White was born in 1906. He survived through the great depression, convicted to a literal chain gang in prison, served in the Navy during WW2 and lived through the civil rights movement. I can't even imagine the things he's seen and experienced. For me, it really irks me to hear the pioneers of blues being attributed to Clapton or Stevie. This was blues and it could have only been born from these times.
I’m originally from Aberdeen Ms.. My Boy Scout Troop Leader Connie White was realated to Bukka White. And I let in 1981 at the age of 12. And just found out about Bukke tonight from older relatives from Aberdeen, Mississippi, based on a Facebook post. I’m so proud of his talent and sent it to my Vietnamese brother who asked me about Aberdeen Mississippi Blues, about 12 years ago. I FOUND IT BROTHER😢❤😊🤓
Seriously, he is a legend, and this sound awakens some visceral reaction in my gut that makes me happy that humans have music and more specifically the blues?
Old delta blues can be difficult to listen to, sometimes it's a bit raw and harsh. Sometimes people who haven't heard it yet think it's gonna be all smooth bottleneck stuff. It can be something you have to train your ears to appreciate, but when you do, it's very rewarding.
It's easy to listen to it......easy to feel the sound and that type of thing ..now understand all of it...whooo....thats not easy in one sitting ...they often were jivin...funnin....speaking slang......now each place has and had ( and it's always changing...) it's own slang as well as words that mean something other than what the literal word means..... esoteric is the fancy word that means "code word" for those in the know....for instance Robert Johnson sang ... Let's go to the end of California... My sweet home .. Chicago..... Well much discussion ha been made of this .. did mr Johnson look at a map.. how could anyone mes that up... A Midwest city on great lake and a state California on the Pacific Ocean.... Well when you learn that one of the great brothels in American history was located in Chicago the same time that song was recorded..called the California hotel or something like that ...it..starts to all add up ....now there are going. To be things said or sing in those tunes....no body cept god and the singer know the exact meaning of. And that's quite alright....neither the dead bluesman nor God....be giving interviews bout it. God bless you all everywhere all of the human race.. ( that's people not a contest)😮😮
Have actually told people i want *this* recording of Aberdeen Mississippi Blues played at my funeral. No exaggeration- Alive, tears get me every listen! Dead, this song’ll set my soul free i know it.
You know, he taught his cousin riley some things about blues.. Riley King, Blues Boy King, you all know him as Bb King... I found out these guys were related and i was like WHOA
stop spreading lies. BB said many times he only SAW him once or twice as a kid. i know you white people wanna make this some fucking wet dream fantasy of him showing little BB how to play but no. it didn’t happen stop with the bullshitz black people are coming back to take our music back from you posers who don’t know shit about shit smh 🤦🏾♂️ i’m sick of seeing comments like this
@@dariusjackson142 For sure. Lol I posted that comment 9 years ago. And even then I did say he taught him "some things." Which is true based on what BB has claimed. Definitely didn't teach him everything. Like you said, he only met him once or twice. BB learned to play and did all that work on his own. And I'm sorry I offended you.
Wow! That National singing ! I saw BB king on his birthday the night before the opening of his museum. He tore Tunica, Mississippi up that night. BB's horn section started the show and blasted a sound out of the dark and felt like a Mac Truck hitting you in the face with the air horns blasting!
Porto Antico it just don't get no better then this do it. It don't this is key to keeping me grounded, both feet on the ground this here music mister. I'm sure you agree
In 1968 or 1969 Bob West in Seattle Washington recorded Furry Lewis and Bukka White on a Sony reel to reel. It was in a kitchen. Bob pressed 500 copies or so and gave me one. Sure wish I still had it.
I love blues and bluegrass - I am a blues singer myself. Several songs I do are labelled "Hillbilly blues" and these very artists are Moon Mullican, Bill Monroe, Hank Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis, and of course Jimmie Rodgers, all of whom made country music into what it is today. All of whom were influenced by people like Bukka White, Blind Boy Fuller, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, or Leroy Carr. Country music without blues music? Rock 'n' roll, bluegrass, Western Swing. All from blues.
OMG, I was watching a Kenny Wayne Sheperd vid "Aberdeen" and someone suggested we check this man out for his version of Aberdeen. What a talented man he was; when its my time I want to visit Blues Heaven to see these legends of long ago jam!
i love how everything your hearing and seeing is telling part of his story. His great gruff weathered voice, what hes saying and playing, how he hes saying and playing it and why.you can tell obviously hes having a lot of fun too
Such a great man. He died a few weeks after this was filmed in his home. Knowing that, it's pretty sad watching po boy with the feeling he's putting in to it, and the fact it could be the last song he'll ever play. :(
Patton’s influence is so evident in performers like Bukka White (singing and playing) and Howlin Wolf (singing style). Not ripoffs, just natural influence.
geez a Hamburger.. How cool is that an at IHOP no less...! Goshdang it.. I gots to tell you'awl I really Wish I could hug an shake this Man's hand. My Life would be complete and I could just feel all Warm & Fuzzy inside again about life in general. I really wish I could Thank this BluesMan Bukka White for giving Us white(cough Caucasian) folks such Great music to listen too. Thanks You very much Mr. blues men. Blind Blake,Bukka,Charlie,R.L, Skip, Blind Lemon,Howling,Muddy,Leadbelly,Robert ah I meant Mr.Johnson, and All the rest I failed at this time to mention. Thank you.. And Don’t forget the biggest most oppressive era for he and my Grandparents and Parents era.. #JimCrow it created the “blues!”
When Bukka plays I can feel the sun and taste the dirt.
Little known fact that many don't realize, Bukka was actually BB King's cousin.
Here's the lyrics

The first time I heard it I was quite pleased and it calmed me. I have ADHD my brain is constantly going and this seemed to calm the thoughts.

Awesome! This is my 1st time knowing about Bukka…rest easy musical ancestor
This really hits all the blues pleasure zones...just amazing, a national treasure in his time and a legacy to cherish!
He lived and experienced the harsh reality of the blues. What a survivor to leave such a legacy.
Have actually told people i want *this* recording of Aberdeen Mississippi Blues played at my funeral. No exaggeration- Alive, tears get me every listen! Dead, this song’ll set my soul free i know it.
I think Aberdeen Mississippi Blues is my new favourite song.

You just don't find too many artist like this these days. Bukka was one of a kind!!
he preferred BOOKER T. Washington White .. when he was in Parchman (prison) the warden called him Bukka .. he hated it
The coolest thing I've ever seen!
Wow......absolutly great
Anybody has lyrics please? It seems to be different from what I can find in the internet.
Thanks
What an absolute legend! Coolest dude to ever walk the earth

He was actually a pretty nasty guy when I met him at Nassau Community College's Folk Festival in the 70s
@@CKANE1952 really?
I saw Bukka White at some coffee house in Toronto in the 70's. One of my memorable moments of my life.
you're a lucky man✌
In the hands of a master like Bukka White, the slide guitar is the most charming and expressive instrument in the world.
true king of the blues and the road , Bukka used to be a hobo during the depression my favorite song of his are his trains songs
What are the names of said songs if you don’t mind me asking
Oh man, 1970 all over again. Thanks !

I’m from Jamaica 🇯🇲 and I love the blues
Raw, sheer genius. The Greatest of the Mississippi Greats.
I love this style...his voice is powerful too.

This has to be posted and seen by all the blues lovers....
Soul satisfying nourishment. Body and Soul, it makes them both dance joyful freedom.
Love the Music of Bukka White 💙🎸💙🎸💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙🌟💙
When he plays that little "beep" note during the break in the second song - it gets me. Soft and subtle and really makes the song extra special.
I think he sounded better and better as he aged. Love his gruff voice on this clip.
What beautiful music & what an amazing player I always feel so good after watching this
Thank goodness someone found him.......
Boooker stirred up some blues when he said"look over yonder where we used to live"amen God bless the old folks

I understand that Booker, Bukka, White's mother and BB 's grandmother were sisters.

Fantastic !
un dernier pour ce soir et quel gratteur de guitare a vous faire ressentir le rythme par sa façon de jouer il a le rythme dans la peau cela s'écoute
If you listen closely to the 1st song you can hear some of Peter Greens inspiration for Show Biz Blues. True blues grows from the roots. Rock on.
yeah! slap that guitar bukka!
Booker T. Washington "Bukka" White was born November 12, 1906 in Aberdeen, Mississippi.
From near my hometown
Brilliant
love the blues
Without people like Bukka White there could be no rolling stones
LEXE71 don't blame bukka for that
And without the Rolling Stones we wouldn't even know who Bukka was! Stones gave back. Some bands didnt, Stones did.
John Rapp that’s what I said! I’d like to see the link. Like DIRECT link between Debussy and the blues.

Thanx for posting this.
Man I want that guitar...
AFAIK, the last time he played guitar for the camera.... it's here folks. Listen and learn, then live. What you don't hear is called lifes lessons.
Rock Forehead most don't know what to even listen for I hear hurt, pain, and even some fun I feel his blues more than my own
We've got one jealous guitar over here!
This guitar later ended in Mark Knopflers hands? On the cover of Brothers in Arms album...
Excellent
From Heaven Itself...
fantastic❣️😍
Bukka feels the blues, he doesn’t just play it!
Cool i found Arcola Records web site - thanks for the heads up - still kick myself for not holding on to the original vinyl.
Look over yonder, where we used to live 😅😅😅😮😮
