Brandon Uranowitz has been in 8 Broadway shows (replaced in 2, originated in 6, 4 of which garnered him Tony nominations, 2 plays and 2 musicals) That man can do ANYTHING and he deserves this award.
@@dantethepotato9263 I saw his win coming a mile away! I actually predicted all 8 acting categories correctly (even if I wouldn't have voted for a couple, personally) And my total correct was 22 out of 26, so im pretty proud of myself!
Imagine if Alex Newell AND J. Harrison Ghee win??? Imagine if TWO black gender queer actors win in their categories at the Tony Awards??? It would be astonishing! I'm rooting for them both!! I'm a HUGE fan of Christian Borle, and I really really enjoyed Josh Groban as Sweeney and Ben Platt is fabulous as always, but J. Harrison Ghee is simply show stopping. They absolutely deserve it. And I TOTALLY agree with New York New York winning Best Set. It's not the strongest show this season, but the set is absolutely STUNNING. And yes Kimberly Akimbo should absolutely win Best Musical it's such a special show I almost cried at work listening to the cast recording during my shift lmao.
Awesome video guys! I'm rooting for my boy Ben Platt and Parade as well for best revival. Oh I don't mind joining in and watching you guys watch the Tonys! Lets all enjoy the festivities of it!
I'm calling Betsy Wolfe right now. She was basically a leading actress in & Juliet and was delightful. She nearly stole the show right away from Juliet.
Big Betsy Wolfe fan - haven't seen her in this, but saw her do Last Five Years and the tryout of the musical 'Tales of the City' in SF and she bowled me over in both.
I would be very surprised if Shucked and Kimberly Akimbo do not win a single nomination. Even so, I would love to cross the US border to see at least most of the shows that are nominated this year. This season has been incredible.
@@MickeyJoTheatre Shucked should win for Best Musical. It’s a bit of a long shot, but so was Avenue Q against Wicked. Also really hoping for Parade as revival. Have you seen the play Fifth of July? It’s so good! I believe the PBS Great Performances taping is still on TH-cam.
Ha. Every time I see that sweatshirt I wonder "Why are you wearing a Six Flags/Great Adventure hoodie?" Duh. Thanks for the predictions, gentlemen. Am keeping my fingers crossed for Jodie Comer, but am afraid I feel the tide turning against her. Will be delighted to be mistaken about that.

Really enjoyed your NYC trip vlogs and your predictions! I think I am in the minority for not being blown away by Kimberly Akimbo. I enjoyed Shucked, Almost Famous and Camelot so much more.(Parade and New York, New York high on my list also) Leopoldstadt deserves every award it is nominated for..I have seen it twice....and Ben Platt brought me to tears in Parade(which is rare for me). Thank you both for your ongoing dedication and homework on all things theatre!
Hoping for Ben Platt. Besides his gorgeous voice, his character (as Aaron said !) is complex and demanding, He's riveting in it. Wish Micaela would win as well, but it doesn't look good for her. Arden for director and Parade for Revival definitely! Love Sondheim, but enough already. Let's have a show that actually means something. P.S. Love watching you two! I was in NY same time you were so it was fun to compare notes!!
I saw K-Pop and I'm astonished it was nominated for anything. I was really looking forward to a K-Pop-related show instead it was more soap opera. Kimberly Akimbo has a wonderfully complex family which goes a long way towards winning a book Tony. Shucked has a surprising book and is entirely new, so that gives it some gravitas. As to Feature Actor, I think Alex Newell will win, but it wouldn't surprise me if Kevin Del Aguila wins as he is well-liked in the theater community. Christmas Carol with Jefferson Mays was surprisingly good. It was one of the most engaging versions of Christmas Caro I've ever seen. So, I'm hoping it wins at least one award. Finally, I really hope Some Like It Hot wins big. It deserves to reach a much broader audience.
Kevin Del Aguila was great in Peter and the Starcatcher. I agree that he is well-liked in the theater community. I also heard Jefferson Mays was very good in A Christmas Carol - would have liked to have seen him in that. Enjoyed him in The Music Man and Christmas Carol looked pretty creative.
I’ve been best friend’s with Jessica Stone’s son for the past 10 years. I’ve talked to her extensively and she obviously has worked so hard on Kimberly Akimbo and the direction, once I saw it (actually off-Broadway) I could see how much work she put into it. She deserves the award so much. I’m rooting for her.
I would have loved Patina Miller get a nomination for the Witch from ‘Into The Woods’. She was phenomenal and it’s great to hear black voices portraying characters that are typically cast with white actors
I love these videos, especially the Broadway ones because I know so little about it 😂 a request for future ones, would it be possible to say the name of the category with the nominees? I tend to save your videos like this for my bad days when I'm stuck in bed and listen to them like a podcast but I get a bit lost when my heads bad and I can’t look at screens much and that would help massively if you could
I don't know if perhaps there was a technical issue on the night I saw New York, New York, but the sound was not good for my section of the theater. It was a big topic of conversation during intermission because everyone around me was having a hard time understanding the lyrics due to the orchestra completely drowning out the actors. When the Tony noms came out a couple of days later, I was so surprised on the sound design nom.
As someone who also believes into the woods is the greatest musical ever and got to see it while it was running, it was really really good but I do agree that a semi staged production with the orchestra on stage is not ideal for me and parade definitely deserves it. Would love some more big trees on stage.
I'm looking forward to your critique of The Tony Awards broadcast. Personally, I thought it was great, def. one of the best in recent memory. (Viewership ratings were up too.) Not having writers seemed to benefit the show.
Sean Hayes will prob. win Best Actor in a Play cause it's the only show that's still running in that category. However, I saw Top Dog/Underdog last year & was bowled over. It was a master class in great acting, among the best I've ever seen. So for "should win," Corey & Yahya should win in a tie. Direction of a Musical is tricky. Personally, I'd give it to Lear de Bessonet. Cause Into the Woods is revived VERY often; yet deBessonet's production looked very different than every previous one. She really put the focus on the score & performances by stripping down the production; and isn't that what you want to do in a Sondheim show? However, director is often tied to Best Musical, so Stone or Nickolaw have a better chance of winning. Leopoldstadt will likely win Best Play, cause it's still running & Tom Stoppard is much-beloved. And it is indeed a great play. But Jordan E. Cooper is my personal pick cause he's Broadway's youngest Black American playwright, so he's at the beginning of his career (whereas Stoppard is prob. at the end of his); he's also a dual threat cause he acted the hell out of his role; and Ain't No Mo' was a brilliant play, the type of which is rarely seen on Broadway. It was alternately funny & heart-breaking, often in the same scene. It was original, hilarious, controversial, challenging, smart & in-your-face. It's easy to affect people's emotions when writing about the holocaust (Leopoldstadt), but Ain't No Mo' brought up emotions & issues that make you face racism from points of view you never considered before. A genuine work of art from an original new voice. AND a laugh-riot.
I also think Ashford gave a great performance in Sweeney Todd. She followed in the footsteps of icons like Angela Lansbury & Patti LuPone & played Mrs Lovett w. a different take. BUT if you've seen her sitcom B Positive, she played Mrs Lovett in pretty much the exact same way as her TV character. It's something she's good at & done before. Victoria Clark was a revelation in Kimberly Akimbo. A 63 year-old playing a 15 yr old so convincingly that you don't even blink or think twice about her relationship with Seth. She deserves the Tony.
So how does this work? Are you counting the "who WILL win" predictions only? Or giving yourselves half point for the "who SHOULD win" guesses? Last year, you out-performed Brendan's crew of Wait in the Wings fame, in the 2022 Tony Awards predictions. Impressive, considering you hadn't seen the shows. It's rare for a production to be nominated and let alone win for director while the production was not even nominated for the overall production. Let's find out. This does happen often at the Oscars. The film is either very unique or, more often the film is a foreign language film. Nominators of the overall film might not have these films on their radar.
