The beauty of Petrolicious for me, is that it makes me watch and enjoy videos of cars, I wouldn't normally be that interested in. I've always been pretty open minded when it comes to cars, but I get a whole new appreciation of car culture as a whole watching these stories.

Absolutely. Me too. I like all sorts of vehicles. Love classic cars and motorcycles of all types and really like this channel for the variety of classic sports cars. However I understand the sentimental value in anything motorized that may have been a family fixture for decades and for many rural folks that's gonna turn out to be a 4WD truck or Jeep like rig.

I had a '71 Jeepster when I was 17 (in the '80's). Drove it for 20 days on temp plates then parked it. Junked it in my 20's. Wish I still had it - had the Dauntless V6. I had a lot of fun in that thing. It was rust free and ran good, but had tranny problems, and only 3 wheels had brakes. Wish I had kept all of the cars I junked in my 20's! The '69 and '71 camaros are worth a small fortune now.

I have a 1969 Jeep CJ5 with the Buick v6, great motor, tons of torque.

  • @gkixe4y
    @gkixe4y 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The engine sounds different from most V6 engines because it is an "Odd Fire" design. It is a Buick engine that Kaiser Jeep bought from GM. More info can be found with a simple web search.
I can really identify with this video as I have a 1971 Jeepster Commando. It was my first automobile at age 16. It needs a complete ground-up rebuild. This video gave me inspiration!

Found my 1968 Jeepster Commando sitting on the Mesa.. . $500 ! Two year, slow rebuild, and learning as I go, I'm very proud today how amazing this little Jeep performs on the trails, and how cheap and easy it was was to lift, and build out really tough. Surprised to see these small Jeeps going for $8,000 or more.... You don't need to pay a fraction of that cost to be driving like this guy! Awesome ride. Look up Jeep Tours, Taos NM

I've daily driven my 79 Ramcharger for a while, 2 years at one point. But now it's our 3rd vehicle. Got 13mpg from San Diego to Moab and back with a mildly modified, carbed 360 magnum, NV4500 OD and 4.56/33". Needs a repaint and some dings fixed after 9 years of hard use. Redoing the wiring, building a cage and putting a soft top on it this summer.

Awesome video! I have been looking for a Jeepster Commando for a while. Have owned a lots of classic American cars over the years, I wanted a post war classic Jeep like the Commando. After watching this very professional made video many times, I finally just found a 71 Commando Hurst, that is, short of the interior, completely rebuild! It will be in great company next to my other vintage car.

I actually have one of these!!!! it has a 1975 chevy v8 swapped in by previous owner, and i wish he had left the 225 dauntless v6 in there! my truck is still a project, but this video will push me to get it done!
another video by petrolicious like one of my old cars was the honda crx si. i had one of those, but it was rusted out :(
    cant wait to see more!

Based on one of your videos you're from Wisconsin, the guy is in Minnesota. Good luck with the rebuild regardless, it's a really nice car and a neat piece of history, worth putting effort in to.

In Addition there is the spanish commando, manufracturated by VIASA and EBRO there are a few much around spain, most of them with Barreiros and Perkins Diesel Engines with a top power of 80 horse power. They are equal than the US commando, just change the engines, and they sound quite racing with straight pipe :D

Cool video. Brings back a lot of memories. Had a '69 C101 in high school, late 80's. 3 speed with the Dauntless V6 and a half top. Buddies called me Marlin Perkins when I drove with the lid off. I don't recall ever seeing a Commando on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, but it was a awesome off road machine nevertheless.

Beautiful restoration, yup, keep that dauntless and gm tranny, fantastic combo.Only thing I would add is the tail lights need upgrading... line the light buckets with some aluminum foil to get that light shining out... upgrade to the latest super bright LED bulb, will really improve safety especially in the bright light in the high desert.
My very stock 67 is my daily driver. Not the greatest freeway vehicle but it will do 70-75 mph if it has to (hate having to run those high rpm's though),I just follow the semi's and cruise if I can.Longer wheelbase than CJ-5 makes for better top end feel at freeway speeds.
I live in socal mountains, the Jeepster is ideally geared for that area. And its no slouch on in town traffic,it keeps up just fine.Puts manual CJ-5's to shame for streetability.Faster, smoother, more competent street ride by far.
Yes,everybody loves the Jeepster,Im pretty sure Ive met all 60,000 previous owners, all with a story. Its the car version of old Harley's as a people magnet, and they are all nice people too .
A jeep wave to you all!

Now we need one with the OHC inline 6 they had in some of the later Willys and also built in Argentina I believe. They developed a reputation as leakers and engines that needed attention to make sure nothing was shaking loose due to their long stroke and some engine shake at idle but with care a rebuilt or one in good shape can last a long time It's known as the Tornado 6.

Driving an 'analogue' car with no ECU, ABS, ESP, TC, brake-/park-/lane-assist or power-steering is such an underrated pleasure and experience compared to the comfy 'gadget' cars of today.; they lack a mechanical soul...
PS: What's up with GoLDFiSH ?

+El Dawwg just a guess, but might be a reference to the goldfish orange color. You're right about analog cars- most people don't quite understand it.

Hah! To be fair, I wouldn't have thought of a goldfish if I didn't own one. The color is pretty close, aside from the goldfish being reflective.
