1967 Jeepster and a 2013 Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak... Not claiming that I'm a builder. But just to say that a Jeepster and a Ducati make a great combo in my opinion. :-)
Quick facts Randsburg is a census-designated place in Kern County, California, United States. Randsburg is located 17 miles south of Ridgecrest, at an elevation of 3,504 feet. The population was 69 at the 2010 census, down from 77 at the 2000 census.Wikipedia
I used to drive a 1967 Jeep Super Wagoneer about a decade ago. I recognize some crossover both in parts and ownership experience. That era of Jeep is robust, capable, and focussed on essentials.
Love the video, even this being the odd couple. Some people think alike! I own a 1971 Jeepster Commando Hurst and a 1982 FLH Harley Davidson, both in white. (last AMC Commando with the Jeep face, first Harley after AMF). Now I’m on the hunt for a small, old bike trailer to pair the two together. This is the second Petrolicious video of a Jeepster Commando. Only when you driven a Commando you understand how these two owners feel about their old soul trucks, that have been overlooked and neglected for so many decades.
This is spooky, I have that exact same Hot Wheels model in the packaging sitting on my desk, I never thought i'd see a Petrolicious episode on this specific pairing, I love it!
Great video and story as always. Then we hit a snag when he said (automatic) and I could not stop laughing through the end of the video. I still believe that some vehicles should never be offered with an automatic. And yes, dual clutch automatics in supercars are OK because I would never own something so ugly.
I too own an American car and an Italian, er...motorcycle of sorts. My DD is a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis that's been kept in grandma-driven excellent condition and only has 123k miles on it. My most ridden vehicle however, is the 2018 Piaggio Fly 150 I bought brand new earlier this year. It is an odd pairing to be sure, but I think they balance each other out nicely :D Great video, love both machines. As always, Petrolicious making quality moto-video content.
The term caretaker is new age as is the statement " the gentleman who was taking care of it at the time". Traditionally we use the word "own". But do we ever really own anything? Perhaps our own bodies.
I wouldnt go that far... I have a coffee cup on my desk worth $1, nothing special just a regular mass produced IKEA cup, I have a dozen in my cabinet , I bought it, I would say I own it. I would say you are a caretaker of something with significant value to you and others, either emotional or monetary. But everything? No. Then again that is just my thinking.
I have a whole house worth of shit I own. Possessions are a real thing, and it's totally okay to say you own something. I'm sure he'd have no problem saying business owner, or home owner when a business isn't even a tangible thing. Most "home owners" have a mortgage and the bank holds the title ransom. Relax.
With older classic cars and motorbikes like these, they will outlive their owners, sometimes many lifetimes. It's not about saying this is my vehicle and no one elses. When you have a vehicle like this and really love it, you want to leave it in a better state than when you got it. The owners will all be forgotten in time, but the vehicle will stand as testament to their careful work.
Good to watch bikes bodywork is first class nice useful purposeful motorbike and not just a garage piece suits his uses not an unobtainable car for the normal guy 😍😁🍀🍀
Would love to see a Cressida feature or other rare JDM classics like the Nissan Gloria, etc. it might be hard to find them, but it would diversify the cast and give us something new and obsecure
If he's still looking for someone to take care of it he can donate it to me lol. I'm serving in the marines and just recently got a 2020 jeep gladiator sport but if I had this I'd more in love with it than my current vehicle haha, looks badass to me, I'd take care of that baby with my life and the ducati too is awesome
you won't have to worry about a caretaker for the Duc - that open/dry clutch won't last long off roading. also, the off road wheels on the kendon trailer probably don't make it easy to load un-load the bike - it's like a seesaw. all this just to make up for the large tires on the jeep. maybe not really thought through - but they are good looking machines - both of them.
There is an absurdity of aesthetics to all of it. Yes they both LOOK good but.....Any modern pickup would out off road , out highway, out grocery get the jeep, as well as ditch the trailer, and keep the bike(s) with you. Who abandons their bike on the side of the road and go "adventuring" with the jeep. The open clutch, please......
@@thirdvisiongarage9148 No actually I owned a 72 commando, loved it dearly but it was really just a disappointing vehicle..ps I also despise Icon Broncos.
I've owned two Ducatis, a 748 (dry clutch) and a Sport 1000 (wet clutch). Both amazing machines that fit every ethos of Petrolicious. While I prefer the wet clutch, the dry clutch has charming character, works perfectly fine, and is super easy to service the plates if you ever needed. It'll work fine off-road if you just put the factory clutch cover on.
cool looking vehicles, but how does it make sense to have an open clutch cover on an off road bike? isnt that inviting catastrophic damage to the clutch? sand and rocks could easily get in there and give you a bad day.
Gotta say...I've definitely seen better Petrolicious videos. This feels thrown together. Video's not terrible, but for Petrolicious this definitely isn't up-to-par. What's with the audio of Alex? And the footage feels almost amateur-like compared to other Petrolicious videos. Thankfully the actual subjects are fantastic.
Sometimes they use cameras with framerates that are too high. So you get that amateur look. I personally can't stand it and wish they'd just use cinema framerate all the time.
that’s like basically my story did petrolicious run out of shit to say i mean ig i didn’t think of it being a dope story but my chevy & benz are like how does forest gump say it
That's set up perfectly. I love the half cab, wheels, roof rack, dauntless v6, etc. I wouldn't change a thing!
I love old vans,jeeps.

Damn that dry cluch sound from the Ducati tho.
Gotta love it. 🏁
I love how you guys stopped the music for the Ducati dry clutch music, as a Monster owner with a dry clutch that was a proud moment.

Great video. Must be something about mid 90s Ducatis and old American trucks. I haul around a 95 Ducati Elefant 900 in the back of my 51 Ford pickup.

Watching this and then the hotwheels pops up. Then I look up and see I have that exact hotwheels. That put a warm and fuzzy in me.
